There is very few wingers out there now. Most wide players cut inside like Salah does at Liverpool or Kulusevski at Spurs. Markanday is in the same mould.

Merry Christmas KentExile

Also, a lot of players who would have in the past been considered as a winger, are now played as wing backs or full backs, Giles, Gent etc

And they’re neither good enough as a full back or a winger.

Giles did well as a left back for Middlesbrough, and well as a left winger for Cardiff.  Gent is doing well at the level he is at, but he is not a Championship level player at this time (if ever).  I was just using former Rovers players as examples we would be at least familiar with, rather than saying that they are wonderful players

Another traditional winger who was converted into a full back was Le Saux

Watching Markanday play for the U23's he was always at his most dangerous when he moved inside. He has a natural powerful shot. He possesses none of the abilities required of a decent winger.. Which games have you seen Markanday play that lead you to think that central is not his best position.

The burden of proof here is not on me. There is no evidence that Markanday is a Championship standard player or anything close. He has also barely if ever played centrally and even in League 2 seems to have been played wide still where he is being productive at a level that perhaps suits him more.

You seem to be basing it on under 23 games from years ago where even then from what you say he didnt specifically play centrally, he just drifted there.

Based purely on the warm-up drills he's the best finisher at the club. He just has absolutely zero physicality.

I just dont think hes close to being a Champipnship standard player.

Let’s get Garret back with trav out

He cannot be recalled until the window opens next week.

When it does open, I am sure that Garrett (and O'Riordan) will both be recalled due to lack of game time, but will probably be loaned out elsewhere, rather than used by Rovers this term (I am pretty sure, that having played for one loan club already this term, if they do play for Rovers, then they cannot then be loaned out elsewhere this season)

We need to find them clubs where they will play regular first team football.

Alan Wright was another but there were international class players. Most of these wing backs we see today at our level aren’t brilliant at defending or attacking. Some are decent attacking players but can’t defend to save their lives.

I'd rather he be of some use here for a month with us in a promotion fight, and continue to be backup for that style of midfielder when Tronstad or Travis inevitably get injured or suspended again, than potentially end up notching just a handful of League One appearances again.

I don't see it as requiring a " Burdon of Proof ", it is my opinion. The same as it is your opinion that Markanday is not a championship level player.

Technically we could loan them elsewhere (3 club registration limit) but as they wouldn’t then be able to play for them (2 club playing limit) I doubt we’d have any takers 😁😁
