Now he is a poor player. 46 minutes all season and none in the league, being an unused sub more often than not, and a few months off being 30.

A proper scraping the barrel type signing that someone bottom.of the league should be looking at.

Bit like Hedges then?

I can't remember a time when we've ever had much pace in the side. Lack of genuine pace seems to be a Club trademark.

George Donis and Windy Miller come to mind. Not forgetting Tyler Magloire and Devarn Green, both reported to be lightening quick but never earned their spikes at Ewood.

Khadra was probably the last real pace we had.

A bit wasteful but always an outlet and always a threat.

Yep, Josh King was criminally wasted by Bowyer and then left for nowt 😡

That was entirely down to King imo.

He stunk the place out in general then put a bit of effort in towards the end of his contract when he wanted to put himself in the shop window.

Not for me, he needed to play through the middle. Handled and played correctly, he would have ripped up that league, absolute speed merchant.

Lets hope this time the gaffer gets backed in Jan

In play off contention with mowbray and JDT and look how that turned out

He had 2 players ahead of him who scored 20 goals plus a season.

Admittedly, we had Rhodes and Gestede scoring goals but better integration and use of King would have surely seen us make the play offs. Not foregoing that, Bowyer’s poor use of King without doubt cost the club a decent transfer fee as he was on record as saying that is why he wouldn’t take a new contract.

How would it have meant that we would have made the play offs, because he wouldnt have scored a similar number of goals? Unless the issue is using him more off the bench?

Bowyer was not a very good manager but not playing King over those 2 was the right call.

Let's face it. Bowyer was a decent bloke, but he simply did not have the CV.. Not to get into the play offs with that fantastic squad was an abject failure!

He was a real talent, his subsequent career and big money / big club moves provides clear evidence of this. Simply, he didn’t get enough minutes on the pitch, from the start or the bench and my belief is that Bowyer failed to integrate him and make the best of his talent. No issue with Rudy or Jordan getting the shirts but King was under utilised and in my opinion, should have helped us into the play offs.

Just had a look at King's stats.

Surprisingly he's still only 32 and still playing. The ONLY place he's ever done anything however appears to be Bournemouth which would tend to confirm my feeling about him that he had the talent but not the application or character.

But how could we have given him them minutes without taking one of the other 2 out?

You also couldn't have played him out wide, as Conway and Marshall were out-and-out wingers, with our style centred around getting the ball into the front 2 as quickly as possible.

Fancy, there was a time, not long ago when we had 3 decent strikers!

Unthinkable now---we haven't even got one of that standard.

The dumbing down continues.

Priority for me has to be a goal scorer in whatever shape or form , then a wide player who has some pace about them and after that a midfielder , I was worried before Travis’s injury that he and Tronstad had no backup in their mould , Buckley and Baker are more footballers than destroyers and I still think JRC is a better full back than midfielder

Bowyer chose Chris Brown ahead of King, which was ridiculous.

Can’t see permanent signings in the front line. Significant investment in loan signings is what I expect.
I mentioned previously Nathan Broadhead would be perfect. Ali Al Hamadi would make a lot of sense.
Emmanuel Dennis will be available on a loan from Forest.
Ricky Jade Jones could move on so Peterborough can make some profit.

I like the idea of Dennis, something to prove and has obvious ability. JE could get the best out of him. Broadhead should be the key target.

Last year Ipswich, who were near the top of the league and far exceeding their expectations, had Travis wrapped up by Jan 5th. Let’s see if we can move that quickly.
