Well i said that days ago an it ain't rocket science of ITK it's bloody obvious.

This imo will be the toughest window in a long time, pin it.

Clock is ticking, we bare scraped through last season and really need reinforcements. How long has it taken us to earmark a striker? A few years now...

Three freshly promoted teams plus ourselves in that race. What's the betting we finished last out of the 4?

Yes, get ready for weeks of this type of scenario.

Not forgetting, of course, deals agreed in principle, but falling through whilst waiting to be rubber stamped in Pune.

Remember Eustace also said the squad doesn't need much adding.

If we have more than one player in before the season starts I will be amazed.

He didn’t say that. He said that we only needed additions in a few areas iirc. Forwards is an ‘area’ so we might bring in 5 forwards. Defence is an ‘area’ so we might bring in 3 defenders etc etc

We spent millions on BBD and it took him years to get up to speed but he stepped up when ready, we spent over a million plus add ons on Sammie and it took him a season to step up so really a similar signing to himself should be coming into the building now.

Building for the future seems to have gone out the window in favour of a return to cobbling together whatever they can 1 season at a time.

Can we really not find a million or two for a proven lge 1 fwd who's ready to try and step up !

Apparently missed out on Murphy to pompey.. isnt he a local to the area? Pretty tragic if so. Doubt we'd had our stuff together to be in for anyone at this point though

Not unless you consider London (where he was born) or Norwich (where he spent his youth career) to be local to the area

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Murphy

Not sure we missed out on much there, he scored 1 goal more than Siggy (making this comparison because both are right footed players who played wide left) from 1 game less (in the division below), and for a team fighting for promotion rather than relegation.

Are we really gutted we haven’t sign Murphy (who turns 30 this season). A championship/ league one journeyman who had a decent season in League 1 and will be looking for one big last pay day. Done well to avoid.

Agreed. No better than Dolan, Siggy or Hedges.

We need to aim higher.

You would have liked to have new signings in by now with time to bed in....but that would had been unlike Rovers.

It’s been the case across the championship to be honest.

No, we’re not gutted, but that isn’t really the point.

We can’t persuade players that we are the best option.

He is decent player..if he sign here he would have been squad player at best here.

If you were a professional football player and you had the choice between another club and this absolute cesspool what would you choose?

Whoever pays me the most.

Or we offered a contract on the basis he’s a squad player for one or two years and Portsmouth want him playing regularly and agree to sign him for 3 with the possibility of 4 years.

Totally agree with the club not doing that. Totally understand why he would choose Portsmouth, nothing to do with us being unable to attract a league 1 player.

To be honest, If I was Murphy, you would struggle to convince me that I would be first choice ahead of Dolan and Sigurdsson (assuming at least one of them is staying for at least this season), but he might fancy his chances of being in the first 11 more against the likes of Callum Lang, Paddy Lane and Gavin White at Portsmouth.

Edit - Not saying Dolan and Siggy are world beaters, just that they are better than the options Portsmouth have in wide positions

Okay, that’s a very positive take.

Let’s see how the next few weeks pan out when we go for other players who have multiple suitors.

Murphy had a very fruitful February - May last season, but didn’t do much before then.

Quite a few Oxford fans were ready for him to be released and see the back of him.

He would have only been a squad player and I’m sure Portsmouth will have promised him regular minutes. With the current players in the squad such as Dolan, Sigurdsson and Hedges we would be unable to convince him that he’d start most games.
