January Transfer window

Hope you are right but we live in interesting times - any opportunity to bring in a fee and cut costs will surely be looked at by those entrusted with making sure we keep paying our bills.

As for Travis/Tron: I think any team seriously looking at promotion might consider them a worthwhile option (even at a few million) to see out the season in case of injuries.

Irony alert would be if we received an offer for Pears...

Travis and Tronstad have been so consistently good I could see championship clubs with big resources going for them in January to knobble us as much as anything else.

If their form continues I wouldn't be surprised if either of them got prem interest the summer. Travis particularly has looked really top drawer and I am sure bottom half teams are thinking he could do a decent job in the prem. Never thought I'd say that, but he's had such a good run it's possible. I'd actually be surprised if we don't get offers if he continues in the same vein tlll the end of the summer.

rIt's vitally important Travis stays fit for the rest of the season imo, he's developed into a fairly complete player, does the dirty work, drives us forward, niggles the opposition and is always in the officials ear.

Notwithstanding that and the potential disruption any injuries at CB will cause I still think the priority acquisition is a striker who can find the back on the net on a reasonably consistent basis.

If we have no injuries between now and the end of the season, we're just about good enough to compete in defence and midfield. If we have no injuries up front however we re still not good enough there. That's the key difference and the thing most likely to derail us.

Before Saturday I would have said another pacy winger was needed but keeping Duberry fit could also be crucial.

In an ideal world of course, we need cover or improvement at CB, midfield, and at least one if not two forward players who know where the net is but hey this is Venky's. I'd settle for one striker/forward who can register 5-10 goals before the end of the season.

This is going to be a stressful upcoming window in a variety of ways.

Either the owners see how we are doing and want to legitamely push for promotion with some quality additions.  Or they will figure job done, not going to get relegated, and do fuck all.

I really see no in-between.

We do another need goal scoring threat and a complementary squad player at the back imo.

We shall see.

Travis has matured into a captain this year.

Pre-match he put an arm around ACD and said a few words of encouragement. Clearly he's learned a lot from Eustace.

the latter i think, though it would`nt be a surprise if they looked at the squad, phoned a few agents and sold key players

Yes, Travis has been very good this season. It obviously helps playing alongside someone of the quality of Tronstad, as I’m sure you’ll agree.

Trav and Tron are both playing as balancing acts now, whereas prior Trav would be more advanced and Tronstad protect the back four more. Now they're both tackling, nibbling and if one isn't involved then the other one will be right in the mix of it.

Two "Premium" loans (almost certainly) guarantees you a ticket to the dance - top 6 - maybe more.

January 2019: Aston Villa add Tyrone Mings and Kourtney Hause to a loan contingent of Tammy Abraham, Anwar El Ghazi, Axel Tuanzabe and Yannick Bolasie. Same season, Derby make the Playoff final with Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Fikayo Tomori as key loans.

The correct CF and LW (CB, RB or GK?) - whoever they are, could actually do it. Cozier-Duberry and Beck are a promising two, let's double it!

Who those players are... I ain't the foggiest.

I do feel the upcoming January transfer window represents a watershed moment for our beloved club. John Eustace is clearly getting the best out of our squad and his managerial stock is no doubt on the rise. I assume like most managers he will feel that whilst he is being backed he will continue but lets be honest attractive managerial vacancies will pop up early in the new year and that's the test Venkys I feel will fail. The window represents a realistic opportunity to bring in 2-3 additions to add depth and who knows where the season may end. I am not suggesting 10-12 Million will magically appear but if we spent a third of that it would give us the best chance in years to at least make the play offs. I fear a couple of cheap loans will probably mean when injuries kick in we fade into mid table and all the momentum is lost.

I hope I am proved wrong and of course its the hope that kills you.

Brereton isn't even getting on the bench for Southampton at the moment, I wonder if he'd fancy coming back on loan?

No thanks. I just think it's what we need in terms of pace wide left and he isn't a number 9 striker.

It's been reported that Wilder at Sheffield United wants to sign on loan in January.

I wonder if Leicester City would be willing to end Tom Cannon loan at Stoke and he joined us. A team fighting for playoffs not a team in lower end of the table. Long shot

Giles was such an idiotic transfer, bringing in the best crosser in the division when we were playing Buckley as a false 9. Completely meaningless.

Mowbray wanted to turn him into Mahrez.

Stupid there.

Mowbray should have thought we need a striker aswell as Giles.

Sadly I would imagine Leicester's main consideration is how big of a loan fee (and how much of his wages) a club would be paying.  And Stoke will be paying more than Rovers (apparently his full wage is close to £40K/week and Stoke are currently paying about 75% of that)

That's assuming Van Nistelrooy doesn't recall him and give him a go in the Prem

If you pay a loan fee I believe that player can't be recall.

Van Nistelrooy has said he isn't looking at Recalling him.

This is where I’d be going with any budget too. Short-term yes but who cares if it gets us to the promised land.

A lot of chat about the mis-use of Giles, but he's really not that great - is he? He keeps it simple, if he has time on the ball he whips in a cross, and his set-pieces are sublime. Other than that? Not anything special. 23 assists in 149 matches, 21 in total for the 21/22 and 22/23 seasons. We neutralised him quite easily ourselves on Saturday.

Mowbray did a better job of neutralising him. He just played him on the right wing.

So much chat about a mediocre Championship level fullback though...tedious. Owen Beck runs laps around him, stick Owen on the right wing and he'll perform there as well 😉

You would play as left wing back or left winger getting balls into the box for strikers, but you need strikers who suit that

I read some comments from Hull fans suggesting that they wouldnt mind selling him. He had a spell of assists at Cardiff mainly from set pieces but he seems to have underwhelmed since.

Maybe the problem is the way they were playing under their former head coach and maybe the strikers that suit that style
