After today’s performance, it occurred to me that the apparent reason that Travis went on loan (wanted to play the 6, receiving the ball from the defence) doesn’t track at all to the player Travis has been this season. Dynamic and much more of an 8, closer to how I remember him breaking through.

What happened there and what’s happened since, do we think?

Trav started as a box to box player. That’s his best role.

He's also doing great to not get that yellow card to get a ban. I think it was him a few years ago that went on that amazing run of not getting a yellow card (think it was like 10 games) to not be banned. Seems like he gets enjoyment from it!

Super pass for the second goal. The really obvious ball was outside the fullback to Pickering. But he delayed the pass so he could slide the ball inside their full back and get Pickering in possession much nearer to Weimann.  Top class play.

Brilliant performance from Trav today. Excellent going forward and a wonderful defence splitting pass for the second goal but equally important in the defensive third. Worthy of his captains armband and epitomises what Rovers are about(and have characteristically always been about): work hard, don’t be flashy, be tough as nails and surprise a few with moments of quality. COYB!

Richie Smallwood went ages without a caution whilst he was on nine several years ago.

Travis was excellent yesterday and he has forged a real partnership with Mr 7/10 Sonny Tronstad. Playing with Tronstad allows him to get forward more and has added another dimension to his game.

To think that late last season we got rid of him to save a wage.

I said at the time it was the pass of the season. It was perfection. The accuracy and weight of it shouldn't be understated neither should Pickering's movement particularly to stay onside. Moments like that are why football is so important to us.

Travis does have it in his locker, yesterday's pass was on a par with the one at QPR.

It’s not just the execution, which was perfect, it was the selection of the pass. I’d have played it out wide to Pickering earlier and made life harder for Pickering. He delayed the pass until he could get it inside the fullback and make Pickering’s job a lot easier.

Possibly why he’s a pro and I wasn’t.

Mowbray's decision to forge Travis into some hard man enforcer (Bradley Johnson 2.0) was a huge mistake. 

As others have said, Tronstad does the tidying up allowing Travis to drift forward. When they both sit back we start having attacking issues

Plus Ipswich were relying on Morsy, who was their talisman. They obviously saw Travis as a direct replacement if something happened to Morsy.

How can you coach it out of him? And how would it then come back?

The one manager who would have question marks over his usage and treatment of Travis certainly isnt Mowbray. Travis was very good in that last Mowbray season.

Easy, you just tell him what areas of the pitch to play in and how to play in that area.

If there is a manager who can be mainly accused of misusing and being a hindrance to Travis' career, it's undoubtedly Tomasson.
