He did manage 7 goals and 4 assists this season. A season he started and ended injured. He arrived in june last year and got injured shortly after, missing out on preseason. His movement inside the box and his ability to finish is second only to Szmodics.

I remember Gamst Pedersen arriving at the club, struggling at first until he put on a few kilos of muscles and toughed up.

Siggy has to follow suit and add some physicality to his game and get up to speed. He is clearly one of the most talented in the squad.

The overall sucess of the Siggy signing is 'mixed' so far, but I did like the creativity shown by the recruitment team. Managing to pick off a talented 24-year-old with decent pedigree for no transfer fee (probably still on a decent wage, but still) by taking advantage of 'geopolitical events'... that's the kind of thing clubs in our financial position need to explore.

As you say, if he can step up his physicality/show some better endurance, he's pretty much the only goalscoring hope if/when Sammie leaves, but certainly only an if!

In the last 6 seasons, he's averaged only ~1,900min/season on the pitch (that's including a decent chunk of Iceland minutes) due to a combination of injuries, club turmoil, and often being a sub. The most he's managed in a continuous year was 2,271min back in 2019-20 (he managed ~2,600min across his loan in Sweden, but that's split across two seasons - I didn't bother to calculate that exactly!) Can he put in the 3,000+min we'd need as our lead attacker? Doubtful...

He isn’t going to sign a new deal.

Please no thumbs down, BUT:

Would anyone take George Hirst back? I doubt Ipswich see him as PL quality and would probably be available on loan in the summer or later on in January. We're not exactly shopping from the top shelf at this point, so just a thought.

JDT couldn't get a tune out of Hirst one bit but Mckenna has where he has played a good part in them getting 2 promotions there

I think he will actually move on. 12 months left on his contract, until there is 12 club option extension on the deal then I think Eustace will sell him. He was our second top goal scorer this season

Correct.

A big part of Sammies success is his workrate and attitude, that isn't coming from Siggy he's a luxury player who will struggle under Eustace.

Expand

A luxury player is one who has oodles of talent but other parts of their game are missing. Sigurdsson isn’t that talented and doesn’t like the physicality of English football. He needs to leave this summer for his and our sake

I wonder if we will look to agree a pre contract with Duncan McGuire first if we still want him then try to negotiation a low fee for transfer of £1m -1.5m

I wonder why you keep suggesting McGuire. It ain't happening... he'll have other offers and he sure ain't going to pick us now is he.

who knows? do you know what offers he is receiving and given he has 6 months left on his deal a pre contract move by us would be smart move by us.

A ‘12 club option extension’ sounds complicated.

McGuire will have options as a 'free agent', however, is he really decent (you don't languish in US football if you are) and if he does have options, wtf would he choose, IMO, a shambolic club like Rovers.

Really? Didn't feature under Eustace much compared to under JDT.

If the coach doesn't want him he can go

Yep. He has given enough up for the club. Best we shift him

Stats below show he played 60-90mins most games under JDT then after QPR his appearance no.s drop dramatically bar a couple of games..now he is injured

Doesn't suit JE style?

Im not sure what you’re saying ‘really’ to? I just meant we’d likely sell him if, as suggested, he won’t sign another contract. That’s the model after all. I think he’s a good player personally but if the manager doesn’t rate him then it’s his prerogative to sell him.

He'll be coming back from injury so we are stuck with each other and despite his flaws he has scored a few and assisted a few.

Not many others we can point to in this squad with similar so to us in this current state he remains a bit of a luxury because he clearly has capabilities.

Duncan McKenzie ?  Siggy isn’t fit to lace his boots.

That’s clearly because JDT didn’t have Dolan and Gally. Most of Siggurdson’s starts and full games come from mid December up until QPR when those two were missing.

Incidentally It also coincides with our bad run, along with being without JRC, Pears and Hyam.

He wasn't physically ready when he was first with us - had some raw attributes, but just wasn't ready.

However, he looks to have bulked up a bit and has scored a few goals for Ipswich this season.

I mean, he'd score more than Gally.

Expand

Hirst, 25 years old, 29 appearances, 7 goals 7 assists.

Gallagher, 28 years old, 27 appearances, 5 goals 6 assists.

Siggy scored as many as Hirst this season but in 34 appearances. 4 assists.

I'm not sure if Hirst would be much better but my view is soured by seeing him in a blue and white shirt.

Hirst didn't fit JDTs style even if he had got off to a better start it was another misguided signing but to be fair they probably just wanted him to replace Gallys place in the squad eventually.

He'd do well under Eustace imo but at Ipswich he had another good striker to play off and good service around him it was all set up for his type to thrive, unlike here.

A club with a real plan and everyone pulling in the right direction, polar opposite in fact to this joke of a club.

He isn’t languishing, he’s one of the most exciting talents in US football and has just been capped by the national team.
