Do you honestly think Liverpool are selling Danns permanently? And if they where do you think we would have the money for him. Danns is a top rated youngster at Liverpool they will have absolutely no interest in selling him on a permanent deal, and if they did it would be many millions they be looking for 3 Quote

RevidgeBlue Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Recruitment department really excelled themselves as usual this January, we've known about the priority positions for months and yet half way through the window there's absolutely no sign of anyone. What do they do all year? 2 1 Quote

What do they do all year? I know I don’t really need to explain this to you because I’m 100% sure you get it…. Disclaimer - I’m not absolving the recruitment team, who may or may not be useless. But, the primary reason that most business for the January window hasn’t been done is purely financial. Everyone wants the highest quality possible for the lowest price (unless you’re Man City). So, effectively when you don’t have the big bucks, you have to play the game. You can even put a £2m bid in for a player like BTA and Cov can wait to accept it for a few days whilst they call every club possible to get £2.1m. Most of the business this window will be done at the back end. We might have multiple bids in for multiple players (or not), but the fact that none have dropped in so far is unlikely because the Recruitment department are sat on their arses and more because we don’t have the 30% uplift it takes to tip the deals over. JE seems happy with the efforts which leads to believe that the work is ongoing. fwiw - I only care about quality. When we sign them is less important. 5 Quote

What do they do all year? Now you are simply moaning for the sake of moaning. You need to stop getting so flustered. Most clubs will be looking for a fast, skillfull winger and consistent goalscorer. At our level Sunderland and Sheffield United are supposedly looking for another striker, Leeds also but can't buy until they get shut of Bamford, West Brom can't score goals, but are struggling financially and Burnley have already brought Barnes back. That's five of the top seven, six including us all wanting a striker. In the PL, even the bigger clubs like United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton all need a decent striker. If you have more money than everyone else it's a lot easier to recruit new employees. For everyone else a million and one factors come into the equation. But you know all this already. 3 1 Quote

We'll have played 7 Championship games in 2025 by the end of January with a depleted squad. It's make or break time. 4 Quote

Oh give it a rest. "At our level" Sunderland and Sheffield United are looking for a striker - yeah, they've put matching £13m bids in for one! "Our level" indeed! 2 Quote

I haven't seen him play much beyond games against Rovers and highlights, but I'm not sure I'd call it a no brainer. It seems like he would eat up the majority if not all of what we have to spend, and he's never done much above L1. Okay he was young then and he seems to have added goals to his game, but we're counting on him being able to do it at a higher level. Don't get me wrong I'd definitely take him, but he would need to play out wide if Cantwell is in the team and he seems a bit one-paced whenever I've seen him. It's all very well saying that he'll keep his value, but there's not much cash around in the Championship away from parachute clubs or those who have just sold a player for big money. He'd need to be delivering consistently at this level to get someone to part with decent money. 2 Quote

As an alternative to Cantwell. Out on the wing (he's better than the options we currently have). There are quite a few possibilities. Quote
