As if Greg or anyone at the club has the authority to set player prices or make gentlemen's agreements the owners will be doing that

Aye I know this, and they most certainly wouldn't be described as gentlemen.  Gregg did however talk a good game, who knows what sort of guff he came out with to players.

I find it odd that you consider signing a number of players in a short time period to be a barometer of whether you think things are bad or not.

I don't see what the relevance of this is or why it convinces you that things aren't that bad at the club.

I was referring to people's comments last Saturday after Nicko's comments what they meant. People thought it was bad news whilst I said Nicko news was good and positive.

We are all aware of different issues at Rovers but do we really need to keep going on about in the transfer thread.

I think we are all relieved to see some transfer activity at long last after nothing all summer and getting alarmingly close to the start of the season without reinforcements. We are a long way off being able to say whether these signings are any good.

But whether they are good, bad, middling - it still doesn't tell me that the club is in anything other than short term firefighting mode in dealing with a major financial crisis. We are signing people who are big gambles and people who are coming to the end of their Championship careers.

Some will say that's just the way it has to be for us. But it doesn't, our activity as recently as 2022 with Hyam, Szmodics and Brittain shows that we can actually spend some money and sign people from Championship rivals or top end League One players.

Getting a few signings over the line is good, necessary and hopefully these players work out ok for us. But that doesn't mean the club is in a good or healthy place. It just means we've used a very small % of our income on some attempt to strengthen what was a woefully short squad.

Yes I am pleased that we have made a number of signings with John Park, Rudy Gestede and Adam Owen using the contacts and knowledge(Eustace credited them in his post match comments on Friday night).

Whether they are success we will see on the pitch and both from what I was told by different people at the game both strikers look to have something about them.

lets hope we can make some more signings before the Derby game and afterwards

I’ve just had a look on their forum and they seem very much in favour of the swap deal. Seems Baker is a bit more of an attacking CM as one comment says he’s good for a few goals but very little else.

A goal scoring CM will do for me though.

It doesn't seem they have played him as an attacking midfielder very often in his 3 years there.  Granted goal scoring midfielder does not necessarily mean attacking midfielder if he gets his goals from long range shots and free kicks

This Germain chap looks quite a robust fella physically. Takes a cracking penalty too and looks to have a good left peg on him.

When I used to play Football Manager I would always bring in a couple of players of the same nationality as it helps them settle in a new country. Good to see our recruitment team are on the same page😉

Yeah, not an AMC, an attacked minded CM. As in he’s more Super Atko than David Batty. Tronstad is the new Batty!

Maybe JE just doesn’t rate Travis and thinks Baker is a better player.

Eustace has said enough comments on Travis to know he rates Travis but if he wants Baker then he got a decision to make how badly he wants him and is he willing to sacrifice Travis to get Baker

Baker is more useful in terms of he'll have a pop from distance and he offers a threat on set pieces.  Travis offers usually average performances and shit-housery.

Not much in it really, but as people have said - we need an extra body really rather than a swap.

I was reading something last week that said both we and Stoke had made an offer to a free agent midfielder and he was mulling them over.  Not sure if it was nonsense or if we've both moved on tbh.

I hope its not Fleck.

Ambitious move for Dennis Praet maybe 🤣

maybe the free agent is Andre Dozzell

Some interesting facts..up to the age of 24 Sammie S was a mediocre league two player scoring goals...a late bloomer... I would not say that Vale who is 22 won't make it coming season in the championship.

He is going to get injured for the whole season and Rovers win the league?  and next year he will have a fight with Pickering in Russia? 😉

Seems a big call, but I am all in!  Its your fault if I lose the house

PS who is the new Sherwood?

1 quick player isn't enough.

But it might be all we can afford, it is upto the manager to adopt tactics, to get the best out of what we have available.

Yes. Pickering will be found to be a Russian spy and expelled from the country. Tronstad, enraged by Pickski’s duplicity, will hunt him down and give him a right good slapping in Stalingrad.

Or has he taken it from Nixon or the other way around? Either way hope they both would so some due diligence before publishing meaning there's something in it

I think he’s just repeating the Nixon story. I think they know of each other though, Nixon was complimentary of him during the Yuki saga.

It’s an interesting narrative…

I think the problem with Trav is that he hasn’t nailed down his job in the team. His core abilities - physicality, shit-housery and leadership lend him to playing as a 6. The problem for him is that Sonny IS a 6 and ticks all the boxes.

If you’re going to play two CM’s Sat in front of your defence then one of them needs to be much more technical (think Adam Wharton). This player can defend but their strength is playing on the half turn, taking the ball off the cb’s and starting attacking moves. Trav cannot do this. So, the manager probably wants Baker to come in and be that technical player we need.

In an ideal world, we keep Trav and add Baker. If Sonny gets injured, who have we got left at the club that could break the play up?

My feeling is that Travis has his heart set on leaving following the club sanctioning his loan last January. Either way, I think we need one, plus Baker if we lose Trav.

More to travis leaving than his limited ability, his culture will be missed around the team, especially the new lads…Think it’s the wrong decision to let him leave and I think he’s extremely average.

I think he has no leadership ability at all. He likes to moan and point fingers at others.

Seems less, him breaking the story and more him following up on Nixon’s report.

Either way, I’d expect there to be something in this. Nixon has his finger on the Rovers pulse. (As much as it pains me to say)

De Lange, Germain, Kaide, Baker and Unleaded’s marque winger please 🙏🏽

The problem with Trav, as JDT quickly realised, is that you can’t rely on him as a DM. JDT sussed him quite early on and moved him further forward a few months into JDTs first season.

JDT also quickly realised Trav isn’t that great as an 8 either due to the fact he isn’t that great technically.

I’m fairly sure the CM that JE said was still needed isn’t coming in to replace Tronstad.

Yeah I think it will be more about Travis wanting to leave than Eustace pushing him out.

We basically told him we dont value him.

The team that wanted him ultimately got promoted. Ergo its quite logical that Travis will think he can do better elsewhere, with the extra money and longer contract etc a move will bring.

Sonny is top class. The best 6 we’ve had in years.
