Andy Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Very poor tonight, I thought JRC had probably his worst game for us. Duru looked good, especially in the first half. Seems like the subs had the opposite effect tonight - we looked shitter once the changed had been made. Quote

booth Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Just now, DavidMailsTightPerm said: I totally agree - you could see in the first half we were the superior team - but the lack of effort (until we went 2-1 down) was inexcusable. Some players were trotting about like it was a friendly. All their manager needed to say at half-time is that most of this lot are half asleep, just have a go at them. An arrogant and lazy performance. 2 Quote
NeilInBristol Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Goodness. Well that's the cup excuses gone for the season. We surely can't be in a relegation battle this season now...can we?! Quote
DeeCee Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Confidence will be sky high for Saturday 🤦♂️ Quote
Old Codger Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 There were enough chances in that game to put it to bed, but we lacked the will to hit the target. Suicide defending returns too with a vengeance 🙄 Goodness knows what was in the half time tea, but the caterers need their P45. Difficult to take much of anything positive from that showing. 2 players at corners when we needed bodies in the box. Why? Aimless passes and lazy positioning. No cohesion, no cutting edge other than one four on two move that we contrived to balls up. The suicide defending though.. that was the standout for me. Oh, and McFadz warming up looked like someone's dad turning out in the Orphanage Cup after not having played for 17 years. Oh my, how things have gone down hill at Ewood Park. Sad 😔 Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 when you fanny about trying to see the game out with passes along the backline you get what you deserve imo out of the 92 clubs in the football league,we must be the worst at set pieces, absolutely diabolical am i alone in thinking siggy is completely wasted out wide,he does nothing, put him through middle,he`s got a great first touch and an excellent finish duru was very good, faded in the 2nd half but did enougjh for me to suggest he`s decent and worth a squad place 2 Quote

booth Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Why are we even backpassing it to Pears so much when he's a liability? We even backpass it when we've got loads of options going forward. Quote
roversfan99 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Terrible performance tonight against a poor side highlighting a lack of depth. The attack both that started and ended just is so flat. Gueye is the one that has a bit of pace and physicality but he is very unpolished. Weimann is clearly past his best and not a winger, Sigurdsson did little and Vale isnt up to it. Hedges was dreadful when he came on and Dolan and Ohashi offered nothing either. Rankin Costello is in danger of turning into a jack of all trades, master of none. He was so good at right back and has never got close to those levels since. Duru had some bright moments early on but is clearly very raw and not ready for Championship football. 1 Quote
alexanders Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Apart from Shane Duffy that JRC performance might have been the worst I’ve seen from a rovers player Quote
Valconite Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 (edited) Had to step away and cool off after that. What in the f*** was that. The impression I got from that lot was "why do I have to play a meaningless cup game on a Tuesday night in the rain. Sod this". Was a perfect example of why not to get carried away because we got lucky with the first few games. It is still majority the same set of players as last season. Can't polish a turd. The only ones that looked like wanting to win were Duru and Gueye. Also becoming a bit of a pattern conceding after subs / taking Gueye off Edited August 27, 2024 by Valconite 3 Quote

arbitro Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I was really hoping that we could use this game as a fillip for Saturday and utilise the squad. How wrong I was. After a bright opening we became listless, lacking in any real intensity and worse for me was too many players taking the easy option and not being brave enough in possession. It was so flat. I have praised Eustace for his use of substitutes this season but tonight he got it wrong in my opinion. Five unnecessary changes and a system change worked more to Blackpool's advantage than ours. We effectively played without anyone on the wide left of our defence as Sigurdsson doesn't have any defensive nous at all. I don't know what's wrong with Rankin-Costello right know but he looks so jaded in every game and it clearly is affecting his performance levels. We looked quite solid defensively until Hyam and to a lesser degree McFadzean came on and then we sat deeper and invited them on. Buckley and Duru were the exceptions on the night but if we play with the same lack of intensity on Saturday I fear we will get beat. Winning games is a great habit and tonight was a game where we regressed after the early season promise. 4 Quote

And without him bullying their defenders it gives them the confidence to come forward more. 1 Quote
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Tonight will either make them want to be better for Saturday or we'll fold like a House of Cards...... 1 Quote
Lancaster Rover Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I’ve said it on here a few times but barring JRC’s adrenaline fuelled run at right back he’s had more average games than good. He was poor for large parts of last season and looks so far off it this year. He looks like the player who was getting released, not the one who got an extended contract. He was lucky to get away with 2 very similar errors tonight before the 3rd which they scored from. Quote

Ball went direct and up the field. As a result, the football wasn't great but we conceded less. This season he's got us playing out the same way as JDT- with the same players that couldn't do it last year. Upshot being we concede 2 a game. Seems completely bonkers to me. I'm absolutely confident that Fadz and Baath will be of no use in that system. Edited August 27, 2024 by Wing Wizard Windy Miller 5 Quote
tomphil Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 JRC just can't hack it in the middle, he looks unfit and if he is he shouldn't be playing. He should be nowhere near starting on Saturday. Hyam and Pears continue to be a worry for that game as well, Hyam was like a big pansy in the last one over there. Going out of this early may not seem like it right now but cold be a blessing in disguise with this thin squad. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 (edited) Not good enough, didn't created enough, we looked a different team when we went back 3 and Gueye went off Duru, Buckley and Gueye were best players. Duru impress me. Blackpool deserved to win tonight Edited August 27, 2024 by chaddyrovers 3 Quote
47er Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I suppose the defeat could turn out to be a blessing. we will need all of our meagre resources to stay up. But if you look back at recent years our best memories are of Cup successes, going toe to toe with teams above us. No memories from this season to expect. Quote
Lancaster Rover Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 JRC can’t play on the turn, his awareness and decision making is horrendous Quote

That's the first goal we've conceded this season due to playing that way (and realistically JRC should have seen it coming a mile away). I know Pears has flirted with gifting the opposition a goal in the last few games because he's useless with his feet / decision making, but I don't think the style of play is the problem. I think the second Gueye goes off you've got nobody to aim those long balls to. Quote
DackDackGoose Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Just shows after a few injuries we'll be in trouble. we couldn't beat their press, passed it around at the back etc with no options and weak in the middle, Buckley is a decent player when he can be assed to find space, only one that can pick a smart pass and break the lines today, JRC was no help though to be fair. I think our 1st eleven is an okay champ side. worrying after that. duru could of done with a loan in league 1 really. but looks capable. In my opinion JRC's best position looks to be right back (or right wing back).. I'd be happy with him as cover there if we signed a decent winger who tracks back. Looks like Ohashi may struggle if the goals dry up. Looks like the new LB will get thrown in on Saturday potentially? also 5 subs.. never going to help. changing the front 3 is okay but anything after that is suicide. Quote
