I watched a bit of the Nurnberg game and he didn't look bad, though my main observation was that the lad is an absolute unit.

O’Riordan has to push on if he’s going to make any impact on the starting 11. He’s had plenty of senior games so he’s not one we should be loaning out. If he’s not good enough then we need to get shot.

Yeah we have to be giving O'Riordan some sort of chance as a 4th choice this season, but we still need another centre half as we can't be having Gamble sat on the bench at any point this season because of injuries etc as he is nowhere near ready.

Another one who needs assessing out on loan.

Forgot about him to be fair but be a very big risk going into the season with just Hyam,Carter, Batth and O'Riordan 

O'Riordan not tested at this level and Batth hardly played last year .Hyams form was woeful last season

Nixon saying Leeds & Ipswich have until the end of July otherwise the deal is off? A Leeds source then saying they SS isn’t a top target for them…All of this is happening whilst we are paying a fee for a player, when we’ve been told no money unless we sell???

Might be flapping here but have we jumped the gun a little promising this Japanese player we’ll have him but realised we aren’t hitting the fee for szmodics we need…Hence the Nixon post???

So the last player of any real value - and the only goalscorer in the squad is being willlingly sold and replaced by a 26 or 27 year old Japanese player who has no experience in English football whatsoever. A complete and total gamble. That’s the best Waggott and his chums have got. The squad is on its knees both quality wise and numbers wise and this is their answer?

What an effing mess.

We’ve raked in £25m in last 6 months. I’m sure we can stretch to £800k (which is what we got for Wahlstedt). And who said we had to sell again to buy someone?

I suspect we won't be signing the J-League player unless we sell Szmodics.

The deadline, if true, is probably there to push that deal through in order to fund the other.

We'd still be open to selling Szmodics after that deadline anyway you know what they are like, they'll sell him on deadline day if an offer comes in.

Blackburn Rovers register interest in forward Yuki Ohashi

Backburn Rovers are interested in Japanese attacker Yuki Ohashi as they look to break their duck in the transfer window, The Lancashire Telegraph understands.

The 27-year-old attacker currently plies his trade in the J-League in Japan for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Rovers have been keen to bolster their attack all summer and with Ipswich Town now chasing Sam Szmodics, there is an even greater urgency to bring in new faces.

The Tractor Boys had a bid rejected by Rovers this week, with reports from Suffolk claiming that was in the region of £6million. It's understood that the figure offered is well below the club's asking price but it feels unlikely that will be the end of their pursuit.

The J-League season is 24 games old and Ohashi has been their top goal-scorer, netting 11 goals and registering three assists so far this term, plus an extra five in cup competitions.

Initial reports in Japan claim Ohashi would be a deal worth around £1m, however, The Lancashire Telegraph understands that figure is higher than what could be agreed. It's understood the forward has some favourable clauses in his contract when it comes to negotiating with European clubs.

The Japanese reports also state that a deal has been agreed between the two clubs and he will fly over in the coming days. A work permit would need to be sorted for Ohashi to play in the Championship.

That should be a formality as Rovers have four ESC slots available, which can used for players that would not otherwise qualify for a work permit under the new post-Brexit rules. Leopold Wahlstedt and Semir Telalovic assumed two of those last season but have both left the football club this summer.

Rovers are also interested in signing defender Danny Batth on a free transfer. The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Norwich City and is currently training with Wolves to maintain fitness as he weighs up contract offers.

Blackburn Rovers have taken an interest in Japanese forward Yuki Ohashi in a bid to add more goals to their squad.

John Eustace has consistently referenced the need to add more goal-scorers to his squad. Approaching the final week of July, any additions would be welcome at this stage.

Things appear to have at least stepped up this week in their pursuit of fresh talent. Danny Batth is also another live target with other deals not dead but yet to progress from the 'interest' phase.

Throw in Ipswich Town's interest in Sam Szmodics and Rovers need to put their foot on the gas. Therefore, the potential addition of Ohashi is an interesting one.

We don't profess to be experts on the J-League so we found someone who is, to give us a better understanding of the player Rovers are looking at recruiting.

Thanks to Dan Orlowitz, Japanese football writer, for his insight on the Sanfrecce Hiroshima forward.

How would you describe Yuki Ohashi as a forward? What type of player is he?

He's an all-around forward committed to the attack. Can hold possession, can press, can make runs behind the back line. Very dangerous when he gets the ball in the box.

What are his main strengths and weaknesses?

Aggressive when it comes to finishing, takes headers well. Incredible work rate, you'll notice how many games he goes the full 90'.

As for weaknesses... he's good, but he's J.League good, not national team good. Not a weakness so much as a question mark in terms of is he ready for this level.

How does the quality level translate from the J-League to the Championship? Do you think he can adapt to English football?

I think the Championship is probably a higher level on aggregate, but the gap isn't as far as you'd think; it's a great stepping stone for Japanese players who are transitioning to Europe.

Again, whether Ohashi is ready is a question mark - he's one of those players you could see being a lifetime J.Leaguer. 27, these days, is very late in the game to be going to Europe. But if he's looking for this challenge, he'll certainly want to prove doubters wrong.

Would you regard it as a coup? Or just a good fit for club and player?

Yu Hirakawa, who signed for Bristol City this summer from Machida Zelvia, was a coup, Ohashi would be a good fit, I think.

What are your overall thoughts on the potential signing, would he be a good addition?

Obviously, I'm not a Blackburn expert so I can't speak to where he'd fit in the squad, but he's far and away Sanfrecce's most electric player this season.

I dare say losing him would be a major dent to their domestic and international campaigns coming up. So in that sense, Hiroshima's loss would definitely be Blackburn's gain.

bit of a massive step up for a lad to go from playing in japan to the intensity of championship football,he`ll have experienced nothing like what awaits him,sooner stick with the german lad engelhardt,he`d be a better fit

From what I've seen, the guy from the J-League looks more a number 10 and the German is a number 9
