With the Szmodics sale, didn’t Nixon confirm one of the add-ons was a set fee for each goal or number of goals scored for Ipswich?

For example, £100k for every 10 goals scored.

Have I made that up?

Yep, seems to be ‘oh it’s January, is it? Comes around quick, best get some feelers out’.

Let’s hope the window ending in February doesn’t come as a surprise to them too.

The problem with Elliot and cryer before is that they aren’t rovers fans

sharpe Is and you could see the difference

but like anything else if your employed to write for the club I’m sure it’s very hard/dodgy to continue to put them down without getting p45 in the post

but I do think he’s ‘too’ soft but seems a nice lad and certainly wouldn’t be putting any blame on him

I don't think it made any difference that Sharpe was a Rovers fan, he wasn't prepared to bite the hand that fed him either. Understandably so I suppose but no use to supporters if you want a "critical friend" in the media.

Cryer was the last one to have a real pop I think about Kean?

If you didn't make it up he probably did.

I can’t comment on whether you’ve made that up but Nixon may well have done.

buggar @Ricceh beat me to it 😁😁

Maybe I’m being stupid here but surely it’s someone’s actual job, each and every day they’re at work, to be looking for possible targets for every possible scenario (eg in case we suddenly have a higher budget (I know I know!) or long term injury to a key player)

100%.

As I've said since the start of the window we should have identified our targets, been aware of how much everyone wants, cleared it with the owners and been ready to go on January 1st.

We have a veritable army of analysts - what the fuck do they do all year, churn out a list of players we  cant afford?

From my understanding, the owners don’t have any specific, direct involvement. Rovers are essentially a P&L on a spreadsheet and Suhail is their representative. He’s the only one with direct access and is the one and only person with power.

The directors fulfil their roles in line with the legal and vocational requirement and present it to him. One point of contact and then a yes or a no.

This explains why none of the managers ever go out to see them anymore. Uncle Tony managed to woo them into the AA and in particular the BBD signing. Suhail, by all accounts is extremely un-emotive in his role. There’s no one getting excited in December because we’re 5th, and deciding to rip up the budget and spend to get us up. It’s cold and robotic. You’re unlikely to ever get sacked on the staff, but you won’t get a pay rise or progression opportunity either - hence why all the best staff are leaving.

We need a change. 100%

Explains a lot, particularly the poor staff retention and probably the Mcguire/O Brien debacles as well.

No way was Brereton a Mowbray signing imo ,he might have convinced venkys to spend a bit but I don't believe it was Mowbray that chose and pushed for Brereton to come in.Im going off how Mowbray spoke of his signing at the time and how he used Brereton in his first couple of seasons

There are four months between the August and January windows. Targets should have been identified and approaches made as soon as possible. Too many are falling for the official club rhetoric of it being a difficult window. Lots of other clubs don't view it that way and have got deals done. The only certainty in the window will be the disenchantment of many fans and possibly Eustace too.

And the latter could have disastrous consequences.

I think I am correct in saying that there was also a period of time remaining in the summer transfer window after Sammy's departure for them to get off their arses, plus it wasn't a surprise with his move being on the cards for months beforehand.

the minions at the club have been busy planting "postive vibes ","waggot is doing a good job","it`s not 1995", and "we are better off than we were in the 80`s" comments in the telegraph, they are so obviously rovers employees or telegraph staff ordered to write this inane drivel, though credit to one poster (who must have slipped through net) he called waggot a cabbage!!

The rumours coming out were that Brereton was absolutely not a Mowbray signing.

Arma probably was though.

Our playoff "rival", Middlesbrough, are splashing £6m on Whittaker. A bid has been accepted, according to our favourite resident Journo.

Some difference, we'll be lucky to spend £6m over the next 4 windows let alone on just 1 player.

You would presume that would be someone who had the title "Head of Recruitment" (or similar)

But, that person left without being replaced a month before the window opened.

The comments on the LT annoy me so much I've tried registering on there a few times but the site won't validate my e-mail address.

Anyone else had the same problem?

They signed Ryan Giles yesterday aswell

Rumours they will sell Latth but at least they are getting players In beforehand and will sign a striker if he does go

Wish we had Gibson

Yup! After selling Isiah Jones for about £4.5m, just two weeks later they're reinvesting the full amount plus an extra third on an upgrade.

How naïve of them - they need their old pal Rudy to remind them they don't get all of the money from sales in one go... that's only the case when you want buy someone! Right?

Venkys have reduced us to the point where we are going to be outspent by Plymouth. Ridiculous.
