so basically, eustace keeps up the good work until venkys decide he`s a nuisance for building a side that is threatening the top six, thats when he`ll move

Or he has an agent who knows he won't be able to do great things at rovers and will start making noise at clubs like Southampton

Agreed.

His working out is good..no losses so far..only us and Sheffield Utd unbeaten so far..and we have pears in goal (a historical liability)

Interesting one on Pears, pre Bristol there was an almighty clamour for Toth to start that game.

Not one person had Toth in their starting 11 for the Preston game.

Pears' record going back to the last few games of last season is not one of a keeper who should be dropped.

Good point

What's realistic as an expectation ?

Obviously we would (as fans) want us to win the league, unbeaten and smash scum home and away but let's be realistic.

We managed to avoid relegation last season and we missed out on play offs by a goal the season before

So this season.  A guarantee top 6 spot? Or mid table with a new squad establishing itself?

Definitely not bottom half of table..

What we absolutely must avoid is the type of catastrophic run of defeats in the second half of the season that have become a hallmark.

We will no doubt have a sticky spell, every team generally does.

If we are still in touch with the top six at the business end of the season, that will constitute a decent effort in my book, and will be a testimony to Eustace, his coaching team and the recruitment team, (and obviously the players).

Yep totally agree. We will lose some but top6-8 would be fine..  top 6 would be great. Anything is else above is a bonus considering

Given we've brought in over 40million in player sales over the last 10 months I'd say a realistic expectation is that we're challenging for promotion.

But what have we spent of that 40 million? It's no good bringing in that if you invest a tiny amount back

I'd say with that £40 million money should have been spent to build a promotion based squad.

With what money they where given they look to have done very well to build a competitive squad but it shouldn't be an expectation on Eustace to get us into the top 6 imo, apologies if iv picked you up wrong and that isn't what you are saying.

All the signings came in late and we did lose our best player and main goal threat and up to the Derby game  a lot on here including myself where majorly worried whether he had enough to stay in the division never mind challenging for promotion

I don't expect that Eustace will deliver that with what he's been given, but I expect the owners and the higher ups at the club to deliver that at the bare minimum.

"We don't want to lose Owen for any more matches. He's had a fantastic impact in the team, he will be a miss but we have Harry Pickering who can come in and do a very good job.

"You always learn from these situations, it's a big derby and a good experience for him. He's disappointed, he thinks he's let us down but he hasn't, it's fine.

"This is part of his development and learning. We have a fantastic group of players and nobody will ever intentionally get sent off and let the boys down.

"It's the heat of the moment stuff and the important thing is to learn from it."

The lesson Beck will learn is that if Pickering plays well from now on he’s going to be sat on the bench for a while. Just when he’d got the shirt. We all have to learn getting on the wrong side of the officials is counterproductive.

Its the very definition of clickbait.  Fabricated nonsense which I presume is funded by ad revenue (I use an adblocker so unsure if that is the case, but it makes sense)

Its time Rovers offer Eustace a new contract for me.

Too soon. I’m over the moon with how we have started, but I can also see there’s been a slice of fortune there.

There’s a few things I’d still like to see from a JE team - going to either Plymouth or a Coventry this week and being the better side for example. Whilst the three away games so far have been ‘gritty’, I don’t feel the performances have been amazing.

If things are still going well after Xmas I think he’ll deserve a belated present. I’m impressed so far.

Bit of an insane statement.

Are we going to give a manager a new contract after every decent 6 months?

We're off to a nice start, but the test of a Championship season is as the slog really starts. Plus, he probably won't benefit from playing against 10 men for half of every match on a consistent basis.

Great start to the season, but nearly every single one of our Championship season has contained at least one very good run of 10 results.

Yep. It's like saying Ryan Lowe should have been given a new contract at this point last season when they had a better record than we have now. Good job for Preston they didn't do that !

It's promising, but let's not get carried away.

Beck shouldn't have any concerns there 😂

Joking aside, Beck is on another level to Pickering.
