It’s early days for Gueye, and he has to adjust to English football etc but I’ve never seen a professional footballer strike a ball as badly as he does. He drags every shot.

We need to play to him and get crosses into the box more. Where I like our wide players and full backs more into the box and created chances for him to score

I watched with Plymouth commentary, I usually listen to the other team's coverage to get a different opinion(and ours do my head in).

The Plymouth side weren't as dismissive of Gueye as some of our own fans, they were definitely wary of him. I agree it is early days, he hasn't had as bad a start as some are making out. Maybe needs to start a few on the trot.

I also have big concerns about him. Technically really poor and I wonder if he will even get up to 8/9 goals which even Gallagher got to in most seasons here. Just looks like a lump.

Honestly can't see him getting more than 4 or 5 with the way he shoots, and I'm sure I read before we signed him that he wasn't much good with his head either. We don't really play in a way where he'd have a lot of chances to fire a header towards goal anyway.

He's got 3 league assists so far and I think he could get into double figures there, as he has shown capability for an incisive attacking pass. In terms of goals, though... I'd love him to prove me wrong, but I don't see him scoring many. Other players are going to need to step up there if we're going to play him as our primary striker. Goes without saying that's a bit of a concern.

Their commentators wont have seen much of him though to know about him either way.

He has shown signs of attributes that could make him useful, he holds it up at times. But he needs to at least contribute a reasonable amount to justify playing time. I think a Belgian football expert who did an interview in the LT when he signed showed with stats that he misses a lot of clear cut chances and as we have seen is not a good technical player or striker of the ball.

As you touch on, the worry is that who is going to score goals to sustain us over a full season. Ohashi is the one who has shown a knack of having that instinct but they seem unlikely to play together. We know that the likes of Hedges and Dolan dont score many, Cantwell is not a natural scorer, Weimann was but he is clearly not the player he used to be.

I agree with your TV coverage comments.

I watched via ArgyleTV.

The EFL have extended highlights on YouTube if anyone wants more punishment.

They do show the goals from various angles.

I also like Gueye. Needs coaching with his shooting and someone to deliver decent crosses with him in the box to head.

Seems to be off the boil since his sending off and needs a goal.

He might benefit from some more creativity coming into the side when Cantwell gets fit enough as its not like he is missing loads of great chances.

He is mainly just feeding off scraps the same as Ohashi. I really wish we had some pacy wingers who could put crosses in, seems to work for all the teams we play against.

I wouldn't expect them to,it was a comparison of how they viewed him during this one match.

Pacey and tricky wingers, how long have we been waiting for that sort of player, Kehdra is the only one that has come close to that category. What we would give for a Brotherston / Windy, Scotty / Howard Gayle, Ripley / Wilcox combination.

The fact he misses clearcut chances and we don't create many clear cut chances suggests it's not going to be match made in heaven.

Needs someone closer to him to benefit from what he does well hold up and knock ons.

Strong player but the rest of his game is lacking. Seems highly unlikely he'll reach 8+ goals in the league.

I'm not convinced he's that strong, there was an instance not long after half time yesterday that 5'6 Bali Mumba completely out muscled him and knocked him off the ball.

I'm very close to writing this one off as yet another horrendous striker signing by the club.

He's held the ball up reasonably well in the past, holding off a defender at the time but I mean if he's not all that strong, he's basically got nothing to bring to the party.

Like has been said he was doing OK without looking like a goal threat up until his sending off.

His appearances since then though have been quite pathetic.

Sam Gallagher scored 3 times last season. 9 was the most he ever managed here (outside of his loan spell).

Nothing helps a player's reputation more than leaving.

I can't understand our lack of commitment to bringing in pace. It has been truly baffling over the last few years.

I didn't think he was as bad yesterday as some seem to be suggesting.

That said he's clearly not a finisher.

I'd be going two up top with him and ohashi. There's no pattern of play to the way we build up under eustace. Might as well be direct. We press in a 4-4-2 anyway.

It’s hard to judge. After a promising August he then looked awful at Coventry and Plymouth. But so did every player who started those games and those who came on at Coventry (which the exception of ACD). It’s a bit unfair to dig him out from two games where the majority who played were awful.

I saw enough in those first few games to hope he should be more useful than Gally was for the last couple of years

I think the opposite, recency bias has made people think Gallagher is worse than he actually is. Last season, he had a particularly difficult season with numerous injuries, but before that, we all thought rightfully that we could improve on him. He had scored 8 or 9 goals in each of the 3 seasons prior.

I dont rate Gallagher, he is very much low end Championship standard when he stays fit. But I am unconvinced that Gueye can even get the 8 or 9 goals that prior to last season, Gallagher gave us and that is saying something.
