Find me any other side at any level that are sitting in 5th place with 12 games left and then publicly come on the record to state that they weren’t interested in promotion but to ‘lay the foundations for next season’ instead.

What even is this ‘club’? As it obviously isn’t a professional football one.

Totally ridiculous isn't it,beggars belief.

What do they honestly expect the fans to make of it?

No such thing as a "rebuild" or "developing the club" in this league hoping you might achieve something in a few years, you just can't do it.

It's all about the here and now.

It sounds as though owners/ management are working together on a project to develop the academy lads into saleable assets - but not reinvest that money into the squad. Not in January at least, even if the opportunity of finishing in the play off positions is very much in reach.

You can’t build like that. Good players don’t hang around mid or lower table championship clubs. If they get a good offer from elsewhere they’re off. If an opportunity of reaching the play offs arises you simply have to go for it. In fact being as successful as you possibly can should apply every week of every year.

Isnt the truth that the owners know nothing about how to run a successful English football club and therefore have no idea how to appoint people that do know. In fact they shouldn’t be involved in football at all.

You can hear the disbelief at the start of the podcast that someone who was on WORK EXPERIENCE last year is de facto director of football.

I couldn't bear to watch.

Was this question put to him?

They go early as teenagers before they can command a decent fee and the new club is thereby able to offer them an even better deal.

We've lost how many this way?

We do all the work and bigger clubs reap the rewards.

Its a recipe for bankruptcy.

Well he's obviously going to. The only +.... he's not Waggot.

We lose either way.

Gestede knows that his golden ticket to a long and lucrative career at Rovers is to go down the 'project' route. It serves him no purpose or benefit to talk about getting to the Premier League or delivering a return that can be measured in terms of promotions, points, positions, because all that is doing is setting a bar against which he can be judged in the near future.

It is far, far easier to instead promise jam tomorrow at some unspecified future date when the grand project will come to fruition but that will never be today. As long as every couple of years a player is sold for a healthy profit or someone else emerges as a project from the academy he can keep everyone going.

Mowbray played that game as well. It seems to resonate well with the Indians.

What is doesn't do is take into consideration changes in circumstances. Like the owners being investigated in India for dodgy financial activity, Court restrictions, Covid, waking up one day and deciding to do something a bit different, all of which have happened in the last few years and have seen the Mowbray/Venus project come and go, the JDT/Broughton project come and go, the Eustace/Park project come and go and now the Gestede/Ismael project come.....he's an idiot if he thinks he's getting years and years to build some grand project and that's before the instatiable appetite of the owners and their minions to sell our assets off wherever they can.

There cannot be a project or long term plan in these conditions.

The only route to success we had was on a Eustace or similar type galvanising the squad and forging a strong team and unit out of experienced signings blended with the remaining tight knit dressing room we had last summer. The spine of a solid side added to with valuable experience in Batth and Weimann etc.

They made sure that wasn't going to be allowed to work and having gone close to the play-offs twice in the last three years they need to quickly dismantle the rest of this squad otherwise we might go close again. All that serves to do is put pressure on them to spend or do something remotely ambitious in January which they don't want.

Said I'd do a summary for those who don't want to watch it but might be interested in knowing, so here goes:

10:15 - Rudy is asked why Eustace left. He said he doesn't know the exact reason why, but was told it was for personal reasons, to be closer to home. He then says he heard it was for some other reason, but that he believes it was for personal reasons.

He doesn't seem to be in the loop, does he?

27:25 - Natalie asks him where the money is from Wharton and Szmodics and how was it reinvested into the squad. He says we spent around £5m across the summer and January and that was our budget almost done.

He says the club could have communicated better their plans for next season with the fans, and that the fans may have then understood that the club did not plan to spend in January to push for a play off place.

He states that the plan was to build step by step, to lay the foundations for next season. If we made the play offs this season, he said this would be fantastic but that it was not the main aim at the start of the season.

Jam tomorrow? Just think...there we all are getting excited about us sitting 5th place in January. Eustace appears reasonably excited, the players reasonably excited. Eustace publicly states that he and the players want quality to come in. Plenty of us are thinking 'maybe, just maybe this time'. Yet this lot upstairs appear to have had no thought about promotion. An insult to all of us.

They let Eustace go and brought in a manager with NEXT season's championship 'rebuild' in mind, whilst sitting 5th!

Next season, folks. Don't worry. Actually, make it two seasons. We're building. Foundations, guys. Foundations. Bollocks.

Mowbray was also building seven years ago. That's not on Gestede, but we have heard this for many years. This is going to be some mega project when it's complete. A project to rival all projects. Tossers.

31:50 - Natalie states that there is a disconnect between the £30m bought in and the £5m spent on new signings. The fans want that money reinvested, but you're (Rudy) saying Blackburn need that money to sustain:

Rudy:

It's not the plan at the start of the season that we are going to reinvest the money coming in straight into transfers. That's not the plan. We want to develop our own players, to buy cheaper players that have resale value, like we did with Szmodics.

That's the model of the club. The plan of the club is not to spend money to go back to the Premier League and to win the Premier League again. Step by step we're developing the club again. We've got good foundations. We need the fans onboard".

Firstly, if somebody has told you that we are unhappy because we want Venky's to win us a second Premier League title, Rudy, know that they are lying and have an agenda. No Rovers fan is asking for that.

That aside, the ambition of this hierarchy is clear to see. Sell players, stay in the Division. What else can be said? Nobody mention the Brighton or Brentford model again. There appears to be no intent to do what those clubs have done here.

