your not surprised surprisingly...

go on I will bite ..1 game into the season ain't surprising why

Like I have already Abbey, I worked with several PNE fans, all are STH and were there on Friday night. They weren't happy about Lowe still be there and wanted a change of head coach/manager last season, his tactics, his lack of plan B, etc. Also add to that this summer lack of transfer and investment of the squad, then add Friday night poor performance

A keeper who commands his box and organises his defence would help Tony.

It would Andy but looking at Derby's goals on Friday they were virtually free headers particularly the second one where the Derby player didn't have to jump. Watching how we set up for corners we go man for man which means somebody isn't doing their job by allowing unchallenged headers. This is usually done by the set piece coach who will tell our players who to mark.

Think it was mentioned somewhere that when defending corners Eustace wants 4 players who are good in the air and can attack the ball. Think we had Hyam, Carter and Mak against Derby. The rest are fairly shite. Add in a less than convincing GK and it’s no wonder we are susceptible.

Don’t think it was a coincidence that when Big Mak went off we conceded from 2 corners. Eustace used to praise Gally for the job he did defending corners.

Trouble is, the modern way is not to watch the ball, it’s to stay with ‘your’ man and do anything possible to stop him getting a header in. Legally or illegally, it doesn’t seem to matter. There’s usually three or four cases of assault every time a corner comes over which the authorities choose to ignore. Maybe we just need to toughen up a bit.

a bad goalkeeper tends to make the centre backs nervous, think thats what happened on friday,it should be the keepers job to make sure everyone is marking someone,a big commanding goalie is worth 10/15 points a season, best two at dealing with set pieces were friedel and gennoe,we very rarely conceded when they were in the nets,it`s the utmost priority we get a decent goalkeeper imo

According to CEO Peter Ridsdale on Radio Lancs, Lowe came into work this morning and tendered his resignation. I think the fans' dislike of him, including all the stuff on social media, got to him and his family. So not the club's fault. They didn't sack him.

Best for all concerned.

Pulling some of the dwarves out of the box and putting them on the halfway line might help as well.

Assault might be a bit of an exaggeration but you will always see players grabbing hold of each other and shirt pulling etc.

It's amazing that half of all corners don't result in a penalty.

Soft refereeing.

Lots of us want Dolan in the centre circle when we are defending a corner. Surely he's more use there.

Probably 4 to be fair, depending on the score

Absolute basic tactics that are beyond modern football coaches.

Maybe the data doesn't support it 🙄

Who is Dolan outrunning?

Dolan doesn't have to outrun anyone. The attacking team will bring people back to mark them. Unless they are losing, and in injury time.

No surprised to see Lowe has gone at PNE. Writing as been on the wall for ages. A lot of fans have been unhappy for while there. I don't understand why you allow Lowe all pre season and bring in a couple of signings, now you get rid. Fans booed at half time and full time. My PNE supporting work colleagues/ friends wanted him half way last season.

As for replacements, I think they will look at out of work head coach, someone like Gary Rowett or Gareth Ainsowrth. If you were for a in work head coach, I would look at Ruben Selles at Reading, Michael Skubala at Lincoln or Scott Lindsey at Crawley.

Yes we did. I know the fan base weren't happy about Lowe still being there, his tactics and his lack of plan B

I think Eustace said post match he wasn't happy with us conceded from set pieces and for me, We need a specialist set pieces appointment

Not sure I agree with you here. Rowett would be safe pair of hands if you ambition is just to stay up and little investment. I think they need to play different tactical and formation wise cos looking at their squad, they are set up to play 3 at the back

I thought our assistant manager was a set piece specialist? Or 1 of the staff JE brought in anyway?

After the first round of games, all we know is Plymouth, Norwich, Luton, Derby and PNE have all started terribly...

Portsmouth and Oxford got really good results so we handled the Derby newly promoted club bounce very well.

Luton seem to be really short of numbers, they were absolutely no match for Burnley and if they don't get recruitment right then they'll likely have a season of mid table football ahead of them.

Burnley will equally face much tougher sides, but I suspect that they've got a squad more than capable of finishing top 2, and so they should really with the money spent over the last 2 years. Anything less than that for them should be considered a disappointment.

Agree, getting relegated with Luton (1st season in the top flight) and Sheffield United (with a 2 point deduction and transfer ban) means Burnley should really clean up in the top 2, alongside Leeds. Especially given what they've spent and looking at their bench.

Hopefully someone pips them to it, but can't see them falling out the top 6 regardless.

  • Moderation Lead

I think all this was summed up by Leeds having a bid rejected the other day, which was more than we'd ever spent on a player....

Not the “ D” word ! One long time poster on here blew his top and bailed out when I described some of our players as “ short arses “. I thought it was fair comment given I’m only 5’8” on a good day !  I’d definitely be on the half way line as I was short but quick.
