Popular Post Neal
Here's my review of the game from the home stand. Really enjoyed that ground, sat next to terrace houses, a proper stadium in the community with good fans. What football is all about. Not another breeze block bowl with no soul. They also don't like Burnley and seemingly hate Wrexham. I hope they do well. I was sat near the dugout and could hear a lot of what was said. John Eustace is an absolute savage on the quiet, he bollocked one of the back room staff for not getting water to players quick enough and for sitting watching the game, he also gave some of the players very stern instructions. He comes across quite mild mannered in interviews but it seems he's a very serious and demanding person. I've always viewed him as potentially a bit of a Waggot yes man but tonight I certainly seen a side of him which I like, he does not fuck about, he sets standards, he has expectations and he wants them met. After the game he kept Trav, JRC, Gueye, Dolan, Hyam and Vale on the pitch and they did timed runs with the conditioning coach, presumably to make up the distance. Vale was absolutely fucked. There seems to be some seriously high fitness standards set by the manager. On the game, I think its harsh to assess it in a serious manner as they had so many kids playing, it did seem more like a pre season friendly. I was chatting to the county fans behind me and felt sympathy for some of their players because they were run ragged and just couldn't get the ball. It was worlds apart to be honest. Brittain looked extremely sharp, very quick, passing immaculate. Batth, bloody hell I didn't realise how big he is, he's absolutely massive. Bucky ran it but he had the time to control the game, easy for him really but a good confidence booster for him. Was a good game for Ohashi. He wasn't given time on the ball by county players and got found out a few times with his awareness, you can tell he's used to having more time to make decisions in the J league. His first touch can be a bit sloppy but he's definitely got ability and a lot of graft. He will score goals purely from chasing and pressing players, was unlucky with a thunderous effort of the woodwork. Will be an asset to us the season, will run his balls off. Gueye is going to be a real problem for a lot of defenders, quick, strong, wirey but demanding of the midfielders to give him the distribution he wants. Unlucky with a shot across goal and a good save from the their keeper, good finish from the corner, I think he will be a real gem. I can see why Eustace brought Weimann in, he will be player that can come in and do a solid job in a number of positions. Sort of an experienced player that's a managers dream. Will be useful throughout the season. Small mention to Duru, very quick, looked promising but wasn't tested that much. Another that might benefit from a loan but could be useful as cover. Nothing much else to report but a very enjoyable night. A good confidence booster and perfect for competitive match fitness. Good luck to County. Top club. roversfan99
Ohashi is a player that in these very early days is someone that is difficult to figure out. Unsure if some of it is down to rustiness or nerves but he is often really scruffy when the ball is played to him, it regularly bounced off him tonight against poor opposition, he lost the ball and failed to make it stick on a number of occasions. But he is a constant pest and has already shown 2 different types of finishes, the lovely dink v Derby and today a very clever header of which he did score a few of apparently in Japan. His ball across for Vale's goal was really good and he was very unlucky with his shot that hit the woodwork. Hopefully he will become a bit more refined as he gets up to speed with English football and be able to continue to be prominent in games as the opposition increases in quality. Gueye seems a bit more of a straightforward player to read. Clever movement but again his technical side is certainly not his strong side, really snatched at a chance again following Ohashi hitting the woodwork. Also had another shot which he connected with better well saved. But we got a glimpse of what can happen if the ball is hung up in the air and he also looks very involved in general play. Weimann out of the 3 is the one that is understandably the least spoke about but he is a very intelligent player even past his peak. I wonder who will likely play at the weekend. Gueye is an obvious pick as is Szmodics if nothing happens on the transfer front. I would like Weimann to stay in and struggle to see a Rovers team without JRC in it but equally Dolan would be harsh to drop after his goal v Derby.

WacoRover
Driving back home from Surfside, Texas, during the game, I appreciate all the good comments, guys. No doubt, Rovers are stronger up front. Yuki, Gueye, Weimann, & Mak, Rovers might’ve hit Paydirt using the shotgun approach. Pick up enough players, one or two are bound to pan out. Now, hopefully be ready for Carrow Road this weekend.

