He has made harder to beat and defensively much better plus having JRC back from injury and having that front 4 available will be massive help to him going forward Defensively, the turnaround has been impressive. 3 Quote
Bohinen1983 Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 Let's just calm down a bit.. He's won one game. A lot of the games he's had were against sides around us too.. He'll have to do a lot more to convince me.. Hopefully he proves me wrong as if I am wrong that means Rovers are successful.. Without major investment any manager is going to struggle though. 2 Quote
roversfan99 Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 His results overall have not been good enough even allowing for the excuses he professes not to want to use. And I dont agree that performances have been excellent up before today as he said post match. But fair play today, we were set up really well, we pressed well and the result was fantastic so hopefully its a springboard. Quote

If we'd have had 7 clean sheets I would say that is true but we're still conceding goals only now, today aside, we've totally nullified our attacking threat. Almost as though having nothing up front means more has to be committed forward to create goals and that, funnily enough, leaves us exposed at the back. When Szmodics is sold for a pittance in the summer and he's not replaced how many will we win when conceding nearly every game and we've got Markanday and Leonard up front? Quote

In Tomasson's last 11 games we conceded 27,in the 11 since we've conceded 11, and never more than 2. We've lost 3 out of that 11,all by a single goal. We needed tightening up, we were going down. The bloke has shown some nous. 6 Quote

How many of those goals conceded have been down to Pears ? What can a manager do about that ? Drop him and play Wahlstadt ? 5 Quote

That is an X factor, bear in mind that JDT had Leo in goal for quite a few games and his confidence and therefore the defences confidence in him were all completely shot. 2 Quote
Gav Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 (edited) Just moving away from the petty point scoring, today’s result was massive in the context of the relegation battle. Eustace has inherited a mid table squad low on quality and lacking in confidence. Today's result was massive and all credit to the manager, players and his back room team, nobody saw that coming. Onwards and upwards. Edited April 1, 2024 by Gav 8 1 Quote
Popular Post Ossydave Posted April 1, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2024 (edited) You'd have to be a bit simple to not realise Eustace has made improvements on the defensive side of things. What he's struggled to do is get the balance right in terms of attacking. Today he got it spectacularly right. A few returning players were crucial to this as well. Priority number one in the summer has to be a solid proven goalkeeper. He doesn’t have to be special, just one who doesn’t keep letting the team down with silly, basic mistakes 6 Quote
Upside Down Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 A great win today and that could well be the one result that keeps us up. Gives us a massive confidence boost and puts a nail in the coffin of the teams below us. Hopefully we'll beat Southampton. I'd love for that tosser Martin to fail getting the best squad in the league promoted. 3 Quote

We are right back to the Steele, Jake Kean level of a decade ago and that's pathetic given how much time it took to get the keeper dept decent again. Jake didn't cost 800k either and a Simon Eastwood would be number 1 in this set up. 4 Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 got to be a priorty in the summer,a reliable goalkeeper,id`e put both pears and wahlstadt on the available list, get them off the wage bill and buy a keeper who is bigger and more consistent Quote
Backroom Tom Posted April 1, 2024 Backroom Posted April 1, 2024 Well I’ve not been impressed so far but what a performance and win that is, let’s hope it’s a real turning point 1 Quote
Andy Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 Today was brilliant, really enjoyed that. But it is slightly worrying that he thinks that we've been 'excellent' in every game he's managed for us. We've improved defensively, but if the last 11 games set the standard of 'excellent', it doesn't really inspire any confidence for next season. We've been a team in transition, of course, but we have been far, far from excellent on the whole. 2 Quote

What he actually thinks or says behind the scenes could well be different. As long as he doesn’t actually believe that I’m ok with it. 7 Quote

AllRoverAsia Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 Well, he pulled the rabbit out of the hat today! I didn't see the game so can't offer opinion of us or Sunderland but everything I've read and seen, which is now quite a bit, says we were good and they were very very shite. Home to Southampton is a much bigger test. A draw would be ok but a win makes us more or less ok whilst screwing Martin. What could be better than that 1 Quote
