Why? If they were pulling up trees they’d be playing.

These are pro clubs, not development teams there to do us a favour - flip it round, maybe they should refuse loans from us if we provide duds.

I’m with you, there’s no conspiracy it’s just the teams we’ve loaned them to don’t think they are good enough

It can occasionally happen that a player is loaned out to a lower league and struggles to make an impact but comes back to impress. We've seen it with several players we've taken on (Jarrad Branthwaite etc.). Though, the only Rovers example I can think of now is Keith Gillespie, who, I think, fell out with Souness, went to Wigan on loan in League One (as it is now) and struggled. However, he came back, patched things up and became a Premier League player for us.

Any news on Harrison Wood? Signed on loan until Jan with Annan Athletic in Scotland's League One but not heard anything recently. Presumably, he's injured.

Woods loan has been a strange one.  Appeared in the first 6 games of the season in league and cup, scoring his first senior goal, then had 2 games as an unused sub, and I do not think he has not been seen or heard from since early October.  Maybe an injury, maybe frozen out/completely out of favour,  I think his loan expires after this game.

I think Liverpool still like Morton even though he was shite for us.

Ayari is starting most games for Brighton. Maybe got one start when he was here having also struggled ar Coventry.

That said I didn't mind him and his cameos at the end of the season suggested he could've played more mins but eustace opted for more trusted players.

In regards to loans ending.  Not seen any announcements of recalls yet, but I think we all expect Garrett and O'Riordan to have their loans ended.  Gambles minutes have dried up in recent weeks too.  I think both Batty & Montgomery have been injured for the past month which explains their recent absences.  Below is a list of players whose loans will end during January as things stand.

"January" but exact date unspecified

Atcheson & Montgomery - Atcheson named in Marine's squad today, so his loan is still currently active

Eastham - named in Ashton's squad today, so his loan is still currently active

Wood

Mullarkey-Matthews

4th Jan

Olson

Ramwell

8th Jan

Edmondson

22nd Jan

I think Eustace can make a poor mans Travis out of him.

Possibly.  JDT seemed to have him pegged as a poor mans Szmodics.

I think either of those roles could work for him, but not so much the Tronstad role sitting/screening role in front of the defence

Playing the “ Tronstad “ role demands more than just physical ability it demands a great deal of football intelligence. You need to support attacking play as much as you can but you must never be caught on the wrong side of the ball. Avoid the temptation to run the ball out, always pass the ball. You have to be really disciplined, not everybody can play that role, you need a cool head. That way if the pass goes astray you are still in a position to halt attacking play by the opposition.

It was significant that in the second half of the Leeds game Tronstad had a rush of blood to the head, got caught too far up the pitch, we lost possession , and Leeds nearly scored.

Agreed, it's definitely not Garrett's game, he's about energy and bustling and hustling. I think you can arguably have him there as long as Tronstad is also there to cover the rash moments, but I think it'd be a waste. Like you I think he can be a poor man's Travis and fill the gap for a bit. I'd rather that (and further cover for the season) than send him on loan again and risk the same shit happening when some team decides they don't want to risk a young player in a relegation/promotion fight or would rather promote their own players and use him as cheap backup. He's too good to be sitting on a League One bench, but the right standard to be sat on a Championship bench for me.

(Yeh yeh, cue someone, think I know who, coming in to tell me they don't rate him and he's not League One level again, don't waste your time)

Charlie Olson getting rave reviews for his performance for Altrincham.

That loan seems to have done him the power of good,  Gamble (who was ahead of him during pre season judging by him  being selected in  friendlies) has gone to Fylde (towards the bottom of the same tier as Olson) and not really been anything more than back up/squad player

What is it with Rovers and centre halves ? We don’t seem to produce anything else. Give him a game up front, you never know, he might be great.

Whilst CBs seem to be our predominant output, let's not forget Adam Wharton, Rory Finneran, Harry Leonard, Nyambe, Buckley (eww). Potentially Duru, Tyjon and Higgins to come through. A few others who have briefly been squad players, like Butterworth, Vale, Mahoney.

Going back further of course, Duff, Gallagher, Derbyshire, Dunn.