Can't say I've noticed many doing it to that standard immediately after a game. They were hanging off advertising boards. My mate with me tonight is an internationally competitive runner, he can do 10k in sub 33 minutes... He was watching saying "this conditioning coach is fair flogging them here". Mattyblue
Aynsley Pears - 6 Had absolutely nothing to do - apart from pick one out of his net. Nothing he could do as it was headed past him. Jackson with keen insights as usual. What does that even mean? Surely pretty much every goal ever scored is because it’s been ‘headed past’, ‘shot past’ a goalkeeper? *Disclaimer before Pears’ bodyguard, M*B says this post is me picking on him, this is me picking on Jackson. Oldgregg86
Brilliant start to the season so far, I’m just really concerned with makhtars shooting. The rest of his game is exactly what we have been missing but some of the shooting has not just been poor , but amateur level shooting. It’s still early and he could be rusty but I have this niggling concern he might not be the answer we need. Of course he will always be a useful addition to the squad but so far from what I’ve seen he isn’t going to be prolific over To you Makhtar to make me look stupid Edited August 14, 2024 by Oldgregg86

The shot that came back off the bar came back at him rapid. Hard to adjust feet when it’s at you that fast. his first effort was fine, smart save by the keeper and then he scored a header. im not concerned.
sharpysharps86
Can't really judge Rovers on a game against a bunch of academy players, but you can only beat what's in front of you and they did that emphatically. Great to see all o the attackers get on the scoresheet. Ohashi really could have (and probably should have) had a hat-trick, although he was very unlucky to hit the woodwork with the effort in the 2nd half. He's going to be a really interesting player for Rovers, but one that seems to have taken to things well at this early stage in his time in English football. Could become a bit of a cult hero if it works out. Good to see Gueye get on the scoresheet, especially as he was unlucky not to score from the effort that led to the corner he ended up scoring from. Another goal conceded from a set piece though, which is concerning. Onto Norwich!

No problem, I thought the same myself. It's similar to criticising a goalkeeper's positioning for a goal conceded. Every keeper since time began was in the wrong position when a goal was scored. arbitro
An enjoyable night in Stockport when even the famed Manchester rain couldn't dampen Rovers fans spirit. I spoke to some Stockport fans before the game and they explained their selection predicament and, after having seen our team I predicted a big win for us, possibly eclipsing Harrogate last season. And in truth it should have been as we were utterly dominant all over the pitch without having to get out of third gear. Another pleasing aspect was improving some players fitness levels which will be really beneficial over the next few weeks. And no injuries was also a benefit. The only sour note for me was conceding a sloppy goal once again from a corner. I really hope this doesn't become our Achilles Heel this season as other clubs will have noticed this and will look to exploit it. Hopefully we get a good draw tonight as we all enjoy a good cup run.

Like I say , I’m delighted with his overall contribution, and I hope I’m wrong about his finishing He definitely should've scored in the 2nd half against Derby, he practically passed the ball to the keeper. The first half chance in that game was a pretty tight angle, but perhaps should've hit the target as well. His movement for that chance and for the Dolan goal was great though, something we just hadn't seen from Gallagher. As long as he continues to be a handful and other players are chipping in with the goals then its of less concern. The problem last season was that none of the other attackers where helping out enough in that regard. Ohashi and Weimann both look more than capable of getting decent numbers, while its also a huge season for Dolan to make more of an impact. Obviously if Sammie goes then the pressure goes up on Gueye, Ohashi, Weimann, Dolan, etc. to contribute to the goals tally. Stats back that up too. He does however find himself in a lot of goalscoring positions due to his movement and we have seen all of this already.
Popular Post Mattyblue
You don’t get number 9s on the wages we pay at this level that have the lot. Backroom Mike E Posted August 14, 2024 Backroom Share Posted August 14, 2024 On the finishing front, I always said I expected him to be a ‘Chris Samba up front’ kind of player, and it looks like he is! I’ll love him for it, too.

There’s a time for getting the ball a foot or two off the ground.
