Ossydave Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I liked Mowbray a large portion of the time, but I'd be gutted if we reappointed him. He got them promoted once, significant difference being he was backed heavily in the transfer market back then though which he wont get now. Presumably his last managerial job and I wish him well, just finish below us.... 4 Quote

It's a wave of nostalgia for the past and I'm guessing that Moyes and the Gurning Chump won't be the last such appointments as clubs look back to previous glory days in a desperate attempt to recreate the previous conditions and context to take them magically forward towards similar good times. A bit like if JE was to be poached away, us appointing Sparky or Souey and expecting that to be enough to restore a long gone confidence and capability. Good luck to them. But better fortune to us 😉 COYB! Signings please! 2 Quote

Popular Post RoversClitheroe Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 I think I'd have to completely avoid Rovers until Mowbray left, what a terrible and negative manager who constantly threw academy grads under the bus. Gallagher at RWB. Never playing players in the correct position. Couldn't stand him 13 Quote
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Asante isn't the worst shout I've seen. Quicker than we have, good engine and seems quite robust. Decent age at 26 and has champ experience. He's hardly prolific but offers something we don't currently have. Hopefully there are better options though. Club should throw money at this window - there's no excuse but we all know they won't. Need to get Britain tied down in a new contract or he'll be the next out the door for nowt. 2 Quote
TheRevAshton Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) Realised we play Coventry on Tuesday... if BTA himself wants the move here, surely he'll be dying to get it done before that. After a bad stint there and a lot of shit from their fans, it'd be pretty poetic for him to come on late and score the winner for us! Edited January 17 by TheRevAshton Quote

I would say there is absolutely no chance of us getting BTA, or any striker in before we play Coventry on Tuesday. I don't think BTA happens anyway, we won't pay the fee. Quote

I’m surprised hughes has fallen so far down the managerial ladder tbh, loved his stint with us, we played good football and could match the big guns on our day, last time I felt we were a good side. You would think he would still be kicking around the championship at least but he is all but done I think 7 Quote

roversfan99 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Some people just lost all reason in terms of judging Mowbray and you would think years after his departure may have regained some balance but no. "Horrific" "couldnt stand him" and would have to avoid Rovers if he was here, deary me. Did a good job, stayed a bit too long, his departure was welcomed. 6 Quote

What a shit league. To be fair, it obviously helped Owen Beck going there last season. 50 minutes ago, Hi Mack said: Football is in a totally different place now though. pick32 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Mowbray had his favourites, didn’t always pick best players was popularity Quote
... Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) If there's nothing else on the table I'd take Asante as said above he's got something we currently don't have so it's a marginal step up Edited January 17 by ... Quote

He was awful. 5 Years of solid mediocrity with a minor high of getting out of League One at the first attempt, all be it trumped by an inferior Wigan side. He is in my opinion a key reason for the current state of the club. His successors both show a HUGE improvement in ambition and respect for the fans. Edited January 17 by DuffsLeftPeg 4 Quote
Trinidad Rover Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Would be hugely underwhelmed by Thomas Asante (sorry Chaddy). I hope we have set our sights higher than that. We need someone to make a difference if we want to cement a top 6 spot, not another body. I don’t think he adds much to the current squad, particularly what we need - goals. That costs money though. Sunderland are a good example of a club ‘going for it’ currently and risking the outlay for potential promotion. Nonsense we can’t afford to after our recent player sales. Of all the names mentioned I would love BBD and Cornet. But then this is Venkys so my expectations are tempered after the last 3 January windows. Imagine a prem loan will be our lot - I would take Danns from Liverpool. 1 Quote

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) The doubts set in for me right at the end of the promotion season and the following close season. Up until then I had been a fan of his. He showed minimal ambition to kick on when the club was briefly on the crest of a wave. After that I was just waiting for him to leave. It turned out to be a long wait ! rovers11 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) It feels like we've really gone old school with how we're approaching transfers. Eustace is very much in control of who we are targeting, no doubt about that. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but also probably why Park left. Given what Eustace has done so far with us, give him all the control he wants. He clearly knows what he's doing. Edited January 17 by rovers11 2 Quote

Real fans dont just pick and choose when they are interested in supporting the team vent their frustrations absolutely be annoyed absolutely but avoid and take little interest that’s not a fan 2 Quote
