sharpysharps86 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I'm sure Eustace will be linked to WBA, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to get Danny Rohl from Wednesday first...OR they go for the easier and much cheaper option of getting someone in who is currently available....like Mark Robins or even Gary O'Neil. The later certainly isn't likely to get a premier league job again anytime soon so a top half Championship club is probably the best he can hope for. Quote
Mattyblue Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Not sure WBA will be going for a bloke just sacked by their arch rivals… Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Not sure what Corberan has done to warrant interest from Valencia or anywhere else. He's hardly pulled up any trees at the Baggies and they sit behind us in the table with a much better squad. Does he play football "the right way" or something? He was also Waggott's initial choice before JDT was appointed wasn't he? 2 Quote
JHRover Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Apparently West Brom have serious financial restrictions so that might put them off paying compo for someone else's manager. I especially can't see them paying big money which they would need to get Rohl out of Sheffield Wednesday (signed a long term deal in the summer I think). Terrible timing for them with games coming thick and fast...suspect they would be wise to appoint a free agent until the summer at least and see where the rest of this season takes them. Maybe a Robins or Mowbray type...popular, available, experienced at taking over clubs mid-season. I think a bigger concern will be Stoke. Inevitable that Pelach will get sacked soon as they slide towards trouble and their next 3 games are against Leeds, Sunderland and Dingles so you wouldn't expect them to get much there. After a foreign experiment and if they are in relegation trouble you'd expect them to turn to a British experienced manager. Eustace might well be high on their list and they've form for going after managers employed at rival clubs (Rowett, Schumacher, Neil). Of course one simple way to deal with that risk and that's to give Eustace an improved extended deal. Think we all know that ain't happening under the regime here and he will be looking elsewhere by the summer if not before with his initial deal already running down. 2 Quote

roversfan99 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Again incredibly strange to have the manager/head coach not having a say in the players he will be managing and ultimately who will determine how long he stays in employment. Football clubs these days. 4 Quote

Yeah, it’s like me going to a company that made components and the management saying “ We want you to make these components but we’ll chose the machinery we buy to make them with “. Err , no thanks, I’m off. 1 Quote

JHRover Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Just as we did with JDT and Broughton Stoke may will bin off the 'head coach' structure and revert to a more traditional setup, especially if their Championship status is in jeopardy. You'd be surprised just how determined some clubs and owners are to preserve Championship status - see Oxford making a change this week - it's only here where the owners sit back and let disaster unfold and do too little to late to stop it. Clearly some clubs think so but also factor in that clubs have been bought by Foreign owners but also we see more foreign head coaches who are coaches not managers like we used to have whilst these foreign head coaches are used to not being mainly involve in recruitment of new signings. 7 minutes ago, JHRover said: Just as we did with JDT and Broughton Stoke may will bin off the 'head coach' structure and revert to a more traditional setup, especially if their Championship status is in jeopardy. Did we really binned of the DoF/head coach structure when we have Rudy Gestede has head of football operations and Adam Owen as head of Technical development with John Eustace as head coach currently? 7 minutes ago, JHRover said: You'd be surprised just how determined some clubs and owners are to preserve Championship status - see Oxford making a change this week - it's only here where the owners sit back and let disaster unfold and do too little to late to stop it. I think Oxford should have backed Des Buckingham for longer and not appointed Rowett Quote

What you are overlooking here is the more clubs being owned by foreign owners but also more Foreign head coaches who don't normally get massively involved in recruitment of new signings. You might not find it effective or logical but it depends what their structure is but also what their recruitment process is Quote
Mattyblue Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 End of the day it was always going to go this way due to increased foreign influence. But like so much else in English football that has changed in the past ten years, is our game better for it? 2 Quote

On your question, it's great question and one all of us debate and discuss for age with different points and answers. I guess, in some ways yes better and some others no. Quote

Agree though that generally around the country crowds have been surging. Shame we've managed to avoid it. 2 Quote

I think since the start of the season, they has been quite a buzz around some Rovers home games since our first game like Drrby, Bristol City, Luton and hopefully the next 3 homes games. Success on the pitch is needed and a team that fans can relate and enjoyed watching. Plus I think the rapport between the fans, players and Eustace can be see here Quote
DeeCee Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Wonder what the police advice was regarding thousands of Leeds fan being on the piss all day in Stoke for an 8pm KO? Quote
