Up until then I had been a fan of his. He showed minimal ambition to kick on when the club was briefly on the crest of a wave. After that I was just waiting for him to leave. It turned out to be a long wait ! The crap he came out with about reigning the owners ambition after promotion did for me. Rather than trying to go for it, he diluted all expectations quoting long term projects and stability....and here we still are. 9 Quote

Real fans dont just pick and choose when they are interested in supporting the team vent their frustrations absolutely be annoyed absolutely but avoid and take little interest that’s not a fan I'd say that sums up most football fans. Just because you aren't 'hardcore' doesn't mean you aren't a fan. Now if you start watching and supporting another team - you aren't a fan. You can fuck right off. 3 Quote

"Horrific" "couldnt stand him" and would have to avoid Rovers if he was here, deary me. Did a good job, stayed a bit too long, his departure was welcomed. Convinced the owners that promotion was a long-term process. Said himself he had to vigorously dissuade Iron Bar Venky from spending big money on transfers like he wanted to. Quote
TonyM Posted January 17 Posted January 17 With Stoke now looking for a striker I imagine Brereton is banging on the gates of their training ground ...... he always said his dream was to play for his home club. 1 Quote

There’s a difference between hardcore and avoidance. Picking and choosing when you are fully behind the team etc imo isn’t a true fan can you be a disgruntled fan absolutely many of us currently are But maybe putting rovers to one side or shelving them for a season whilst you don’t like the manager to me that’s not a true fan more a fair weather fan 2 Quote

Ricceh Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Football League World must have two hats, one for the names of the Prem youth players available for loan, and the other the champ teams in. Mix and match to generate random articles. 3 Quote

Popular Post smiller14 Posted January 17 Popular Post Posted January 17 I was a big critic of Mowbray but wouldn't say he's half as bad as some comments suggest. He was unfortunate to have a relegation on his CV, results were okay that season when he came in after inheriting a total mess. Got us back up but still frustrated he rested half the team vs Charlton and gave up any hope of the title. After that, it was mixed. Some very famous death spirals, some moments of hope. Easy to forget his final season points total was identical to the following season under JDT. Although the complete capitulation made it feel a lot worse. I wish him the best, he's a good man. He did a very good job at Sunderland too. I'm much happier with Eustace but history will be relatively kind to Mowbray I think. Another poor appointment after Coyle and we could have really fallen into the abyss. 14 Quote
Backroom Popular Post Tom Posted January 17 Backroom Popular Post Posted January 17 The hyperbole around Mobwray is ridiculous, I wanted him gone (a few times) but in no world could you class him as awful or such like especially considering some of the managers we had. At his absolute worst he was steady and lacking in ambition. 11 Quote

He was cautious and too 'safe' but to suggest he chucked it and deliberately didn't win games feels like total hyperbole to me. There was perhaps an element of self-preservation in lowering expectations but if he achieved promotion he stood to gain a lot more than plodding in mid-table. He just wasn't a good enough manager to achieve it. 2 Quote

Agree with most of that but if we'd have gone up in his mind he could have thought the club would go for a bigger name plus if we had gone straight back down his position could have been under threat. Sailing along nicely in the championship would have suited him Quote

Best club on that list, good relationship with Liverpool in terms of loans, Beck here already, he'll get plenty of minutes as we desperately need a striker. I'd say if we were serious about it we'd be in a very strong position to win it. But like you said, probably not true. 4 Quote
