January Transfer window

So? That doesn't seem to achieve any more than selling people does these days. No matter how many wages we get off the books or how much we raise in player sales, we're always told we don't have enough money and need to get more wages off the books and raise money from player sales.

I am not saying it does the club any good. But it may be a reason that it is done. And that was the question.

I hope so.

I think we need wide attacking player with pace, a striker and centre back. I think 2 of those will be loans.

If by your own admission, you don't think we've had a good January window for 10 years, does it not seem a forlorn hope that we would have one now? Especially in light of the funding issues.

I understand wanting to have an optimistic outlook mate, but with zero evidence to suggest that will happen, optimism stops being the right word. Surely, logically, you know this isn't going to happen? Whether we need it or not.

I think we had a good one under Lambert when we sign Graham and Watt. Also good one under Mowbray in league 1.

We see what happens in January coming up but I hope we can move quick to bring in 1 or 2 early window.

Finding a striker who can make a good impact in January will be hard. I would be looking at loaning Ipswich striker Ali Al-Hamadi. Whether we can get a deal done. God knows

Graham I'll grant, but Watt was shit. I don't remember who we signed in January in League One, but we had high relative spending power in that division and the owners at that time were at least semi-serious about getting us out of that division. They've never shown they're serious about getting us out of this one, which is a lot more expensive to do.

And brings you a lot more exposure.

The one under Lambert saw us sell our best player for a considerable sum and just patch the squad up with loans.

The one in League 1 saw us bring in Armstrong on loan who obviously was good but also Payne on loan who was a squad filler and buy Bell who was crap.

Some low standards there.

Rhodes was never going to stay when Lambert took over cos he wasn't the type of striker Lambert wanted. Also Rhodes wanted out for the last 6 months he was here  He wanted a target man and Graham was that man. Graham was Rhodes replacement and can you honest say he was a bad replacement for him for Rhodes.

the same Bell that played in Luton team that got promoted to the PL and he played a season of PL football. Is he that crap or just not utilised properly by Mowbray?

If you keep your standards low it’s harder to be disappointed.

As I say, if you consider selling a player for £8m and having to loan in players as a successful window then your standards are on the floor.

Bell was played at left back here, his correct position and was crap. But either way, point being a window where we spend a couple of hundred grand being a highlight across a decade says alot.

Graham was signed and Rhodes replacement long term. He signed for us in the summer which I think he would have done if Lambert.

Rhodes wanted out and Lambert wanted rid of him as I said when Lambert was appointed Rhodes wasnt stay here.

Yet Bell played for promotion winning team and 1 year of PL football would suggested he was misused and not utilised properly here.

Like I said, if selling a striker for £8m and not having any fees to buy players using that money is one of our better winter windows in the Venkys reign, that shows how bad they have been under Venkys. And if that was a window you was happy with, it is low standard.

Bell was played in the right position but again, beside the point. Couple of hundred grand and a couple of loans = a supposed strong Venkys window.

It was good window for me. Rhodes was always leaving under Lambert and he was promise to spend that in the summer. Without going massively into the Lambert era, I don't think Owners and Lambert ever trusted each other hence why Lambert put a clause in the contract

Yet you say he was crap player but he was part of promotion winning team and played a season in the PL, So I suggest your comment he is crap is wide of the mark and wrong

It was a typical Venkys window. Sell best player for big money, dont reinvest. How that can be seen as good shows where your standards are.

One of the things you continue to overlook is Rhodes was always going under Lambert. Said this from day 1 of his appointment. He wasnt Lambert type of striker. Graham was signed to be the Rhodes replacement he was good signing here. Proved me wrong he did during the league 1 campaign. I can admitted I was wrong on wanting him gone during the early part of that season.

Anyway I leave it there cos we won't agree

You can argue why players left until the cows come home.

The fact is they left and we didn't reinvest the money, and we haven't done for a decade.

This window will be exactly the same. Under £1m spent and potentially a significant income (relative to the value of our shit squad) from a sale. It's written in the fucking stars.

But the thing you keep overlooking is we didn't reinvest the money from him. Sold a player for 8 mill, didn't reinvest it, not even in the summer as your other post says we were promised. Not to mention Graham was only a loan at the time, we weren't guaranteed to be able to sign him permanently, someone else could have come in. Plus he was 5 years older than Rhodes.

It wasn't a good window.

So sell the player for 8 million and reinvest 5m that's sounds like a semi respectable window. Not a fire sale and get loans in

Well Bells promotion and many games in the Premier League would quibble with that... Like quite a few players in recent times we didnt get the best out of him.
