I think that’s what has been pivotal to our success this season, keeping the goals conceded down to 23.

At this stage last season we’d conceded 47.

If we can bring someone in that can score goals, we can be serious about the playoffs. Win that game in hand and we are back up to 5th.

Which is why I continue to harp on about bringing in a quick winger. Someone that will allow us to hit teams on the break at pace, over the top and provide assists for our strikers.

It's THE most important piece we're missing.

Don’t think your judgement should be clouded by Murphy tbh, he had down tooled by the time he got to us in my opinion. He was never blessed with pace to begin with. Plenty of old heads have flourished in the championship. Danny Graham is a recent example for us

Look my response with directly the mark hughes comparison - mark hughes joined rovers when he was 35/36 at centre mid im saying i don’t think that would work now in this day and age personally

not saying players in their 30s cant and haven’t but imagine we signed a 35 year old centre mid now the uproar on here would be off the scale

Toni kroos? It really depends on the player and how well they have looked after themselves I think mate

A Mark Hughes (or a Gordon Cowans) would have the forum delighted. Alas such examples are that of top quality footballers (who have an expectation to be remunerated accordingly), so it’s more likely a Gordon Greer here…

Barry Bannan is doing ok and I’m quicker than him. Class will always be permanent

Robbie Fowler and Wes Brown say hello.

Fowler was 'only' 33 and even looked technically awful in the minutes we saw him.

I have a customer who is a massive Liverpool fan and who knows Fowler really well and he speaks very highly of him. Really nice and genuine guy who would do anything for you apparently.

However he was obviously going through the motions in the knockings of his career when he was here.

My customer recounted a tale of how he'd been on a night out at the time with Fowler in Liverpool on a Sunday night. About 2a.m. the following morning they're stood there with 2 beers and Robbie says "I'd better leave that, I've got training later on."

The best example to use to see whether this is true is Stewart Downing. Came in 2019 just turning 35 and played at times in CM and at times out wide (where pace is more important).

No uproar. Some questions asked about whether he still had it (which I'm pretty sure were also asked when we signed Hughes), but I certainly wouldn't say uproar. People had different views on him as with all players, but overall he was deemed to do a pretty good job in that first season by most, when he was an almost ever present playing 41 league games.

I think it's clear, it depends on the player not just their age. There'll always be question marks over players of more advanced ages, but no uproar unless they've also been shit in recent years or have abysmal injury records, and some will work out, some won't.

Christ i thought he was a good 5 years older when he was here. That's a criminal loss of ability.

I don't think people were very enthusiastic at the time.

You could see him deteriorating almost before your eyes towards the latter end of his first spell.

Should never have been given a second deal.
