I was hoping this guy was going to be a proper pacey dribbling winger but from what I’ve seen so far seems to be another Moran who just likes to drift inside with the ball and not take on his man.

Hope he proves me wrong but isn’t what I was expecting so far.

Certainly not writing him off or saying he isn’t a talent but would have expected to see him take on his man at least once by now if that’s his game as was reported. Just seems to be more of a wide forward than a winger so far in my opinion which we already have in spades.

Did you watch the U21 game midweek?

I'm sure Eustace can get him knuckled down and he will be pushing for a place soon. Haven't seen enough of him defensively to merit a start yet. A few flashes here and there but almost everything went down the left yesterday (for obvious reasons) and the derby against a backs against the wall team was what it was and nobody else covered themselves in glory so no major complaints about him there.

It's early in the season and he's young so there's plenty of time

Wow.. amazed people are already so critical of a player on our side who is young, played 12mins of first team at the weekend and scored a hat trick last week.

Some people have unrealistic expectations!

From watching the game (that we won !) at the weekend he came on, opened up space, which allowed Tod to work his magic.

He operated on left, right wing and central. He drifted back to keep a good central space.

He made a couple of runs into the box and gave their defence something to be concerned about.

I for one am very excited about him in our squad and he adds pace depth and potential.

JE clearly bedding him appropriately.

Just to be clear as I think my original post might have come across like I was writing the guy off when it wasnt intended.

The point I badly made was that I thought he was coming as a flying winger who ran the touchlines but he seems to be another 'no 10/inside forward' that we seem to collect these days.

He looks decent enough but we already have loads of players that want to come inside from wide positions (Cantwell, Dolan, Hedges, Sigurdson, Weiman, Yuki).

My 'potential' disappointment is more around the fact we haven't recruited a flying winger than the lad himself.

No one has been "so critical". And its nothing to do with expectations.

People seem to be trying to figure out the type of player he is from limited minutes. I personally have seen enough to suggest that he is a bit different to the rest of the squad, we desperately need pace and I think he appears to be our quickest player. But I still am concerned that we dont have enough pace and am not sure exactly how quick he is.

We dont need this portrayal of our fans giving a player a hard time.

You can see he can beat a full back straightaway... it's rare to get that straight out of a new signing. Last new winger who came in and could obviously beat a full back is a while ago. Probably Khadra? So while he hasn't pulled up any trees I am optimistic about him.

Do agree that it would be good though if we saw him go outside the full back as much as inside. Part of why Saka is so brilliant as he can do both so well, so I hope mini Saka has the same approach.

Probably because that's near enough all there is these days! It's become how most teams seem to play, and therefore train their young players to play like. Flying wingers are out there, but there are far less of them than there once were. Even if I agree I'd like one (if only to mix it up a bit, let alone because we have a big lad with aerial ability in the box).

against Carlisle's youth team ?

And? You could see regardless of opposition he's nothing at all like Moran and he's not afraid to take players on. If he's not doing this in limited championship game time, it suggests he's doing as he is told.

To me ACD has not shown any aptitude to take on decent defenders. I hope he proves me wrong, but he looks to me similar to Dolan, deceptively slow.
