Interesting graphic but as you note I don't think it ultimately shows too much, taken one very specific metric and lot of context missing around it.

I'm sure Aynsley works his arse off and is a lovely lad, but watching him over several years, he doesn't pass the eye test for me. He still makes the same howlers regularly that he made very early on e.g. Wigan away where he was at directly at fault for all three goals. All players make mistakes in all games. But when goalies do it it's more heavily scrutinised, that has always been part of the game and is why it's such an important position.

Usually when goalies make a mistake it's a one-off in the game and costs one goal. There's been occasions with AP where he has an absolute stinker and costs us multiple goals, think that shows there are issues around confidence and mentality as well as raw ability, maybe it could be coached out of him if we had someone around who knew what they were doing with a young-ish goalie.

That statistic plays to his strength as well because he's a decent shot stopper.

His decision making and positioning is poor to hilarious and that's what makes him not cut out to be a number one.

His confidence will be shot easily because the manager, players and he himself all know that he's not good enough so when he does make the inevitable mistakes the pressure is on a lot more.

Even though the goal yesterday was not down to him, I thought he was shit in the moment. It’s going to be either a shot or a ball slipped in to the six yard box. Sanderson did a good job sending him wide making the shot unlikely. Pearsy though didn’t see that, was protecting a shot unlikely to come so made no attempt to cut out the ball. Even worse, he went onto the floor even though he was nowhere near the ball, precluding the albeit slim chance of being hit by the shot had he thrown himself across to the back post. Useless.

Don't forget his iffy distribution too. I've lost count of the number of times he's had the ball at his feet with no pressure on him at all and he boots it straight out of play.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics 😉

I tried to post the twitter link, but for some reason it is not embedding

I note that the above is only for inside the box saves, so presumably shows keepers who are often beaten from longer range in a much better light than they may deserve

Pears big problem isn’t necessarily shot stopping. He can pull off decent saves for sure. See the last minute against Stoke and the last minute on Boxing Day.

It’s the other shit like dodgy punches, flapping at crosses, positioning and slicing balls into his own net. That’s something which won’t be shown on that chart

Let's hope Tony Coton wasn't there today - we need to maintain any illusion of basic level competence for a chance of offloading him.

However, there was never anything in the story in the first place, just Nixon putting out a fluff piece.

The first one looked soft today, but his actual diving technique for the second was beyond amateur.
Play Toth, for God's sake. He must be sat on the bench wondering who Pears has intimate photos of.

What was he doing for the first goal. And his immediate reaction was to blame everyone else. That will not instill confidence.

He does that every single time he messes up

Pears has well and truly ripped up any decent work he put in during the earlier parts of the season, where it looked like he had nullified a lot of his own errors.

When's his contract up? He's one player I couldn't care less about going for nothing.

bloody awful for both goals yesterday and tbh should have saved both. His positional is becoming a problem.

I would be looking at bringing in Bobby Mimms as senior GK coach. Did a very good job when here previously and worked wonders on Robinson's confidence.

Also we need a new number 1 in. Number 1 priority for me this summer.
