We all are enjoying it and hopefully he can not only keep it up but get better.

Even people thinking they can say I told you so almost certainly didnt expect the Gueye we have seen recently.

I count myself in the told you so’ers now but his performance last night in the second half was beyond what I’d expect, I fancied him being a really good battering ram type player similar to when Keenan Davis was on loan in this league and would bully us.

Last night he looked a compete striker, goals, hold up, flicks and tricks, he won’t be able to maintain that kind of performance but he’s shown enough for us to know he has the ability

I remember you said something along the lines of him not being a starter but a battering ram as you say off the bench to cause chaos when chasing games.

He seems beyond that now.

Yeah only Mani saw something off the back off that famous friendly game 20 minutes.

In reality most of us saw something pre the Dingle red card after which he lost his rhythm and his confidence drained away.

A confidence player - the Sheff Wed header was the catalyst.

Ahhh Matthew…oh how I’ve missed you. Not.

Tbf , there were a few of us who saw it in him. But then we can’t all have an eye for a player can we? @roversfan99 was insistent that JRC was the best right back at the club at the start of the season 😬awksy.

Agreed. I saw a player in him….last night he was basically Drogba! 💪🏽🤣

He's the best proper centre forward we have had since Graham, and he could end up being a lot better than Graham. His knockdown for Wieman was superb. Every game he's come in and dominated the opposition centrebacks. Love the way he can own the centrebacks in the air centrally and then switch it up and beat them for pace in the channels. And he can pick the right passes in the number 10 spot when he drops off. He's beaten full backs with a bit of skill too... Having that many strings to a bow is so rare.

We need to get him fit enough to play 70-80 mins. He's such a huge asset.  Only thing missing for me is finishing but that's something that can be worked on. We should enjoy him this season as he will be attracting some big money bids in 12 months.

Ahem... Just call me the oracle.

I always think about forwards in terms of can they beat defenders for pace, for strength, in the air and with skill. Big Mak has got all four which I don't think Ive seen in a Rovers shirt since Santa Cruz. Obviously a lower level in the Championship but hes as good as you get in this division.

Just his finishing not quite there until last night... Long may it continue!

Some of his tight control ball to feet was exceptional last night.

Because Brittain's form this season especially defensively is miles above anything hes shown previously. Eustace has amidst a generally solid team brought him on leaps and bounds. And JRC under Tomasson was fantastic as a right back.

But as you have said on numerous occasions, I dont have a clue about football and couldnt possibly ascertain so much from 20 minutes of missed chances in a friendly against Stockport.

He’s got a good short passing game as well.

Performances like that don’t happen every week, no matter who the striker is or what level they are playing at

However, it was clear from early on that Gueye was capable of a performance like that. His hold up play, technique and physicality are his strengths and he showed them all yesterday

The worst part of Gueyes game is his arrival in the box. He starts the move and then often isn’t where you want him to be - between the goal posts. But I sense that is being worked on, as he has been busting a gut to get in the box at times recently. He still has work to do on this

He strutted around that pitch like a peacock yesterday. He was absolutely everywhere. Making tackles, winning headers, producing link up play and turns that make this sport the best in the world. He needs the other players around him to dance to his tune. It wasn’t quite the one-man show that Sammie often gave us, but it wasn’t far off

Just another warning sign for not writing people off too early

Yeah I think in our team night we had Pears, Hyam, Travis, Brittain, Buckley, Hedges, Dolan, Gueye who have all had phases of "not fit to wear the shirt" abuse.

Football is not a linear thing where players are always good players or always bad players (well at the extremes it is, but not for most). A player can look awful in one formation, tactical setup, team selection, but then very good in another set of variables.

Hedges is the one really singled out at the moment, and there is no escaping his play in the final third is very poor... But take him out and lose that robustness off the ball and carrying the ball down our left can have a lot of unanticipated consequences.

The transformation of Gueye from Bambi on ice to prime Drogba is one of the most incredible sights I have witnessed as a Rovers fan. Long may it continue

I'd say BBD transformation was way more surprising. Never looked like he could make an impact at all for a whole season but then started scoring for fun. Then went back to having minimal influence on games again. A real conundrum.

Gueye has always looked like he could cause issues for any defence imo, even when he was off the boil from September to November.

The Sky commentary I heard was talking about Gueye as the complete all round centre forward and the expert summariser went into raptures at some of Gueye's close control.

Points made above about him striking the ball powerfully and cleanly are well made. For a while I wondered if he had ever struck a ball cleanly in his life but now, wow!

Got ourselves a 20m+ striker...

He’s still responsible for the worst shot I’ve ever seen though when he tried a shot from halfway and it went out of play in line with the 18 yard box after bouncing several times

Or feel free to write players off or say you dont rate them. No point just sitting on the fence to be able to say I told you so. As long as if you dont rate a player ar any stage and he turns things around, you can then happily say you got it wrong.

Who sat on the fence roversfan?

There were clear posts of people disagreeing with you that Gueye was a terrible player. Had he continued not to score, continued in the bad form, you'd be telling us that we got it wrong - as you still do with Mani's £10m Buckley shout, or roverclitheroe damning indictment of Hyam

I don't think you have said you got it wrong on Gueye though - only that he is looking good but you were right to call him an awful player with no technical skills at the time you did!!!

Joey, I think that about Hedges a lot. He can carry the ball really well. He's also an outlet when playing out from the back, as he takes the ball out wide and can either go inside or outside. I have always rated Hedges as I would appreciate having him on my team

I don't think it is any coincidence that in the seasons he has been here we've by and large been a well-performing and competitive team

I will be honest and say I still don't think Dolan is good enough. He has some games where he is unplayable, and at times his turn and movement through players a joy to watch, but I think his press is so easy to beat and his touch too often poor, and so for me I think we need to move on to someone else and look to improve that area

Its not about specifically saying you are wrong, more not stubbornly sticking by your initial impression. Case in point, RevidgeBlue about Tronstad. But on Gueye, I struggled to even see him getting 5 league goals and I didnt see him performing as he currently is so I was wrong on both.

On the 2 examples you gave, Paul Mani never said he thought Buckley was worth £10m. Assuming someone did, whoever (and where) came out with that, it was clearly ridiculous. But it would be comparable if he did say that and continued to stick by it. Equally, roversclitheroe seemed to take a dislike to Hyam and even in the last couple of weeks implied that he shouldnt be playing for us at this level. So no acknowledgement that he is doing well.

Going back to my point though, if you dont rate a player, or if you do rate a player highly, go to town, dont hold back. As long as if your impression turns out to be wrong, you dont just stick to that opinion. The "dont write players off" rhetoric, I dont agree with. Equally, most of us though Cantwell would be really good for us. Hes been crap. So it works both ways.

Was it Mowbray? I dont ever recall it coming from anything public. Wasnt the context that scouts were at our games but had been told either we wouldnt entertain below £10m or thats what he would be in the future?

Either way, whoever said it was way off.
