I thought he wasn’t big enough. However he’s as big as Alan Wright was and he was top class.

I would have thought Duru had 5 or 6 inches on Alan Wright.  Not the most scientific of methods, but just looking at pictures of them, Alan Wright looked to have the body of a child compared to his peers (not that he wasn't a wonderful full back regardless)

Personally thought Duru was ready to start, and could have pushed Brittain further forward.

Brittain is definitely not half as effective anywhere other than at right back.

But what made you think he was ready to start at Championship level and to move one of our best performers this season out of the way to accomodate it?

I’ve only seen him once but he must be 5’6” or 5’7”. Of course he could still grow a little bit.

Alan Wright was 5 ft 4 mate. According to Wiki, Duru is 5 ft 9.

Barely been tried there, and not at all I believe whilst in his best form lately. But I'm happy to keep him at RB too. A position we don't have tons of quality. Resting him occasionally with an RB sub may have avoided that injury he got and may get again.

That was my thinking, Duru certainly no giant, but Alan Wright would have looked at home in a hat holding a fishing rod in the garden.  He was a great left back though

Brittain is similar to Beck (albeit more skillful) - he's a very, very good attacking Fullback / Wingback at this level. You nullify what he does well when you ask him to play further forward. He's better as the free runner overlapping rather than the Winger.

As for Duru - I thought he was ready to sit on our bench and spell Brittain from what we've seen of him, but I'm glad he's going to get regular football. He'll be playing a lot for us after this season I think.

That's what 'utility man' JRC is for.

Shame he's never quite hit the heights we hoped he would.

I think Emerton was similar at a higher level.

The way JRC has played this season if have rather used Duru in that role and work patiently with JRC until he has proper full fitness, which he doesn't seem to have right now. When he isn't fully fit he is terrible. When he is fully fit he's a very useful player. Hasn't had any major injuries this season though I think, and hasn't been played to death like others, you'd think he'd be ready. Perhaps not quite shaking niggles though, and if you train instead of resting sometimes they just don't go away.

A managerial change which may impact Jack Vales playing time etc.  He seemed to be a favourite of Kettlewells when fit, or maybe just the best striker available to Motherwell at present

0 goals in 6 matches...I know he has had injury issues, but if he's the best striker Motherwell have, especially with what I've seen of him before...

Just not good enough.

A lot of that was attitude though, he did show glimpses of ability at times. Just didn't look like he could be arsed most of the time.

It does sound a bit like he has improved his work ethic, but he has probably left it a bit late in his development to start giving a toss about the game. Might eke out a lower league career though, perhaps have a twilight of his career crack at the Championship if he stays motivated. But equally, another one you could see vanishing into the non-leagues eventually.

Starts this evening for

Markanday - won 6-2 - set up the opening goal and scored the 4th before being replaced at half time with the score at 4-0

O'Riordan - drew 1-1

Batty - drew 0-0 - replaced after 63 minutes with the score at 0-0

Eastham - won 3-1 - Ashton Utd are 3rd in the table, have won 5 of their last 6, conceding only 2 goals in that run.  Eastham fared similarly last season in the same division at Hyde (I think  they missed out on play offs on final day).  Whilst I do not think he will make it at Rovers, It seems to me he is possibly too good for the league he is in, and despite his height disadvantage, I am somewhat surprised that he has not had a chance slightly higher up the pyramid.

On the bench

-

Not involved in matchday squad

Olson - won 2-1 - Likely being rested as this is a National League Cup game, either that or he may be cup tied as he played in this competition for Rovers vs Altrincham earlier in the season

Bell - drew 1-1

Wood - lost 3-0

Play on Wednesday

Duru - score/update - game is on Sky Sports +

I saw Batty play for Stanley last night and the match made Burnley v Leeds look like a classic. It was difficult for any player to shine in the dross served up and Batty was in this category. I suppose from a Rovers perspective the fact he looked fit is a bonus and his substitution looked to be tactical (although shifting the deck chairs on the Titanic springs to mind).

Predictably the game finished 0-0 and the match ball ended up in A & E.

I saw the Barrow v Doncaster match and Duru was ordinary (although he is a player I really rate) and was taken off just after the hour mark. I don't know if he was playing to instructions but he hardly got forward at all and having seen quite a lot of him I believe it's one of his strengths.

Also it can be difficult to shine in a low quality match As this one was.

Using Kent Exile's link from the previous page where Barrow fans were happy with Duru, it paints a different picture now (the link is for Duru as a keyword search on their forum, so it's got fresh posts). Comments now include:

'Duru found it tougher against fast technical opponents, he’s always going to look good when we are on the front foot but struggled when out and out defending was needed. '

'For me Duru was found wanting tonight defensively. To many times he was the wrong side of the attacking player and it was no surprise when he got subbed. He is young and raw and has undoubted talent but the defensive side of his game needs some work IMO.'

Early days though. And he needs these learning experiences.

Also worth noting that Barrow are currently 18th in the League 2 table, and Doncaster 2nd. having won 4 of their last 5.  Also, I the guy going up against Duru was a highly rated kid on loan from Man Utd (Ethan Ennis), so he wasn't getting ripped apart by a League 2 "jobber", and it was always going to be one of his bigger tests this season.

Hopefully he learns from it and can improve the defensive side of his game as the season progresses
