The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)

A rare occasion where the club is absolutely desperate to sell him to pocket the money so much so that he is being forced out of pre season and training

I don't believe for a second that Szmodics, in view of his efforts of last season, is refusing to play or train.

He's top of 'the list' the stooges are working hard on, desperate to offload to help their bosses have to tip the cash in instead.

If you own a football club at this level and don't like losing money two solutions:

1) Get promoted to access PL riches

2) Clear off

Not acceptable to stay and reduce the club to a size and cost that you are willing to cover.

The only club to offer anything for Szmodics is Ipswich and their offers have fell below the asking amount.

There are a million things to criticise Waggott and the venkys over, refusing to sell for a cut down price isn't one of them. it's one of the areas we actually operate correctly in.

Eustace has today said to the media we need 5 players.

GK, Full back, Midfield, 2 forwards who can play across the front line.

And that they all have to make us better and not be here to "make up the numbers/for the sake of it".

Good luck with that one!

Just what the fans and squad need to hear two days before the season starts. Basically saying 50% of the starting eleven are inadequate. I don't disagree, we're relying on the likes of Brittain, Hedges and Hyam for senior leadership ffs, but still.

Going to be a brutal season if the manager is already getting his excuses in before a competitive ball has been kicked. Same as last season under JDT, albeit we inexplicably muddled through to November before falling apart last year.

But forcing/having a - your best - player out of 80% of preseason and team selection when the offer was so "far below the asking amount". Szmodics should have been in every session and team until the bids came even close to value. That you can 100% be critical of.

Didn't see De Lange being held out of training after our 40% of asking price offer.

They are gambling, the case goes against them on the 20th and Ipswich will be offering £3m and not £6m.

Also Ipswich apparently offered £6m immediately with no installments.

Pears never looks the most confident of chaps, he must be absolutely made up with the manager always saying he wants a new keeper in every interview. Eustace still hasn't learned what we all fear and that is Pears is still number 1 come October!

As I said on the latest BRFCS podcast (available here for your audio pleasure), the 'six signings in a week' has turned the 'deadline day generation' into thinking this window is a success. Lets be clear: its four signings (plus one U23 player and one contract renewal) and two returning loans (Buckley, Travis) with outgoings from January of:

Sam Gallagher

Semir Telalovic

Leo Wahlstedt
John Fleck

Jake Garrett

A. Wharton
Niall Ennis

Yasin Ayari
Andrew Moran
Ben Chrisene

Billy Koumetio

Whether these 11 players where any good or not is beside the point. Tony Mowbray, Jon Dahl Tomasson and John Eustace have ALL said the squad is stretched. All of these players need replacing with either educated, well thought our recruitment or established Championship players.

The idea that we've had a good window or improved the squad is nonsensical. You cannot just keep removing first team players and promoting youth.

Great work. Look forward to listening as always

If we sold szmodics for 6million straight cash offer 90% of the fanbase would be in uproar

I can't recall any situation where the player has not played (never mind trained!!) during even the closing stages of a window, never mind with over 3-weeks to go.  Brereton played against Blackpool 24 hours before the window closed a couple of years ago, and that was admist seemingly very serious interest from Fulham and other clubs.

If he's still contracted to the club he should be playing.  If, as you say, no club has even come close to his valuation then it's extraordinary that he is effectively on gardening leave.

Looks more and more like Rovers are pinning their likely meagre transfer outlay on his departure - ridiculous given the amount of money already brought in since last summer.

They had their asking price and didn't accept any offers until Palace met it. We can all argue on what that asking price should have been however.

Agreed, however the way they have pulled him from all pre season action is not something they should ever do... But we do it with every sodding transfer out... even League Games which is something that needs to be nipped in the bud and stopped immediately

It's really strange.

Szmodics himself played for Peterborough a few days before coming here, and that was despite 2/3 weeks of negotiations beforehand with us.

I personally think we're wrapping him in cotton wool and are scared stiff of any kind of injury happening, they know they will get a decent deal for him in this window at some point and an injury obviously scuppers that.

They’re not playing him or letting him train with the group because they can’t afford for him to get injured.

Ipswich aren’t increasing their bid because they’re the only interested party and know we need to sell him.

I believe they call that checkmate.

He's saying 30% of the squad is inadequate - which is pretty much universally agreed upon here.

You're fucked with Pears in net anyway - whether he's full of beans or down in the dumps.

Perhaps clubs are aware of the impending court case after which we could well be desperate for money. And then it will be a buyers market and he will more than likely go for less. And if that happens it will be on the Punekars once again.

All I can deduce from this scenario is that they have effectively ringfenced a large portion of the transfer fee as the next firefighting funds for when the August hearing inevitably goes against them.  I can't think of another scenario (at Rovers or otherwise) where a club goes to such extraordinary lengths to avoid scuppering a potential windfall.

He's our best player and we have 4 games before the end of August, including a game against our bitter rivals.  He should have been preparing just like the rest of them to give us the best possible start to the season.

Who said he's not training? Whoever is going to buy him will be livid - he'll be miles away from match fitness.

I thought we were just holding him out of friendlies after he pulled up against Stanley?
