Will defo only need about 2 to have a shout..

I had wandered to the Stepps yesterday when he did that run or whatever it can be described as and hand on heart can't ever remember a worse run in watching football , it was up there with ( for old farts ) the bedknobs and broom sticks scene. I've seen better on Sundays at 1030 after a belly full at Suttys.

The guy needs some time in the U21’s or whatever they call the reserves these days. If he can’t get any goals to increase his confidence at that level then he's not likely to at Championship level.

Either way the priorities for January have to be a striker and a pacy winger

The U21s play the same style of football as the first team. I doubt Gueye would shine there.

So why was he bought ?

We need players who can actually cross the ball.

Our crosses/set pieces have been terrible for a number of years.

It costs money for decent players and we all know what has happened there.

Our strikers will always suffer because we don’t play attacking football. It all seems very laboured.

We haven’t really got “wingers” who cross the ball in our squad.

I’d agree, if he was winning the crosses we were putting in and creating opportunities. He’s not even doing that.

Traditional crossing of the ball isn’t flavour of the month anymore. Ask Pep, he’ll tell you. It’s too much of a lottery, you may lose the ball. You need to keep passing the ball around until you lose it instead.

There is an argument that we arent a side best suited to utilising his supposed strengths. That would further suggest that he was a poorly chosen target by Gestede etc, but I would also say that he doesnt do enough to get himself into good positions, his movement is non existent and he doesnt anticipate things.

But other parts of his game are also well below what you would expect of any Championship football. I am not expecting him to be a technically gifted footballer, a good passer, to have a good touch etc but he is so poor in most aspects. Look yesterday, who was surprised when he just ran the ball out of play? He feels like he is a ticking timebomb in terms of discipline and he seems incapable of even hitting a reasonable shot towards target or playing a 5 or 10 yard pass after chesting the ball down. Not good enough.

To be a good header of a ball you need timing. Timing of the leap to meet the ball at at your highest point - and timing of the forehead on the ball to give you the power. You don’t need crosses coming into the box to see if a player has that. Being tall has nothing to do with it either.

But they do help.

I don’t think it helps in judging whether any particular player is a good header though.

I don’t think for one minute that he is. He’ll win some headers for sure but every player does.

We aren't putting in crosses.

Go on rovers.co.uk and watch the full game. There’s 3 crosses put in towards him in injury time which he doesn’t get close to winning. If heading is his forte, the one on 95 minutes he really should be able to outjump the full back and make something out of that.

Perhaps I should have put : we are not putting in enough crosses

I can’t defend that, my argument was get it on his head and let’s see, he couldn’t have asked for a better chance and fluffed it

I'm actually wondering if this is some kind of identity scam, thing. Or a terrible mistake, like when that taxi driver turned up at the BBC and found himself being accidentally interviewed on live TV.

Surely he isn't an actual professional footballer? Surely.

I'm embarrassed by, and for, him.

Can anyone think of a worse striker to play for us?

I can barely remember Chris Brown and my dad tells me Ashley Ward was crap.

Any other offers?

We had a really bad one in the 80s we signed from non league ( maybe Stafford Rangers) whose name escapes me.

paul mckinnon, signed from sutton utd, well out of his depth tbh, though in his defence,it`s a masssive step up from the southern league to the then 2nd division

I’ve just looked him up as he was just before my time and all sites have him playing for Trelleborgs in 1983 ? Random connection if true.

That’s him. I think it was Jim Arnold we signed from Stafford.
