v Blackpool (h) - 27/08/2024 - 19:45 k/o - Carabao Cup

Recommended Posts

This week's big derby fixture sees the Tangerines visit Ewood for the most eagerly awaited game since the last time we played them. Overwhelmed by the excitement of it all, Swag has removed 10,000 seats from sale.

The injury crippled Stockport County who we smashed 6-1 at Edgely Park in the previous round promptly went to Bloomfield Road and won 3-0. Yesterday, Blackpool allowed a 4-2 advantage become a 4-4 draw at Cambridge. Safe to say, our visitors might have a defensive problem or 2 or 3 or 4... However, it will be a chance to give Jordan Rhodes a warm welcome back provided he doesn't score against us.

As for our team, Tyjon, Gilsenan and Leonard are all out injured and the u-21s are leaking goals even more prolifically than the seniors are scoring them so I'd go with something close to the Stockport line-up- perhaps get some minutes into Fadz and give Duru a start in front of the adoring empty seats of the Riverside? Bucko to skipper again.

Duru.    Batth  Mcfadzean.   Batty

Vale.           Weimann.         Siggurdson

                   Gueye

Same team for me. Not usually an advocate for wholesale changes but this is all about getting some players sharper and keeping the first XI fresh for Saturday. And in fairness that's a team that should be good enough to beat a L1 team, albeit there are a massive issues with the defence.

I'd only be giving Trav a maximum of 60 minutes too. Same with Weimann and Gueye.

I agree on Travis and Gueye as they are both likely to start at turd Moor. Only went for Travis as tronstad played 60 mins vs Stockport and we don't have that 4th cm.

Sounds like batty doesn't deserve a start but I don't think we can risk Pickering ahead of Saturday.

Weimann having missed pre season could probably do with a longer run out to get fit. Thinking at least 75 mins, same for batth and fadz

I’m same, dingles coming up we need our main 11 rested so I would go for a changed 11, dosent mean your not taking it seriously it’s about the mentality that counts, Mowbray put strong teams out in cups but with a friendly mentality.

these lads need to get minutes in too and if they are good enough for a championship  squad they are to beat blackpool

blackpool seem in a right mess, this would be a good time to give tyjon and duru a start and rest of few,not happy about the riverside being shut, for the sake of saving a couple of grand ,honest steve could have made it a quid for kids and a tenner for adult and drummed up some interest for the next generation of fans,i really don`t like that man,id`e sooner have a pint with kim jon un than have that  spiv running our club

Cant disagree with much said.

As poor as Pears is, most Rovers supporters Ive spoken to think Hilton is,at best about at Leos  standard. So a change of goalies is just not an option. Even at home against a League I side.

Someone just paid £1m for Wahlstedt. Nobody is giving us £1m for Calamity Pears.

Would like to see Rovers progress in the League cup, and will be going with my youngest (7) who has suddenly got the football bug. Not an easy fixture to call, especially with the test coming up at the weekend. I'd like to think we will put out a strong side, with the intention of giving it a proper go. And of course maintaining a winning mentality and some momentum is important, even if we all know that it counts for nothing in the context of having our heads held firmly down the bog from an ownership and outlook perspective.

I'd just like to enjoy an evening at Ewood, with the chance to reinforce new recruits to the Blue and White cause. I think Big Mak needs a run out, and the chance to notch again, to build his confidence early in the overall campaign. Definitely include some of the emerging talents if possible - these cup competitions are designed to ramp up the challenge the further you get, which is invaluable experience for raw recruits.

COYB! Let's segment that tangerine into smithereens!

Head Rovers 2 Pooliverse 0

Heart Rovers 4 Pool 1

Headlice and Bedbugs Rovers 2 BPool 3 with Sir Jordan of Rhodesia scoring a hat-trick 😞

Pick the strongest possible starting X1, bench a few after an hour when the game is hopefully won.

Can't underestimate how important momentum is.

Yeah - I agree with this. We are still knitting the team together and have a small squad. I'd try and keep 8-9 as recognised first teamers and put in 2-3 fringe players.

I would say something like :

                     Pears

Duru.    Carter     Hyam  Pickering

              Travis.     Buckley

Vale.           Weimann.         Siggurdson

                   Gueye

Carter didn't train all last week no chance he starts in this game and Hyam shouldn't either

It's a struggling league one club at Home, both Batth and Mcfadzean are going to be called upon this season and they need some minutes in their legs. Both should start this one

It's an opportunity to blood the youngsters, so Duru should definitely start.

I think the rest are either on loan, injured, or have gone backwards (Batty I'm looking at you) so it should be an opportunity for squad rotation.

There's no money in the Carabao Cup until the later rounds and, quite frankly, with our tiny squad we shouldn't be adding more games to our schedule.

I'll be there on Tuesday, and hope we win, but all I'm really bothered about is doing whatever it takes to be in the best position on Saturday.

I agree with all thats been said about our strongest 11. The only thing I’d add, is I want to see Siggy more. I still believe this guy is capable of scoring goals and helping us.
I say he gets two vs Tangarines.

Brittain & Gueye with an assist each in this one. COYB!

Another game where away fans can't pay on the day? For a midweek league cup game where there will be 20k empty seats? Is this just another version of pathetic cost cuttings?

People want to be able to make a last min decision a pay a few quid on the gate. Just nuts

I'm going against the grain here but turn out the kids and squad players,  let them have a go then roll out the big guns off the bench if need be.

I couldn't give a toss about who the next potential opponent might be to get Waggot excited i just want a fresh squad and result against that lot at the weekend.
