Absolute clown

Most of them are from that era.. Neville, Gerrard, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Parker etc

I listened to a podcast a while ago comparing the lack of success of that generation of UK players in management. It highlighted how few of them go to ‘school’ to learn the tactical side of the game as they do in Spain, France, Germany and Italy. Gerrard got a 2mill job with zero experience, training, etc whereas you look at the current batch of successful Spanish managers - they’ve essentially done a degree in football as well as having been pro’s, they then spend time with lesser teams refining their craft.

not saying one way or the other is right it was just quite stark the difference in approaches and relative ease in which English ex pro’s get high level jobs

I’ve only seen 10 minutes of Sanderson but I’m pleased we’ve got him and not Hanley. He looks quicker for a start. Hanley will ok for big club if they’re looking to get promoted.

In that league they might have occasional use for someone who is just a strong, fearless, aggressive lump. Agree, Sanderson is already clearly far more athletic. He also seems to be fairly strong, fearless and aggressive. I'm sure time will reveal the flaws in his game that have seen him fall out of favour, but so far I'm definitely happier with him than I would've been with Hanley. Maybe we'll even come to regret not making it a permanent while his stock was low...or maybe we'll be glad it was just a loan. That's why an option would've been nice.

You should be saying which way is right - it's clearly theirs. There's a reason no English manager has won the Prem.

Oh I definitely have a belief in which way is right, just couldn’t be arsed getting into an argument about being in love with foreign managers or something!

St. George’s park was meant to provide the coach education/finishing school for British coaches but it hasn’t happened. Top players get jobs without doing the learning and anyone outside of the very elite game can’t do an A license. It’s a joke.

We have under 1000 A license coaches in this country, Spain has over 18’000

There'd not be any challengers, we'd be untouchable.

Might depend a little bit on which Diaz showed up and if Armstrong has learnt how to pass to teammates. But in theory, and injuries permitting, yeh we could walk it with that side. Our defence, at least with the way its organised, is one of the best in the league. Our CM pairing is one of the best in the league. With those attackers added in we would have the pace and finishing to be utterly lethal on the counterattack.

Our only remaining weaknesses would be keeper (I'm sure I'll take flak for that but currently Pears is an average Championship goalie for me, who is having a mostly solid/good season with a great defence in front of him, but isn't a top 6 quality goalie) and cover for CM. That aside, we would be pretty rampant.

We have far more professional clubs and more money than Spain too, that's inexcusable.

Wow, I didn't know that, that's ludicrous. Is that a rule or just elitism?

Largely due to cost and the embarrassingly low numbers of places available. They basically only get offered to those in the elite game. To do a level 2 qual (eufa C license) it’s £650 quid.

I did my b license in wales at a fraction of the cost of doing it in Uk and at the time I probably wouldn’t have even got a place.

Brittain - Batth - Hyam - Beck

           Tronstad - Travis

                   Cantwell

Armstrong - Szmodics - Diaz

Only Gary Bowyer would struggle to win the league with those outfield players

Rooney would get that team relegated 😉  Makes Gary Bowyer look like Pep

Talking of the opinions of fans on players, Bolton fans thought Beck was absolute garbage and look how he's turned out.

A mate of mine takes her husband (a Bolton fan) to Ewood whenever Bolton are away, and he remains convinced it is not the same Owen Beck such is the difference.

Probably a lot more confident and understanding of the senior game since then after regular first team football in Scotland. I'd have hoped for that sort of effect with Garrett and O'Riordan if they'd played regularly, but we've wasted 6 months for them both now. If Markanday can carry his League Two form into League One, maybe he can surprise some people in the summer. People are quick to forget how much football is played in the mind.

Maybe he just wasn’t ready when he was at Bolton?

We’ve seen that on several occasions, when a very young player looked like a boy in a man’s league.

Absolutely.

Branthwaite was dog shite when he was with us, but he was also just a teenager starting out on his career.

Now what's he meant to be worth?
