So, ~£36m net transfer income (fair bit subject to Wharton being sold again. I've assumed we've secured another £2m on top of the £18m initial fee) and maybe a net reduction of £1m in forward-looking wage 'commitments' (trickier to interpret, particularly with respect to offloading players with long-term deals left).

Probably some truth in Waggott's claim that our wages have gone up since last year after bringing in a few vets on (one year!) decent wages deals, but obviously net transfer fees are the elephant in the room!

I don't share the optimism about the new lads. They've played two games against two poor sides.  You get what you pay for. Selling our best players and not adequately reinvesting is going to cost us.

I expect us to stagnate and tread water, plugging the remaining gaps with cheap punts, old has-beens and loans.  Whilst I acknowledge and am initially impressed by the signings of Ohashi and Gueye, they needed to be additions to an already depleted squad, not replacements for anyone who left this summer, let alone our talisman.

We need 5 more, and a minimum of 3 should be cash purchases who improve our squad and have potential to be the next double figure sale. Anything else is inexcusable. 

I'll probably be branded a Venkys stooge for this, but I'm not necessarily bothered how much the club spends, I'm more interested that they've done due diligence over whoever comes in. 

Gestede's signings so far give hope that we're now  looking in the right places,and at the right levels.

Most important of all, any new keeper signing has to be absolutely spot on.
