We have lost 3 winnable games on the bounce and our squad is falling apart. We also have the Preston game likely with no signings and then any deadline day deals will probably miss QPR. You cant just essentialy forfeit chunks of games and it has made our play off push at best unlikely even if we do strengthen. it would be great to strengthen but in the January window, early quality signings don't happen until you are willing to splash the cash or signing out of favour players at club like we did with Dion Sanderson for example or Boro selling Jones and replacing him with Whittaker 2 minutes ago, arbitro said: Let's assume we sign three players between now and the end of the window. Had we signed them before the Burnley game on January 4th do you think we might have more points than we do now? I think I know your answer but I'm asking anyway. In my view if we had added some quality to the squad and had them for the five league games we would have had more points. And from that perspective the window has been a failure. who knows but do expect any club to sign 3 players before the Burnley game is very unrealistic. The January transfer window is slow as ever and you will see it pick up now in the last week just like always. Like for example if we wanted Bamford from Leeds then Leeds rightly wouldn't release him until they had a replacement in.

Nowhere near good enough for this level though. The problem with Markanday for me is the potential for him to turn up at Ewood, playing for a Swansea or a Bristol City, or even if (when) we down drop into League One, and completely tear us a new one 🤣

There should have been no reason to sell unless an exceptional bid came in, after the Wharton sale in January. We did not sell him for exceptional money. Once again, it was just to keep the lights on because Venkys don't want a penny of their money going into the club if it can be avoided. Sure he'd have been a bit disgruntled, but another £5m ontop of what we got wasn't unreasonable. The price we sold him for was only appropriate for a 'selling club'. He was pushing to leave. You can't hold unhappy players hostage - he wanted (and earned) a shot at the PL. We got very decent money for a 29 year old with a 12 month purple patch on his CV. We just didn't reinvest it.

Like for example if we wanted Bamford from Leeds then Leeds rightly wouldn't release him until they had a replacement in. So I'll compromise. Do you think if we had some new, quality players in the last three games (halfway through the window) we would have stood a better chance of getting more points. I don't buy this 'slow window' excuse. It's perpetuated by clubs like ours to cover up for inadequacies. We have had four months to identify targets and now almost four weeks into the actual window. Once again we have been let down by the hierarchy.
Popular Post TommyRovers
Our best moment under the venkys was a promotion from League One. The last 15 years have been a failure, not just the last 3 Januarys. Scrabbling around for freebies and low costing journeymen in a play off race while our overlords hide behind their court case. With next to no reporting or investigating from the British media. Sickening.

Popular Post TheRevAshton
Plymouth are about to sign a CB for £1.7m, Maksym Taloverov. They're rock bottom and have just lost their best player... their gaffer who's been there for 2 weeks is being backed more than Eustace, who's depleted squad has just dropped out of a playoff position for the first time in how long?

Popular Post JHRover
Let's go back to Waggott's book of excuses , aka his 'update' statement released last week, may be Louie Barry wasn't the 'right type' of character for our special squad. Maybe they don't want to endanger the 'togetherness' of the squad by bringing external elements into it. Maybe Hull didn't get the memo about it being a 'limited' January window. Maybe Hull were prepared to pay the necessary to get their target and a quality addition in the building now rather than p1ssing away another week or two haggling and with it jeopardising the season. Maybe Hull actually want to sign decent players instead of owners and a board desperate to hide behind every excuse going

JHRover
Nothing at all wrong with spending lots of money. It seems at some point to have become a negative around these parts, no doubt fuelled by an ownership and regime keen to avoid spending, and decorated with the old 'FFP' mantra. If you can do it and not break the rules then it is not something to be ashamed or embarrassed about, it is good and in theory will see you get somewhere in the game. Of course around Rovers so many have become indoctrinated with a fear of spending cash, created by Waggott and other charlatans employed by Venkys. If you are fortunate enough to have an owner with some ambition and a desire to invest then good for you. I wish we did.
