Rooney got the job cos the Plymouth's director of football Neil Dewship was his youth coach during his time at Everton So what? That doesn't qualify him to be a good manager I note Plymouth have won just 4 matches this season - one of them against Rovers Why is this not surprising? Quote

After the latest defeat I was expecting a fairly imminent announcement so him and Coleen could go out on the lash somewhere in time for New Year's Eve. Quote
Dreams of 1995 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Apparently Rooney cancelled a training game so that he could go out on the lash for a freebie. To make up for it, he allowed the players to do the same This style of coaching only works if you then aren’t a wet lettuce when it comes to match days. He’s hardly a Neil Warnock type of motivator by all accounts He is a man who used to let his physical attributes do the talking. Screaming and smashing your hands on the wall whilst you’re an unfit and out of shape 40 year old, often on the piss, doesn’t go down well with a squad when the chips are down Edited December 31, 2024 by Dreams of 1995 Quote
Upside Down Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Damn that's a real shame. How long till fat Frank gets the boot? 1 Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Stoke are gluttons for punishment. David Wagner has apparently emerged as bookies favourite to get the job there. 1 Quote
sharpysharps86 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Such a shame Plymouth didn't hold onto Rooney until after we play them 😅. Wouldn't be surprised if Schumacher, or even Ryan Lowe end up back there. Was a terrible appointment in the first place and only ever going to end this way. Typical that they beat Rovers though 😂. JHRover Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Will be interesting if Robins does get the Stoke job whether he takes Adi Viveash there with him. A lot of people think that his success at Coventry was in large part down to his good double act with Viveash and the wheels came off this season after Viveash left in the summer. Quote

Not many managers will come in and revitalise a team after the damage Rooney has done, but someone that a bunch of the players already know and have belief in will do them the World of good. If I was a Plymouth fan he'd be my first choice to come back in and try to save them. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Very good points. I think Neil Harris would be good here They probably go for Phil Neville or Leighton Baines Quote
DeeCee Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Poisoned chalice, unless it's Stockport County. His stock will go down, shame as he appears to be a good manager/head coach. Edited December 31, 2024 by DeeCee Quote

roversfan99 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 If I was a Plymouth fan and my side was just appointing Everton mates/former players then I would be fuming. Phil Neville would be worse than Rooney. 1 Quote
BankEnd Rover Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Great point for us. Hoping Hull do us a favour now. Quote

speeeeeeedie Posted January 1 Posted January 1 The BBC put together a puff piece for Rooney yesterday; BBC: Hard luck Rooney He needs to hang up professional management and instead run a team in the Cheshire league so he can golf and go out whenever he likes. Quote
Backroom DE. Posted January 1 Backroom Posted January 1 (edited) Portsmouth and Oxford's upturn in form suddenly making a lot of clubs at the wrong end of the table anxious. Great start at Oxford for Rowett. Much like our manager, his football isn't the prettiest but it often gets results at clubs that need to be more than the sum of their parts. Edited January 1 by DE. Backroom DE. Posted January 1 Backroom Posted January 1 We still have a game in hand on WBA and Boro, but when you're in 5th/6th position a run of 2 points from 12 will usually drop you out of the playoff places. We've overachieved so far, so I won't be critical, but without some backing in January we'll likely have to settle for mid table in the end. That would still be a good achievement considering the squad, but still a shame when it's clear the manager doesn't need that much more to keep us competing for those playoff positions. 5 Quote
