JHRover
7 minutes ago, Devon Rover said: Agreed. But, unless we are buying a better goalkeeper than Toth in the next few days, which is almost certainly not going to happen, then selling Pears gains us nothing and leaves us weaker. Any transfer fee won't be invested in the team any more than the previous player sales. Selling players now serves no purpose other than paying bills that Venkys should be covering as owners. It is a mess. And we are all being treated like idiots by the club hierarchy. There's a logical argument to say that it is better for us if every player leaves on a free. Every pound that Venkys have to find from their own cash rather than from player sales is, in my view, a step closer to them throwing in the towel or being unable to do it. Whilst the conveyor belt of million pound sales continues it takes pressure off the vermin. I'd like them to be under immense pressure to the point where they buckle. That's only going to come legally through the Indian courts or financially if they can't pay the bills any more.

Digging out a player sale here and there is more likely to prolong Venky's ownership than to bring us any form of success. If he was right what happened? I'm sorry but you are just making excuses up for the ineptitude and lack of ambition by the club. Did Pasha actually engage with fans, before the Pompey game? Im guessing you have not seen much of this season if you cant acknowledge that he has cut most of the goal costing errors out of his game and has had a good season so far. Watched most games this season yeah. Made a terrible mistake in the last game.

Did he genuinely do this?

Pears has had a good season and probably made less mistakes than any other player. As we know, a goalkeeping error is highlighted 100 times more than an error elsewhere on the pitch. Somone on here was blaming him for the second goal on Saturday, which is a bit of a stretch.

So far Championship clubs have spent £44.1m and we haven't spent a penny. However you want to dress it up it's looking bleak. Yes I know that but some clubs have made no signings so far. 3 transfers already make half of the money spent in Cannon for £10m, Jones for £5m and Whittaker for £6m. We got 7 days to make a quality striker signing, left sided attacking player and left back before the deadline day. I understand and agreed that we should one attacking player signing by now but why we haven't we done know the full reasons

davulsukur
7 days to go and instead of discussing potential incomings, here we are discussing whether or not we should sell our No.1 (again) to a championship rival. In this case, they are taking our No.1 to be their long term 2nd/3rd choice. Only at Venkys Rovers.

Aye but it is just the usual piss and wind, as the ITK info about the so called interest from Boro is from gobshite nomark sources. But I 100% acknowledge we are having to consider piss and wind as gospel, due to the painful lack of any actual facts coming from the club (other than there have been no signings made). Bbrovers2288
Would be one of the biggest shock sales at rovers to me if boro bought back pears. I’m not a fan and if we can get some money for him this is ok by me- if and it’s a big if- we suitably upgrade

Emerald Isle Rover
It’s absolutely criminal that another day has passed an kd zero credible incoming links/progression at all Friday night could get toxic very very quickly feel sorry for the players not nice but something has to be done
Emerald Isle Rover
If I thought the pears money would be reinvested it wouldn’t overly bother me I don’t think he’s as poor as people make out but at the same time imo he’s not promotion chasing calibre but we won’t reinvest
B16Rover
Remember players, we're not doing new contracts, not signing new players and if there's a sniff we can make money on you then you're out the door whether you like it or not. Anyway, PNE Friday and QPR Tuesday. Give it your best shot, and for the injured amongst you just tough it out for us Edited January 27 by B16Rover
ben_the_beast
Last season Pears became one of our most important players. Not because he was any good, but his replacement in Wahlstedt was doubly abysmal. We'd have been relegated if he was our number 1 all season. This season Pears has come on leaps and bounds. He still makes me nervous, but he is a Championship level goalkeeper these days. It'd be a huge risk selling him, unless people at the club were supremely confident Toth was ready to step up, and I've no trust in those making the decisions. The only opinion I'd trust is Eustice, and he's picked Pears every time this season, which says all you need to know.
imy9
Pears money invested? Wharton, Sammie and Raya, that’s at least 35 million there- how much has been invested? 2 million maybe? id rather keep the players and pray the injured ones come back. pears has also been very good this season and comparable to most championship keepers so deffo one to keep

Backroom Tom Posted January 27 Backroom Share Posted January 27 Pears isn’t a great keeper but it would be pointless selling him now unless there is really a silly offer; he’s no longer one of our biggest weaknesses which shows he’s come a long way.

Our need since the window has been open was apparent to everyone including Eustace who has stated so several times. The fact we have dropped points in that period when new players would have given us a real chance of getting some speaks volumes about the state of our club and the lack of ambition. The excuses don't cut it with me and many others.
