Aside from a serious injury of a Matt Jansen magnitude he'll go up in value. I imagine it'd be him and Cantwell battling it out for the CAM position and Cantwell needs some competition. But you're kind of right, the club is ran without imagination. Under normal running conditions we'd get those players + Aasgard but now we desperately need an out and out striker. I think he's good but he's got some of the same attributes as Cantwell has, and we can utilise others in the pocket as well, if needed. One for the summer. Quote

Andy Posted January 19 Posted January 19 If anyone had any doubts that Nixon is nothing more than a red top guess merchant, the O'Brien 'link' should seal it. The laziest possibly link to make, along with linking BBD with us. Will absolutely not happen. And if it did, I'll show my arse on the halfway line in the subsequent home game. Quote

I remember Arsenal hiring their own Pendelino for a cup match at Preston a few years ago, but doubt our budget would stretch to that, (not cheap!) 1 Quote

B16Rover Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Well I for one am dreading having to watch our midfield come Tuesday when we don't sign any improvement. Enduring 90 minutes (or as close as) of Adam Fore Score and Seven Years Ago unfortunately seems an inevitability. Can someone explain to me how we have smartly made two cheap signings to conserve our budget, but are also waiting to last minute panic to spend this wedge of cash we've set aside? 2 Quote

Ricky Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Thought Buckley grew into the game yesterday. Started taking people on rather than just passing sideways and backwards. However him alongside JRC in the middle of the park would be crazy. Based on that I reckon Forshaw starts on Tuesday. He didn’t look great on Saturday but let’s hope he surprises us on Tuesday. I don’t see us getting O’Brien, or even trying to get him. Quote

Reminded me of the corpse of Danny Murphy showing up in a Rovers shirt for one last payday. I don't rate Garrett but at least his legs haven't gone. He looked ok up until half time (a few timely tackles and ticked the ball over with short passes) - which is what I think he was signed for, a 20 minute man off the bench to give Travis / Tronstad a rest. He couldn't keep up with the pace of the game in the second half and was a complete liability. 7 Quote

RoverCanada Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) If Forshaw was brought in to replace a McFadzean-like case, where the outgoing player had barely played at all, and bring strong dressing room qualities (to be fair to him, perhaps he is a good in the room), maybe there's some sense having him on the bench instead of some youngster whose probably nowhere near first-term football yet. But Baker started seven games for us, roughly 1/3 of the games he was around for, and came on as a sub 6 of the 14 times he was on the bench. (And Mark Robins has had him play 90min in both games since his recall). It's a clear downgrade for a squad player, not a backup, which matters a hell of a lot when 1-2 of your midfield options go down. Edited January 19 by RoverCanada 3 Quote

Oh hey, no problem, I can field that one, I've seen this movie before. Waiting to the last minute ensures we can tell sob stories. We almost pulled it off but we couldn't quite get it over the line (or we'll find out a week later whether we got it over the line in time). There just wasn't good value in the market so we're keeping our powder dry. Things change quickly on deadline day, and things happened beyond our control that were unforeseeable, etc etc. Not to fret though! We've loaned a hotshot striker from Brighton's Under-16s who might turn out to be Premier League quality...in 4-5 years. Siggy is coming back and he'll be like a new signing on the wings. But also...we have a new signing on the wings! Stewart Downing has decided to give it another crack. We'll be reyt, the important thing is we aren't getting relegated. Unless there are any more key injuries to personn- wait was that the sound of Beck's hamstring pulling? 8 Quote

We were hoping to find a striker in the Tuesday Lidl sale baskets in the middle isle, but all they had was cordless strimmers. The good news is we are going to sort out the grass growing through the brickwork outside the stadium...during the summer transfer window when we buy a battery for the Parkside strimmer. Quote
