bluebruce Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Total side note, but this weird non league structure made me curious about how AFC Darwen were doing these days, so I took a look at their league and got momentarily confused...there's an Ashton Athletic there, so I thought I was looking at the 7th tier again...but there's also an Ashton Town there. And of course the 7th tier has Ashton United. It seems Ashton really excels at producing crap football clubs...or so I thought. The 7th tier sides are in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Ashton United are in Ashton-under-Lyne. Both come under Greater Manchester apparently but they're 28 miles apart. Not a lot of originality in naming going on between the Ashtons and the numerous Premier Leagues, maybe the same people named them all! 1 Quote

KentExile Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Robbie Savage talking about James Edmondson's loan at Macclesfield before last nights match 2 Quote
KentExile Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Starts this evening for Vale drew 0-0 - Vale played the first 60odd minutes before being subbed off with the game at 0-0 in his first start since returning from injury. Saadi - drew 2-2 - Saadi has now started the last 6 in all competitions, Its only Cyprus, and given that an aging Matt Derbyshire did "ok" there in his spell at AEK before moving to Bradford in League 2, I am guessing that it is probably on some sort of par with the 4th tier here, but he is doing ok for himself there by the looks of things. KentExile Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I wonder if Patrick Gamble may be the next to have his loan cut short. Has only featured 3 times since they changed manager and hasn't got off the bench for Fylde since October Quote

If we can get him a League One team who will play him regularly and aren't struggling every week, I'd certainly try to move him up there. His contract situation means we will probably look to sell him this summer and we won't get much of our investment back if he has only shone in League Two. I don't think he is anywhere near as bad as some do. Personally don't mind him as a squad player, but we have enough of those in his area at the mo, better quality is what's needed. Unless someone gets injured he probably won't be brought back for the first team squad, now or in the summer (well, maybe in the summer if Dolan leaves). Edited January 11 by bluebruce 1 Quote

KentExile Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) I think that due to them not being included on the bench v Middlesbrough yesterday, we can safely assume that there is at least "a plan" to find new loan homes for Garrett, O'Riordan, and possibly also Edmondson & Atcheson for the rest of the season Edited January 13 by KentExile Quote

I’d like to see him there for the U21s to see what he can do. Quote

Too good for League 2 (as predicted) and moving to a team in a good position in League 1. Going to a struggling side might not have been productive at this point even if he got games. My main concern though is almost the opposite...Orient are in sizzling form. They've won 7 of their last 8 in the league, 9 of their last 10 in all comps. The other game was a draw. He may have to be patient breaking into their team, as they'll be loathe to change a winning formula. That might allow time for him to lose his momentum and confidence. Early appearances may be off the bench, and with others having played so well presumably of late, he will have to shine to break in, which isn't always easy in 10 minutes or so. They'll be quick to judge (manager and fans) I expect. Ideal scenario of course is he hits the ground running, whether that be off the bench or in starts, otherwise I think he could find it hard going and the loan might not go well. If he can have a similar degree of success to his Chesterfield loan, but in League One, I suspect we might give him another look in the summer, although he will be in his last (extended) year of his deal by then and if he breaks in here we'll be under pressure to get him on a new deal or lose him for free due to his age. If he doesn't do well enough it may be a case of selling him (not for very much I suspect, maybe with a deal mainly based on a sell-on clause). 1 Quote

If we still had JDT as manager with his full backs moving inside to create overloads in midfield, then I would be more inclined to agree, but I would be hesitant to rely on someone playing in a position that they have not featured in, at any level for close to 5 years Quote
KentExile Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) Patrick Gambles loan at Fylde cut short, hardly a surprise, he hasn't got off the bench in over 2 months Edited January 14 by KentExile Quote
KentExile Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) Starts tonight for Olson - won 4-0 On the bench Goddard - drew 1-1 Not involved in matchday squad Markanday - drew 0-0 Chesterfield lost on penalties Powell - drew 0-0 Rumors Markanday is about to be recalled from his loan at Chesterfield and loaned to Leyton Orient in League 1, which probably explains him not being included in Chesterfields squad. Not sure why Powell isn't involved for Chorley, He has been a regular for them so far, and his loan doesn't expire until Jan 22nd, possibly he is ill or injured? Edited January 15 by KentExile Quote
Backroom Tom Posted January 14 Backroom Posted January 14 Whoever is handling the outgoing loans doesn’t seem to be doing a very good job securing the right moves, or we’ve just got a bit of a lull in the talent we have in this batch. Quote
