Possibly reference to Ryo Germain who was linked with Rovers, though don't think he's in the Japan squad. Not sure. Incidentally, looking up the Ohashi deal, I see that the Home Office relaxed post-Brexit rules for player signings. There's a points-based work permit, after Brexit, for all players - including EU - based on club appearances and international games. Now, however, clubs can sign 4 players who don't meet the work permit requirements but meet a lower threshold, such as five appearances in a domestic senior competition or certain youth appearances. It's a major change, it seems to me, but I've not heard it discussed. No politics in football, of course. roversfan99
I think the 4 slot rule has been in for well over a year. There has been lots of discussion going back to when we signed the likes of Sigurdsson, Wahlstedt and Telalovic. Seems like Japan are playing tomorrow, regardless of whether he features, I wonder if he is likely to be in contention to start at the weekend. Obviously it is good for him as a player, and good to see our players recognised in one way, but any trips across the world may cause a knock on effect in games after international breaks. KentExile
Looks like he wasn't involved at all today. Not included on the bench. Hope it isn't an injury

Flying across the world won't have helped, think this callup came at a bad time for him.

Bloody typical that he has been scoring aplenty at Hiroshima, top of the J League and top scorer and yet not called up, as soon as he heads to Brockhall and could do with the rest, they drag him back to the other side of the world. At least he hasn't played. As much as I'm sure he would've liked to.

That was what was highlighted by Eustace in the first interview referencing his call up. And he came in to Rovers with a bang so I'm not aware of any evidence that he shrinks in new situations

Sure, I expect he trains hard regardless, but when you're worn down from playing a lot it doesn't matter how hard you work, you're simply not at 100% and your all round game suffers. His club boss is more likely to reward that work ethic shown in training, and to take into account his good club form before the last couple of matches or so. He hasn't done that for Japan so quality will be most important, and in all honesty, the Japanese national team would probably buttfuck Rovers. Not being 100% he's unlikely to have shone training with better players, work ethic or no. I never said nor implied anything about shrinking in new situations. Yuki's attitude is beyond reproach. I personally haven't noticed anything different in his play other than now he's starting and before he was an impact sub. Even as a sub he was known to make a few runs into cul de sacs and have the odd unusual decision making moment. The apparent differences in his performance could well be based on the differences in minutes he and his opponents have had. This could be why he appears leggy as far as I can see. His substitute appearances and his his 70+ minute appearances aren't particularly comparable

KentExile
Yuki is now a full international Came on for the last 10 mins
yellowsubmarine
Enjoyable cameo from him. Full of energy and making anticipating runs. Had a very good 1v1 chance which he failed to put away although it would have been ruled out for a very late offside whistle anyway. Putting it into the back of the net will have done him alot of good and put him in the mind of the Japan coach.
Commondore
I don’t understand what Ohashi is doing in the lead up to the penalty yesterday. He gets the ball at the center line, plays a good pass to Dolan in the channel who runs at their goal from a good position, but instead of following along in the center of the pitch Ohashi takes a few steps in the other direction before running towards their goal, which means he’s not there when Dolan then has the opportunity for a cross or cut back. He might be aiming to arrive late to get at a secondary ball, but surely that should be the job of Cantwell or Travis/Trondstad? As a lime striker Ohashi should barrel down at their goal as soon as Dolan gets the ball to draw defenders away and be a direct option for in the box! I don’t know if he’s coached to play that way or if he has too much of a midfielder’s mindset.
philipl
We are missing this lad badly. He would have got into positions Gueye was demanding Weimann to have been in but Andy no longer quite has it toake the speculative runs Yuki makes.
ABRAM ROVER
Not seen him in any photos/videos or attending games. He has maybe gone back to Japan to recover?
MarkBRFC
Makes you wonder if Ohashi is going to be the one omitted from the 25 man squad. Would probably make sense with us bringing in two strikers, and the fact he has been playing football non stop since February 2024. Would allow him to go get over his injury, spend some time at home, have a complete rest and reset, and come back strong and fresh in pre season. We need ohashi back in the team I'd be fuming if they left him out, he is back in a few weeks It should be Sigurdsson left out, or Pickering if he isn't going be back training till mid march
Backroom Popular Post Madon Posted February 5 Backroom Popular Post Share Posted February 5 My mate has seen Yuki in Starbucks today, he was sat learning English from a book. Said he's back in two weeks so presumably he's definitely going to be registered.

He gives us energy that no one else does, been a huge miss and be great to have him back.
