Where two parties are minded to do a deal, as they are in these two transfers, then you sit down, hammer it out and get the feckin deal closed. With SS - clearly, the lad wants to go and almost certainly wont play for us again. Not only is this unsettling for the lad but for the group as a whole. He needs to be out the building. With de Lange, all protracted negotiations do is alert other potential suitors and you risk losing the player. Who can ever forget us losing Roy Keane to United because Rovers' offices were closed on a Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Snooze and you lose - it's that simple. If it was as easy as that all clubs would have transfers done within 24/48 hours. Reality is clubs are businesses and they will penny pinch in every way possible until they find middle ground. Happens in every single club long drawn out transfer sagas isn’t just rovers look at Conor Gallagher transfer for example been on going few weeks now too. It’s football

Honestly, I don’t think we’re any faster or slower than anyone else. The speed of deals comes down to money. When clubs are flush - they go in, pay the money and take the player. Most times there’s a considerable amount of negotiation behind the scenes. But to put this in context, Palace negotiated for around two weeks on Adam Wharton to do a deal for £18m. A player who was being courted nationally and is now worth 3 or 4x what they paid. The agreement in principle / interest in JDL wasn’t even broken until this weekend. Let them get on with it…no need to swallow an extra £400k loss on what they want to pay, or bow to Ipswich re SS. It needs sorting but the main thing is that the 5/6 signings made last week means we can now field a decent team on Friday night. FWIW - I still see the SS and JDL thing being resolved this week. Leonard Venkhater
Just now, Ricky said: But it’s the same if we buy a player. It’s no different, we don’t pay the fee all in one go so it’s exactly the same. We could buy a £5m player with the £5m Raya sell on as we wouldn’t pay for that player all in one go. But.....the Premier League clubs have so much more money ...
riverholmes
The Premier League have got it down to a fine art. They even use varying sell-on percentage clauses within a transfer to incentivise buying clubs not to later sell on to a rival.
B16Rover
What is the Rovers credit rating. I wonder if that makes a difference to installments both loaning against future incoming and paying in outgoing

This is the awful thing about the Raya add-ons...A Premier League club with all its riches, dragging out the payments over several years... That’s our fault for not insisting it would become payable immediately upon a future sale.

If Nixon is correct that's more than reasonable on our part. It's Ipswich who are tyrekicking and not interested enough to pay a realistic fee imo. We SHOULD tell them to do one until they're prepared to take negotiations seriously. But.........

For all we know JE doesn't rate Pears, but he simply has to play him because Hilton is nowhere near the required ability.
Ricky
Just have to hope that there’s some scouts who watched the game against Newcastle at Ewood BUT NO OTHERS!! May be able to get a few quid for Pears based on that.

Wasnt there a second goalkeeper at PSV who we apparently wanted? Not that £1.25m should be beyond us. Assuming that some of the rumours about goalkeepers this summer have been true, small cash buys, aging freebies, loanees, it doesnt scream of a club with a plan. roversfan99
And if we do want Rushworth, Sheffield United and his old club Swansea will be far more likely, so that wont happen.
