January Transfer window

Yeah.

But we also know there are snowball effects and one deal can trigger a series of consecutive deals. Things change quickly. But worrying that we haven't announced a new chief scout yet, and that this is only the second transfer window to the men in charge at the moment - a vital transfer window too.

Yea there’s that no doubt I just think the club should have targeted the block of games starting wed night. A favourable set of fixtures (on paper) and tried to give us the best chance possible with little to no excuses

now we could get 4/6 or 6/6 points this week no problem but my fear is that if we don’t or lose one or pick up way less than expected (for me anything under 4 is poor) it’s likely due to lack of firepower in the team

I personally just think this block is the most important of the season if by Feb we are in or still within touching distance of playoffs then class and hopefully by then we have the 2 in

but if we continue this poor run of form we could also be out of it and the two players coming in itl be too late in my eyes

Forshaw is cover isn’t he. Can’t really see the issue with him on a deal till the end of the season and only likely to feature is circa 5-10 games.

Travis and Trondstadt clearly first choice with Buckley probably looking to feature more in the absence of Baker.

Forshaw brought in as 4th choice maybe 5th if he opts for JRC in there as well.

Crying out for some pace going forward so we can stretch teams. Would definitely bring out the best in Cantwell if we did that as well.

Dennis would be an interesting one but seems to have fallen off the face of the earth over the last 18 months which is a concern, whoever we opt for has to be match fit and be able to improve and contribute straight away. None of this taking 10 games to get up to speed.

The problem is, people are saying whats te problem hes only cover as if he wil be 4th choice. Baker was third and he was solid cover. Now, Buckley has been promoted to 3rd in line, he isnt up to that and Travis is injured for a few weeks.

Travis likely back in a couple of weeks. Hopefully for PNE game.

We've been down the road of managers accepting things in the hope that it will lead to jam tomorrow from these owners.

Couple of examples:

Lambert agreeing to shift Jordan Rhodes out for big money on the understanding that he was getting the proceeds to rebuild us. He got nothing bar a few loans and the cash disappeared.

Mowbray apparently wanted Rothwell off to Bournemouth in return for the cash to spend on new players. They didn't allow that and no money materialised

JDT seemingly tolerated the Adam Wharton sale until it became clear the cash was disappearing and it was then he called it a day.

I'm sure there are many more examples out there.

So when Eustace accepts Sanderson and Forshaw as cheap squad fillers on the hope/expectation/agreement that he is going to get some cash for the other more important positions it's probably a wise approach and sounds lovely. Only we've seen what happens here. Goalposts move, budgets change, people go awol, authorisation doesn't come through, excuses are made.

Lets see.

Ironically, wasn't one the players lined up Jed Wallace? As in, when he would have been a good signing, as opposed to now when he's on the decline.

100%.

It'll be unforgivable if we drop out of contention before any main signings come in.

So in the 4 games prior and any games after in which Travis or Tronstad miss out, we are weak with Buckley not good enough and Rudy getting his old mate to help out.

Buckley us different type of midfielder to Travis and Tronstad.

Not sure Buckley isn't good enough, he is deep layer midfielder. Travis played higher up in the 8 role not deeper like Buckley or Baker did

Buckley is different to Tronstad and Travis. The latter 2 are very good Championship midfielders. Buckley isnt Championship standard.

Why didnt we sign a more energetic midfielder to cover Travis rather than one of Rudy's mates who is on the scrapheap?

You just answered your own question there, unless of course you were being rhetorical.

If you're right and Forshaw is considered worse than Buckley, it's a bad signing. Buckley has been dogshit for quite some time, and is insufficient as 3rd choice. Somebody better than Buckley should've been brought in.

Well its groundhog day again, Rovers in a very good league position as the January transfer window opens, and nothing from Pune. I just dont get it, not asking for huge sums here, we need a quality winger and striker in asap, some very winnable games coming up. They could get a sizeable chunk of their money back and save some face if we ever reached the EPL.

On the other hand, whoever made the decision at the club too hire John Eustace, well done. Guy has us punching above our weight and is a class act. You can actually see a huge improvement on the basics. Set pieces, defensive shape and patterns of play, along with in game management all noticeably improved.  I would back him, I would trust him. Sanderson and Forshaw are squad players, which we need, but I hope JE is right that the bulk of the resources will go on the forward line. He certainly likes experience.

I think Riis from Preston would be a cracking signing, always impressed, it would be weird, but I think he would be a quality striker for us, good age and experience in the league. Him along with Schlupp would be the combo for me.

The rumours at the time were that Eustace was Waggott's man. If so, it must be the only useful thing he has done in his whole tenure. A stopped clock is right twice a day and all that, I guess.

Buckley is a ball playing centre midfielder.

Your getting obsess over Forshaw knowing Gestede from around 8 years ago. Grow up

Fwiw - I think the Sanderson signing is smart. JE will see him as an Outliar in that he covers two positions and is great value for money. He obviously rates him as a player and a leader.

Forshaw appears to be one lead by the recruitment team, in terms of being available, with championship experience, leadership qualities and cheap. Appears to have received sign off from JE on the proviso that the remaining money is spent on forwards. But honestly, I agree that it’s potentially weakened our squad, because he’s a direct replacement for Baker. So we’re going to need Buckley to step up massively and prove us wrong in the second half of this season.

‘Ball playing midfielder’. Been a long time since that description fit Buckley, ‘ambling about half arsed with his head in the clouds midfielder’ would be more apt.

"Needs a kick up the arse" kind of midfielder would be more apropos. When your creative midfielders get hold of the ball there should be an audible intake of breath from the crowd in anticipation of something good happening (a la Toogs / Sherwood etc - remember?). Sadly, with Buckley, there is just a ripple of 'pass it forward, to one of ours, oh fooking hell' goes round like a negative Mexican wave... But hey, JE can fix that..??

C'mon Rovers - time to unveil your cunning plan - and no, it mustn't be underpants on your heads and knitting needles up your nostrils...It's STRIKER TIME!! (Please!)
