Cantwell makes so much sense.
something to prove - we are famous for redemption

can tear up the championship

think we will see JE get the most out of him

wages might be a stumbling block though

What's the basis of thinking he can tear up the Championship? Because he has a reasonable goal record in the SPL for the 2nd best side there? A league that contains plenty of clubs who are League One level? A league where our youth team player earned rave reviews, yet the best deal we could get for him was 200k from a League One side?

Or is it the 0 goals in 11 games and 0 goals in 18 games he attained in his last two Championship spells?

Cuntwell has lots of versatility. It’s not just the no. 10 role he can play and as others have said , he is miles better than Dolan in that role.

Maybe you're not that big an admirer actually if that's what you're calling him!

Hmm... it's a weird really that Szmodics left but number 10 is still probably our strongest position (Ohashi, Sigurdsson, Wieman all available for that role, while JRC, Hedges or Buckley can all fill in there if needed)... think I'd spend the money on gk, wingers, centre mid or even a backup for Big Mak before I went for another number 10.

Anyone who thinks Cantwell isn’t up to it needs to give their heads a wobble - serious talent, probably premier league level. Granted after his Norwich and Rangers exits there are massive questions around his personality and attitude.

He’s got everything to tear up the championship, if he fancies it.

If we can pick him up on the cheap it would be a massive + for the team. More exited about him then anyone else we’ve been linked with.

Don’t think he’s a player measured on his G/A numbers. It’s his ability in tight spaces, drawing defenders, excellent in possession, two footed. He’s seen as a No 10 but I think he plays a bit deeper than that, completely different to Szmodics.

I can only see us getting Cantwell if it’s a loan…Surely that’s the better option for rangers, put him in the shop window.

Hopefully a loan and then we can get a permanent either at GK or on the wing.

‘If he fancies it’ we cannot afford gambles

Unfortunately with the shambolic way we're run gambles are all we can get away with.

If you can look past the headband, the TikToks and the rumoured bad attitude, Cantwell is actually a very good player. Not against signing him personally.

Rovers should be all over Kristian Arnstad who wants to leave Anderlecht with one year left on his contract.

Norway U-21 captain with massive potential. Much younger version of Trondstad, who can dictate the play as a sitting midfielder.

Probably in our price range. I see Rangers linked, so forget Cantwell and pick up him instead.

Despite earning over 30M in a calendar year by selling our best players and having "assurance that issues ... will not prohibit or prevent the Owners from financially supporting the club in whatever way on and off the pitch when required" we're in the gambles and loans business, it seems. Doesn't make much sense to me, but I'm not in finance nor legal.

He's the most talented player we've been linked to (perhaps bar Poku) but it just feels like adding another #10 (an expensive, malcontent at that) to a team that is desperate for pace and width.

In terms of bonafide LW/CAM/RW options we have only 5 in Sigurdsson, Rankin-Costello, Dolan, Hedges and Weimann... however Buckley and Ohashi could play the #10 if needed.

JRC and Hedges are injury prone, Dolan and Buckley are maddeningly inconsistent, and Weimann is getting on in age. Sigurdsson and Dolan are also into their final season.

Needless to say that there is still definitly space for another Winger AND Central attacking player.

Cantwell on the right deal (ideally permanently), and a proper pacey/tricky winger is certainly something Rovers should target.
