I wonder whether Sky will shown the highlights next season and made it available on their Sky mix channel on freeview?

ITV coverage of EFL this season isn't good enough for me. Its rushed

The ITV show started off like they gave a shit, not as good as the Colin Murray show, largely because you could tell he actually cared about the football pyramid unlike the fella from talksport they now use.

However, now they don’t even bother with guests or a studio… presumably because they are soon out of contract with the EFL and won’t be renewing it - BBQ! (Bring Back Quest)

They don't have guests or Studio down to cost and running it as low cost show.

Sky would be better doing it and having a proper highlights with guests and interviews with managers. They already do 15 minutes highlights of championship on Sunday morning

Yeah Colin Murray was good, like you say it seemed he actually had an interest in it outside of the media darling clubs.

Does anyone know what the new deal means to us financially?

From what I’ve read the 3pm slot remains blackout so there will only be 7 x 3pm Saturday matches so that means 10 championship clubs each week will NOT be playing in the traditional slot. Absolute madness.

Worth around £2m extra a year per club? If it’s £60m seasonal uplift with 80% going to the championship (assuming it’s split 24 ways equally).

Now, will Waggott take that money off his ticket prices? (Narrator: He won’t)

Nor will any club

All that will happen is that staff get paid more, with the biggest beneficiaries being the players

Yep, unfortunately so with regards players paid more.

It has to be a watch out though. We're going to be on TV an awful lot which is another reason for fans not to buy a season ticket, as if having the 4th most expensive (it was something like that) wasn't reason enough.

A lot of fans across the EFL might not twig this summer, but certainly after a season of the majority of their Saturday games being on TV, as well as all midweeks, quite a few may knock their STs on the head the summer after.

More money straight through the football sieve into the pockets of parasites and average journeymen players.

Wouldn't it be nice if some gave a bit back to fans in the way of subsidised season tickets to boost crowds and keep them away from being remote control supporters.

Players wages will go up (everyone else's that is).

Its recognition of what we all know---the Championship is the most exciting League in Britain.

As they say, any team can beat any other on any given day. I get bored to tears with the Premier League

Rovers will no longer be offering a live domestic streaming service. As they are specific about domestic I assume there will still be a overseas service on offer. This is the reason why:

Rovers will still offer audio in the UK but won’t be able to do TV. They can still offer TV outside the UK but that only gives a small income.

And allows it to be broadcast on IPTV worldwide. I'm sure attendance-wise, and probably financially, they'd be better off not streaming them at all.

Exciting, perhaps, but the quality is dire.

I know nothing about the costs involved, but presumably the club will be filming the games anyway and they will still be doing the commentary for the audio feeds, so maybe the marginal cost is minimal?

I wasn’t talking about broadcast & production costs.

I meant the club get £X amount from the people abroad who pay to watch iFollow, but they lose  more than £X because people in the Lancashire area watch it on IPTV rather than attend Ewood

I don't think I get your point Hasta. The club currently make the great majority of their streaming profit from UK sales and they will be losing that. Overseas sales are small, as you might probably expect.

Agreed. Therefore it’s no longer worth doing it.

By streaming it overseas, that allows it to be watched on IPTV in the UK, and IMO affects attendances. For the small amount they make, it will cost them more in gate receipts.

Lets hope there is no repeat of the ITV fiasco of 10 (?) years ago, where the whole league is left high and dry after raising contracts.

I do wonder if the games being more on TV will actually increase attendances. Certainly the trend across English football has been increases in attendances even though more and more games are available on TV up and down the leagues

Rovers are going the opposite way but I think that might be more about terrible ownership.

Youd think more TV = lower gates but just not been the case. Championship used to have very few games on TV but it's going up and up.

Anyone with half a brain has been able to watch every EFL game using a VPN since Covid, but again attendances still going up....

https://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/nav/attnengleague.htm

One of those things that might be counter intuitive? In 2016 100 championship games were on Sky. This year 193....

so go after the people illegal streaming it and watching it illegal in the UK.