The Academy route, IMO, is nothing but a cheap, money saving exercise, as Big Sam subtly suggests at one stage of this interview.

32:43 - Rudy reiterates the need to better communicate plans for the club with the fans so that we can understand:

"If we are in the play offs next season, or even this season, that is fantastic. But that's not the first aim. We want to develop the club and make sure when we bring in a player that he's got resale value. That's how we're going to operate going forward.

Then, when we've got more money coming in the business and we break even with the revenue and everything, then we can start to go higher and higher".

Ah. A few more years, folks. I'm sorry, but everybody needs to relax and be patient.

40:38 - Rudy on minutes for Academy players:

"Last season we only gave 142 minutes to Academy players under John Eustace. The plan for our squad is to give as much as we can. The year before that it was 2,000 minutes for our Academy players and almost 3,000 minutes the year before that. So, now we want to go back to those numbers".

Seriously? Who gives a toss about that? It means nothing. The cream will always make it. Win us football matches. Win us promotion. Again, Big Sam says something like the Academy players should be a supplementary element, not the main focus of building a team. Sam knows the score and he knows you don't get anywhere by just focusing on kids.

47:00 - Fantastic point from Natalie. She says, Venky's bought a club in the Premier League with incredible history and during their tenure the club has just gone down and down.

"What is down?" Rudy asks sharply. "Because we are in Championship fighting for play offs. I'm not sure it's that 'down'."

Tell me you know nothing about the the last 15 years, or the stature and standards of Blackburn Rovers, without telling me you don't know about the last 15 years, or the stature and standards of Blackburn Rovers.

Finally, Big Sam makes an important point to him:

47:45 - "if you get in the play offs this year or next, you have to win it. If you don't do that, you won't get there again".

If this lot think they can wing a promotion somehow whilst just being bothered with player development and saving the owners money, then they have to be the most deluded set of individuals in European football.

Despite everything Rudy has said here, my issue isn't really with him. He's the one facing the flak, when it should be Pasha out there answering questions.

There are similarities here between Gestede and Broughton for me. The issues back then with Broughton and now with Gestede are the same, in my view. Those further up the chain.

Really appreciate you posting this, i've still not watched it and now I probably won't bother.

The aim is purely to use the academy to develop players, only to sell them in the future, which in turn stops the owners having to put any money into the club. Results are secondary.

Absolutely zero ambition and it's all just to stop Venky's having to fund us.

Season ticket sales are going to tank spectacularly.

Season ticket sales are going to derail the plan I think and hope.

If we've seen what they're offering and don't buy it then something has to change.

In my eyes, excruciating to watch and a car crash of an interview.

IMO, Gestede is way, way out of his depth - seriously lacking in Integrity, nous and credibility.

How can an individual who as a Rovers' player wanted a way out of the club after we resurrected a stuttering playing career 'preach' to the fans about trust and loyalty.

Personally, I see Gestede as arrogant, hypocritical and untrustworthy.

God help us if this man succeeds Waggott as CEO - think Rovers as a club will well and truly have jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.

Prince Andrew couldn't have been much worse!

What a lot of bollocks. Embarrassing to watch him...How is this prick being allowed to represent the club?

So a fan led initiative for the Burnley game that was paid for out of fans own pockets was refused at seemingly the last minute because it was deemed too much hassle?

Consulting with Supporters..too much hassle

Cleaning and maintaining the Stadium to a standard ...too much hassle

Improving the Match Day experience...too much hassle

RUNNING THE CLUB CORRECTLY....TOO MUCH HASSLE!!

They have no ambition to have the team competitive and pushing at the upper edges of the division this season next season or in the immediate future. What's the point of investing my time money and emotional involvement etc if there's no equivalent aspiration on the part of the Club?  Allardyce hit the nail on the head amidst his general "schooling" telling him that if there is ever a chance of playoffs and promotion by that route that it had to be taken.  The lack of immediate ambition to make playoffs leads to the obvious conclusion that there was a deliberate sabotage of Eustace's competitive chance of playoffs in denying him the help he needed in the Jan window because of injuries. No surprise then that he should wish to jump ship....

I can't accept that for the next 3 seasons minimum they are content to break up the experienced backbone that has given us competitive thrills and spills in order to rely on half a dozen Academy players in the 25 going forward.  I will attend on Saturday to judge the atmosphere, the reactions of the players and the crowd but will not commit beyond Saturday to support the broken regime unless evidence emerges that Gestede's outline of the short/medium term ambition is misapplied.

So, the Crewe model then. We aren't a football club that wants to compete, we're a hot house for talent that we can sell. A plant nursery and not a garden.

What's the point of being a 'supporter' when the only thing that matters is putting product on the shelves and rubbing hands together when it sells like hot cakes. What's that got to do with football? Surely just a Michael Porter business strategy.

Football? What's that?? Look at all the cash that's in the till.

I'm looking forward to standing in the pub in few years time watching Prem and Internationals on TV and saying "he was one of ours, oh and so was he, oh, him as well". Ah, pride, a nice warm feeling 😀 Great.

That's what supporting a team is all about.

NOT!!! Get these morons out.

Even that model is becoming more and more difficult to achieve. As we’ve seen the really promising kids are lured away before they’ve had more than a couple of first team games on the bench. Wharton would have been gone long before he was if it wasn’t for the fact he was a fan of the club !

The only way up for a club like ours with a mere pittance to work with is to get a team of seasoned pros and a pragmatic manager like Eustace.
