January Transfer window

Recommended Posts

He also didnt get backed in the summer.

We sold by far our best player for £9m on the back of selling a player for a club record fee which also hadnt been reinvested.

We signed a dud of a striker for £1m, and then probably a combined £1m on top on a sub keeper, Ohashi and Cantwell. Then a couple of freebie veterans unwanted by other Championship clubs and 3 loans.

If thats being backed then I wouldnt like to see what not being backed is. Eustace has done a very good job in spite of not being backed.

The same posters won't be saying the same if we loose both games or pick up minimal points and slide down to 10th...Teams breathing down our necks are investing...What are we doing?

I get it, we’ve fucked up the last 3 January transfer windows. I’m as anxious as you.

BUT, the only thing that matters is that we get the right players. That we get the players that the manager wants. If that takes a few more days, then so be it…Right?

The fact of it is that we (the fans) don’t have a clue what is happening so what’s the point in losing our shit every 30 mins when we check X and BRFC’s??

Fwiw, I think Kitching on loan (a £4m signing for Coventry) to cover Pickering, on paper looks like a very clever and encouraging signing. Lots of experience, just drops in, like Baker did and Travis did at Ipswich. This came out of nowhere and looks like one that JE could be behind.

Sorry just not having this at all. 6months in and he offered to resign? Calling massive BS on this one

Yeah, because people NEVER offer to resign, 6 months into a job when their employer backs out of a fundamental part of the reason they took the job. Sound 👍🏼

My issue would be why it wasn’t brought up before now it’s pretty big news/statement one would have thought?

That’s your opinion.

Being backed is subjective. I would suggest, based on the comments narrative from JE around the standard of player recruited in the summer that it’s satisfied his expectations. He’s certainly not intimated any unhappiness with the business, and simply stressed that they must “continue” to strengthen in the January window.

It’s known amongst the staff, coaches internal team.

People offer to leave on a daily basis in companies. It’s not sensational and in footballing context, information like that is only ‘reported’ on when one or both sides wants it to be. So if JE was looking for a way out, (like JDT) then it gets leaked. Or if the club are looking to pot the manager, it will get leaked.

Ergo, the positive here is that neither side actually wanted it to happen.

I don’t think JE wants to leave. I only passed on what I heard to provide context that he won’t be pushed around.

Another day of refreshing this page, hoping for a genuine transfer link!

This window is starting to feel even more underwhelming than previous seasons, especially with winnable games approaching and our desperation for a goalscoring striker. We’ve had so many games where we’ve conceded only one goal and with an Armstrong, Rhodes or Sammie we’d have potentially gone on and won the game comfortably.

Why the club hasn’t made this an absolute priority and got us a natural finisher in already is just laughable. We could be pushing for automatic promotion. Our current main fit striker has one league goal in 24!

At this stage last season, Sammie had 16 goals.

Current top scorers.

1. Yuki Ohashi 24 apps 5 goals

2. Andreas Weimann 20 apps 4 goals

3. Tyrhys Dolan 23 apps 2 goals

= Danny Batth 22 apps 2 goals

= Lewis Travis 20 apps 2 goals

I’m meaning in these forums not in the public eye. These forums are full on ‘in the know’ information. If this happened 6 months ago how come it’s only now it’s been brought up on what  is pretty big news

just my opinion

Mate, from as close to the horses mouth as you get, I know JE offered his resignation in the summer as we meandered through the transfer window refusing to spend the money he had been promised on joining the club. In fairness, Rovers turned it round with some good signings and backed him, with the Cantwell signing the ‘Cherry on the top’.

JE doesn’t sound petulant or erratic, but he is apparently VERY direct and clear in what he wants. I think he’s a realist, and doesn’t expect us to spend millions, but IF we have a terrible window this January, then I don’t doubt that he will do his job well until the end of the season and be gone in the summer.

He won’t be short of offers.

As mentioned in another thread, I spoke to someone,  working at a fellow championship on Wednesday and he told me that WBA approached us with regards to taking Eustace as manager and were quoted a compensation figure, that they were not prepared to pay.

I fully agree that he won't be short on offers and that one tells us exactly that and he will no doubt be very miffed, if that was blocked and he now pays the price that a poor window will ensure and his reputation suffers, even a little.

I find that a lot more likely than unlikely and not too sure why you think the way you are.

Think Lambert and JDT as we all know they were given false promises, which is how things seem with Eustace.

It is the managerial version of Maguire and O'Brien, as in promises made and then an about turn happens and it a lot more frequent than promises being kept.

I’m not saying it’s unrealistic as such I’m more saying at the drop of a hat in these forums any news true or fake is always brought up for debtate

that for me seems quite a significant bit of news that has not been mentioned at all until now for me that’s the strange part

It is subjective. My opinion is that spending a couple of million when a squad already lacking in numbers and quality after previous negligence loses its best 2 players including its only goalscorer for close to if not £30m doing what we did in the summer is not being backed.

We spent such a small amount, and its in spite of a lack of backing that Eustace has got the results that he did.

No manager will ever publically criticise the players they have or the players they bring in. And some of them have done well, take Danny Batth. Weve signed a veteran who couldnt get a kick in an injury crisis at an average Championship side. Its been a very good bit of recruitment but part of that is Eustace setting up in a way to protect him and to get the best out of him. But its not a symptom of a manager being backed, its in spite of not being backed.

I don't think the side is set up specifically to protect Batth. Eustace is a pragmatic manager and would probably set up the same way no matter who the CB's were.

I’m sure nobody is scrolling back to check and I apologise if it’s been missed by myself. However again I find it strange that something as big as that people haven’t spoke about at length on this forum. Considering we spoke about pears for about 15 pages on one occasion

Jonjo Shelvey (mentioned a few pages back) joining our dearest neighbours apparently.

Shelvey will rip up this league.

Despite having one the best squads in the league already, Parker is being further backed with top players to help the dingles over the line... this is why yet again, they'll go up again first time of asking.

Then you have our set of muppets.

My bet is it's 3 games maximum before the throws a fit at not getting a free kick, punches the ref and moons the manager. Loves a red that one.

Is there any way we could crowdfund to persuade him to switch round the punch and the moon? Would love to see Parker get thumped, I'm quite sure his face is always asking for it 😉

Really?

2 starts in half a year

limited minutes

Playing in turkey - hasn’t played in England in 2/3 years - don’t think he will be ripping anything up tbh

So you wouldn't take Shelvey at Rovers right now?

Not so sure. Overrated manager and they'll have margins go against them at some point as well. Blades are favourites for me, with Leeds a close second.

We need players that can hit the ground running and we needed them yesterday, so I'm baffled that we don't have any clear targets that have already joined. But business as usual eh?
