Look at this line from the latest LET article (the one with Eustace distancing himself from the WBA job);

"Obviously, the football club are doing very well at the moment and we are being linked with players coming here who are maybe 'too good' for us. Because we are doing well, that is happening."

I'm sorry... what? Have I missed articles linking us to Declan Rice, Nico Williams and Alexander Isak or something?

Players we've been linked with this window...

Kwame Poku
Jeffrey Schlupp
Ryan Kent
Tyler Bindon
Augustus Kargbo
Grant Hanley
Liam Kitching
Mohamed Farsi

Who on earth, out of those players could be considered 'too good' for us?! Ryan fucking Kent I assume? Behave, it's just the usual lowering of expectations.

Has Eustace said that? Very disappointing if so. He shouldn't be saying that even if we we were being tentatively linked with some genuine superstars on loan etc.

I'd go the other way, I'm not excited by anyone we've been linked to yet.

Yup, in this article: https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/24844743.eustace-blackburn-rovers-ambition-west-brom-links/

I fully agree on your last line. Most of the links have been shite, not a single player I would consider 'too good' for us - shocking take from Eustace.

Huddersfield are spending £3m on a player. Baffling how lge 1 clubs show more ambition and financial muscle in the transfer market than we do.

Looks like they sold a player in the summer to Coventry for about £5m but ya know, they can't reinvest that money because they only get the cash in installments 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Is that a quote from Eustace?

Kinel guys….relax. There’s so much context that can’t be seen in written text. But when you add in the fact that the report is paraphrasing a full conversation, it makes full understanding impossible.

Maybe he was referring to others who had said they were “Too good”, maybe they’d just had a joke about Ronaldo coming to Rovers off camera and that was the context?? There’s many many ways this could be read.

In the main, the message is REALLY clear from JE. The most pertinent word in the interview is ‘ambitious’ for me. That is laying the gauntlet down to Suhail and The V’s.

I'm a big fan of John Eustace but that is a frankly bizarre and ridiculous comment. Unless I've missed some huge and crazy link somewhere, it just seems like nonsense.

That is fair, but the quote itself is very strange. Perhaps let's consider it a 'mis-speaking' that I think is understandably not landing well in the current context.

I do, though, think Eustace is canny enough, and the Rovers situation sufficiently frustrating, that the words he chooses to say to the media are generally selected for impact. So I'm always going to pay attention to them.

Well if the names linked so far are "too good" for us it might be Eustace tipping us off that that the Club aren't matching his ambition.

We don't know what tone the comment was said in either. I suppose he could have said it in a sarcastic manner.

We won't know until the end of the window I guess, but early signs are very unencouraging both in terms of actual activity and names linked. The only hope is that the Club have been keeping their cards close to their chest and they surprise us with some great signings that haven't been mentioned anywhere so far.

Said similar yesterday

kitching wasn’t mentioned anywhere by anybody until Elliot confirmed talks had taken place last week

its the only hope I’m clinging on to at this time that cards are being kept close to their chest with certain targets

park gone = Nixon back to being out of the loop

Poku would.

Schlupp given his experience and still playing at PL level.

Kitching probably would.

But they will hundreds of players we scout over the months but Eustace from his comments wants experience and players ready to make an impact from minute 1 of joining the club.

Not great from JE but I think he is merely trying to reinforce the point that we're over achieving.

He's clearly ramping up pressure on the board to deliver, he'll be well aware of what happens to Rovers in the January windows and is doing everything he can via the media to reinforce the point we need more quality in certain positions.

He's also still not great with his words in front of the media, which won't help.

You think those players are "too good" for us?

A Coventry reserve, an aging ugility man frozen out by his club and an injured League 1 player.

Eustace is clearly getting pissed off.

In what world would poku and kitching be too good for rovers or even close to it? Give your head a wobble

Agreed I do find some of his interviews a bit awkward which is fair as his job is coaching etc not to be the best at interviews/infront of cameras

I wouldn't read too much into it. He managed to get Cantwell so it's not like we are not trying and succeeding to get established names.

A League One youngster, an ageing (reportedly overweight and past it) PL squad player and a Coventry benchwarmer... you're saying these are too good for Blackburn Rovers?!

Hang your head in shame mate, seriously.

Like others, I agree he can come across a bit awkwardly/uncomfortably in interviews, but I also think he has been increasingly strongly messaging to the board/owners in recent weeks. It feels familiar to the last months of the JDT era (minus the charm/smarm) and that worries me a lot.
