I think he's a very good interviewee.

He's been very open and honest when talking to the media (i.e. you don't come away from his interviews thinking you watched a different game to him).

He has a message and he sticks to it - and actually refers back to it (see him referencing the same message after 3 losses as after 6 wins - togetherness, working hard, need the whole squad etc etc).

He also doesn't hang his players out to dry publicly.

Agreed, his narrative is consistent and he’s not a bullshitter or a waffler.

He just doesn’t project himself very well, and there are a few too many “You knows”, but he seems to be working on that 🙂

I've said this quite recently already, but it does concern me more than a little bit that JE's agent has JE linked with literally anything and everything.

He's either going into business for himself, in the pursuit of the dollar, or JE has given him the instruction to do this.

It's not a coincidence either way.

Maybe, but I’m sure it’s not going unnoticed what he’s doing with ten bob and a bag of balls.

He needs to be backed in the January Window, (and yes I know he probably won’t be and that will likely hasten his departure).

Wouldn't happen. Now Martin has completely failed at Southampton he'll be first in line to replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

Stuck to his principles and got his team smashed.

Worked for Kompany, why can't it work for Martin?

Don't think there is any risk of Eustace going to the prem. He is a great manager but I just don't see him being a fit

There were a couple of articles linking him to Southampton earlier in the season, but they seemed more like gossip for clicks.

They're the only club I could realistically see him going to this season, but they were burnt by Nathan Jones a couple of years back, so I'm not sure we'd see them appointing someone with no prem experience, unless it was a foreign manager.

Yeah I thought the same.

Eustace is a young ambitious manager who is currently doing a very good job, the problem, as always will be that the club won't match what he eventually wants to do/achieve.

Same as JDT when he was here, he was always linked away when a job came up, and again that was him and his agent at play.

Notice how Mowbray in the 5 years he was here didn't get linked with anything, and that's because he was happy plodding along, doing nothing under very little pressure and topping up his pension fund.

Young, ambitious people don't last long at this club because under this ownership, what's the point?

Can't see Eustace leaving here he's building something special managers aren't as shall we say "shallow" as players when it comes to leaving for a premiership club. Hos start to Rovers life has been all positive so there's no reason for him to leave right now

First bit of serious interest and Eustace will be off.

Unless we somehow go up this season, Eustace won't be here building anything special because the owner's won't allow it.

Spot on. Which is what leaves us in this perpetual cycle, going nowhere. With the lack of backing it'd take a small miracle and a phenomenal manager to get us promoted. It then takes another huge slice of luck for said manager not to be poached as soon as things start looking rosy.

This January is huge. Eustice has earnt the backing. I'm still highly doubtful we'll see it materialise. We've been here so many times before and unfortunately, that's what the club becomes known for and we become less and less attractive to any manager with ambition.

I think it’s too soon for a prem job. Saints will want an experienced PL manager. He’s only managed one full season of championship football hasn’t he? If we stay on this trajectory then he’ll be gone within the next year but I think prem clubs will look elsewhere for the time being.

Yeah I absolutely agree... only thing that gives me doubt is maybe Wolves or Southampton decide they are down already and go for a punt on a Championship manager to minimise their costs and build for the future rather than go for a Prem recovery specialist like Big Sam or someone.

Southampton are so far adrift already it feels like that could be their strategy.

But then I suppose if expect relegation is the brief it's possible that Eustace would not fancy having his reputation trashed by getting thrashed every week. Hmmm.

Still reckon we have a good shot to keep him this season as he really hasn't achieved anything concrete yet. If he makes playoffs it becomes a different story.

I would be absolutely amazed if Eustace got a Premier League gig at the moment. He has absolutely no evidence of being able to bring anything of instant success which is needed at that level.

He has evidence of bringing clubs together, improving individuals but Premier League clubs want people who can come and deliver instant results. I am a big, big John Eustace fan but let's make no bones about it, the reason we aren't in League One now is 80% Sam Szmodics, 20% John Eustace.

Mowbray didn’t get interest because we rarely looked like getting promoted! JDT had a higher profile due to his playing days so was more likely to get linked elsewhere when we were doing well. Look where he went to after he left us. That doesn’t happen to most Championship managers.

I think Eustace is still too unproven for a PL side. We’re more vulnerable to ambitious championship teams with parachute cash. Luton might not be attractive enough but if an Ipswich/Leicester come down next season and make a change, I can see Eustace being a strong contender.

I might end up looking silly further down the line for this, but I'm not worried at all about Eustace being poached.  Prem jobs going to Championship managers - especially those without a promotion on their CV - are as rare as hens teeth.

When it comes to other Championship teams, it's surprisingly rare to see managers go directly from one club to another. Stoke have got form in bringing in Schumacher from Plymouth and Alex Neil from Sunderland, but they are the only examples I can think of in the last couple of years.

Ultimately there's not much money around if you don't have parachute payments, and so that means i) most clubs are roughly as attractive as each other when it comes to resources, and ii) clubs aren't willing to pay £1million plus in compensation even if Eustace were interested.

If a parachute club, or maybe e.g. Middlesbrough really wanted him come the end of the season then I'd worry, but even there teams tend to be picky in wanting a manager who already has a record of promotion to the prem.

I would like to think that 2 reasons will stop Prem teams from considering Eustace. Firstly, I dont think he has done anything worthy of a Prem job just yet. But football is run by director of footballs who seem to prioritise playing "the right way" driven by data etc over actual results. Eustace is quite pragmatic and focusing on clean sheets doesnt seem to be glamorous anymore.

I don't think it's even driven by data. I bet it would be easy to use data to show much of a brilliant job Dyche did at Burnley, for example. It wouldn't have stopped people turning their nose up at him though because of 'style of play'. Completely baffling.

I think you're right about Eustace. He's obviously gong to have a growing list of people recognising the job he's doing, but when it comes to the small number of clubs who might actually go for him? You can imagine a lot of reactions going something like "he's done brilliantly at Rovers, but do we want someone who's so defensive/not gone promoted/not a big name" etc.

Have to hope that's right. I saw an article online claiming he was under very serious consideration for the Wolves job. There must be some underlying reason other than the fact we're doing well that he appears near the top of runners and riders for virtually every job that crops up.

Eustace CAN NOT be allowed to leave - at the very least not until the end of the season. The owners are allegedly multi billionaires, if they want to keep him at the Club, they can.

Talk sport saying Southampton looking at Sheffield Wednesday manager but hit a problem so if true they are considering championship manager

Talksport also said that paying compensation for Rohl  would be a problem so you would hope the same thing would apply with Eustace.

Knowing our lot however..........
