bluebruce Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) 2 hours ago, chaddyrovers said: how many more signings cos we make when we have only so many spaces within the 25 man squad rules? the squad already Pears, Toth, Hilton Brittain, Hyam, Carter, Sanderson, Batth, Pickering, Beck, Wharton(do we include him?) Forshaw, Travis, Tronstad, JRC, Buckley Hedges, Dolan, Cantwell, ACD, Weimann, Sigurdsson, Gueye, Ohashi, Leonard(doesn't have to be register) So that's 23 players so unless we sell Sigurdsson or someone else leaves? its max of 2 signings unless its a permanent signing under 21 signing. Give over, as if we need Hilton whatsoever. He'd be the first one to go if we want another space, I'd rather play Michalski as third choice than him, and we have other older u21 keepers if he's deemed too young. Third choice keeper is almost never required and the young goalies are much of a muchness. So that's 3 signings we can make with no worries, and if we wanted more we could make permanent u21 signings- which is probably a market we should consider anyway, with the opportunity for further development and resale. Plus Siggy hasn't been much use, so as you say he could go. Oh and no, we don't need to register Wharton, at very best he will be 'fit' for a couple of weeks or so. Squad numbers are not the problem, a strangled budget and neglectful owners are. Edited January 20 by bluebruce 4 Quote

Penwortham Blue Posted January 20 Posted January 20 So the 20th January, matches and opportunities to collect points passing by the day/week and still not even a murmur of getting a decent offensive signing into the club. The only thing we really have to mull over, is Unleaded’s confirmation that O’Riordan will be going back to Crewe and that we are trying to get others out the door 🙈 If they don’t bring in decent players to support the HC/ Manager, when somehow he has us in the play off position, like JDT and Mowbray did in recent years, the few thousand of us remaining and the stay aways need to be going over the top and taking our club back. 2 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 31 minutes ago, islander200 said: Or leave other players that ain't good enough out of the squad Like for example Forshaw, right fair enough a cheap signing who we could get that would be brought on to see out games etc or if he proved himself to be better than Buckley then fill in for Travis But with both first choice midfielders out a club set on promotion would invest in that area on better quality and leave forshaw out or look to loan or sell Buckley. Eustace doesn't see JRC as a central midfielder and if he is going to favour Sanderson or Carter at rb when Brittain is out/ need a rest then Jrc could be loaned/sold not given a space in squad if the club had ambition and where willing to spend a little money on putting together a squad that can sustain the good start of the season You really think Eustace and Rovers will leave Forshaw out? Loan/Sell JRC? 26 minutes ago, pick32 said: Don’t think Wharton or Pickering will be register to play Pickering will likely be back in March time so why wouldn't you register him? 13 minutes ago, Roverthechimp said: I’m sure he was very candid and forthcoming about it all. For reference - my comment is about how it works with a head coach. Clubs are starting to catch on to the continental way of having a “system”, recruiting players for said system and even coaches being chosen because they align with said system (making Man United’s current crisis even funnier) But yes - I’m sure that JE saw a list of strikers in the summer and said Ohashi and Gueye are who I want… 🙄 The summer business was done by transfer committee but its appears we moved away from that. Maybe why Park left Rovers. 1 Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted January 20 Posted January 20 The other thing is which has been mentioned periodically on here in passing but people haven't really made that much of a deal of (and Jackson either won't have realised or won't be brave enough to mention it) is that is is literally a one time only opportunity to pump some reasonable money into the squad due to the rolling FFP regulations. Once it's gone it's gone. 9 Quote

Get through a few years by blaming 'legal issues' in India, forgetting to press submit, changes to our recruitment department and then by the time we are a few seasons down the line everyone will have forgotten about the Wharton and Szmodics cash and they can revert to blaming FFP for a lack of action as they successfully did a few years ago. 14 Quote

No I don't think we will I think Eustace would if he had the financial backing I rate Jrc but he plays minimally and if Sanderson or Carter or Eustace preferred options to fill in at rb when Brittain not available where does he play If Eustace rated Buckley higher he would have seen more minutes off the bench previous to Travis and Tronstad injuries Quote
islander200 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Better than shrugging my shoulders and watching us slide down the table Protests etc would bring a little media attention We need them gone. Boro in for Travers and Whittaker.West Brom supposedly signing a lad from Belgium for 2.5 million 1 Quote

Ive said what I would do. Not register players that are not good enough. Say we sign 4, tell Sigurdsson now if he stays he wont be registered. Players like Hedges, Forshaw, Hilton, any of them can be left out. But ideally shed one or two before the window closes. Dolan could be one to be let go. Why would you seriously leave out players like Forshaw when we just signed them. Glad to see you written them after less a 90 mins in a Rovers shirt. 10 minutes ago, Emerald Isle Rover said: They don’t have to leave they just don’t have to be registered meaning Eustace can get who he wants and leave out who he doesn’t fancy - it’s not rocket science no point having players here if not the squad.
