The U21s record since the start of October is won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2, far from stellar, but not quite "used to getting beaten"

https://www.rovers.co.uk/Matches/u21?view=results

The U18s on the other hand have won only once this season and that was in mid September

https://www.rovers.co.uk/Matches/u18?view=results

The U21s are second bottom in a 26 team league, with a record of, played eight, won one, lost seven, to me that is "used to getting beaten".

I'd bring Garrett back in January and put him in the first team squad. Same with Markanday.

If them pair are the answer to the first teams squads problems I would hate to hear what the question is.

The question could be: Why are Dolan and Hedges starting ?

Gonna suggest, because Venky’s won’t release funds raised from player sales back into their replacements….

I'd probanly be recalling markanday, garrett and o'riordan in January.

Markanday I'd be loaning out to a league 1 side. He's got regular game time at l2 level but if he's ever going to make it here he's going to have to do it at a high level. He's got games under his belt now, a good time to test him in league 1 provided he continues in the same vain up until January.

Garrett if he's not getting regular game time then he needs sending somewhere he will. The lad needs to play week in week out.

O'riordan could recalled as cb cover depending on the severity of the Carter injury. Especially if we are going to a back 5 more regularly.

Starts today for

Markanday lost 3-0  - got man of the match for Chesterfield, although based purely on the result, it was probably a case of him being the least bad, rather than the best Chesterfield player today

Atcheson & Montgomery lost 4-0

Edmondson won 2-0

Eastham won 2-1

Michalski & Farkas lost 4-3

Honor won 4-3

On the bench

Garrett remained on the bench as they drew 1-1

O'Riordan remained on the bench as they lost 6-1

Gamble remained on the bench as they won 3-0

Davies came off the bench for the last 5 minutes in a 2-1 win

Not involved in matchday squad

Batty won 3-0 - Batty was "feeling the back of his knee", so was not risked

Vale won 2-1

Olson drew 3-3

Wood drew 1-1

Mullarkey-Matthews lost 3-2

Watched the first half of Chesterfield v Stanley. Markanday not involved much but looked different class the few times he was on the ball as he should be in League 2.

Hilarious that the Stanley commentators didn't mention him at all for the first 30 minutes until he put in a bit of a run and there was a begrudging "Blackburn loanee".

17 players on loan, wow. I wonder how many have a chance  of becoming Rovers first team regulars ?

The answer to that question possibly depends on how many divisions we fall during the years of Venkys neglect/managed decline.

Edit - 18 currently out on loan, Saadis loan team played on Friday night, then the rest on Saturday

Initially seems an odd destination on the face of things, seeing as Michalski is already on loan there until January.  Although makes some sense as Michalski is away with the England U18 squad at the moment, and Kahn's loan is only until early December

Kahn should make his debut tonight

Others who may feature tonight are

Farkas (also City of Liverpool)

Montgomery (Marine)

Markanday (Chesterfield) -  has been rested Game is on on Sky Sports +  Kick off at 7pm

I would imagine Atcheson will not feature for Marine having been called up for Northern Ireland U19

Starts tonight for Montgomery & Kahn, Farkas on the bench

Markanday rested

Atcheson & Michalski away on International duty

Marine lost 2-0 - former Rovers U21s Charley Doyle and Stefan Mols also featured in this game, Mols scoring a penalty for Curzon

City of Liverpool lost 2-0 - Farkas came on for the final 30 mins

Chesterfield won 3-2

Eustace's thoughts on Markanday being recalled/staying at Chesterfield.  Article also mentions O'Riordan & Garrett

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/24723419.blackburn-rovers-stance-markanday-january-recalls/

From what I have followed, which admittedly is far from thorough, Markanday’s performances are being misunderstood. He’s doing well and improving - holding down a first team spot and getting some goals, but he’s not blowing away the league yet. This is a league where Tyler Magloire (all credit to him for what he’s doing) can be a starter, before his terrible knee injury.

Interviews in the LT today with Batty and Markanday.

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/24725314.markanday-loan-proving-blackburn-right-future/

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/24724398.blackburn-rovers-talent-first-loans-first-team-dreams/

Reading between the lines, it sounds like Markanday wants to do similar to Gent and move on to be first choice somewhere.  So can see Rovers either selling in January or in the summer (after triggering his option).  Markanday will be 24 during the summer so probably the right call if he is not going to become first choice at Rovers, which is unlikely to happen unless he pushes on or unless Rovers are relegated (which may delay a decision on him until the summer)

Batty sounds happy to come back as cover/competition, but is out of contract in the summer, so that would obviously need sorting.  Given that Batty is 4 years Markanday junior, can see him signing a 2 or 3 year contract with an option to see if he can make the breakthrough.
