ben_the_beast Posted January 22 Posted January 22 We're hitting a point whereby deadline day loans will be a complete waste of money. We'll likely be out of touch by then. Would rather see the money invested in transfers or contract renewals. Sham of a window thus far. Zero faith in those negotiating deals, that they've the expertise to get anything substantial over the line. 5 Quote

joey_big_nose Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Id say the way to look at it is how many of our players cause the opposition issues. I would say only Gueye, Ohashi and Travis reliably get the opposition on the back foot. We need two more by Jan 31st who can do that. Add a couple of players who can stretch the other team and everyone elses performance will improve hugely from the space theyll get. Cantwell, Dolan, Brittain, ACD, Weiman can become good offensive weapons if they have room but they are not going to make it for themselves. Id go all out for a striker to partner Gueye and finish off, and someone who can get in behind out wide and has good delivery. Quote

Not really how the Championship works imo, anyone can put a run together and get back up the table. We're still well in it if we can regroup. I have more faith in Eustace to do that than any manager we have had in the Championship. Edited January 22 by joey_big_nose 4 Quote

Got to agree tbh - Back foot now and too late. 74 point average to finish in the play offs, too many out and no one in who can make an impact. It was pretty obvious if we had a run of bad luck with injuries over winter then we would be stretched, should of been proactive Jan 1st, but then we aren't in that pool anymore! Or They surprise us all and there's a 8m war chest ready in the next week, we regroup and we show some ambition.... There I go again, clinging on every January! VENKYS OUT! 2 Quote
Popular Post JHRover Posted January 22 Popular Post Posted January 22 Season not quite over as we still need 2-3 wins to hit 50 points and with it effectively secure Championship status. Waggott's interview last year let slip the reality of what he and his little gang are focused on and need to ensure. There's no reason to think that 'ambition' has changed in any way, shape or form. So just a few more wins for Eustace to eke out between now and May and then it's job done, bonus qualified and job for another year (if he wants/needs it which I'm sure he does, a ride aboard the gravy train can be hard to give up). Promotion, top 6, growth, development, long term? HAHAHAHAHAHA 12 Quote

We had the best FB pairing in the league (assuming Brittain is out for weeks now and Beck is about to pull up injured). They put teams on the back foot. The problem, as it's always been, is that Weimann / Dolan / Hedges / ACD are crap and offer nothing - which obviously then neuters the strikers and Cantwell. 2 Quote

I think Eustace is a fantastic Championship manager, but the squad has run out of steam. As it did under JDT. Everyone else is reinforcing in January and we've gone backwards. We've had a terrible December and January (due to no fault of the players / manager) and we have another busy period coming up at the start of February. That's too many games and too many points bled away. Our best player is out for 6 weeks, Travis won't be match fit until mid-Feb, God knows how long Brittain is out for now. It looks like Batth picked up an injury too. 1 Quote

They let him down in the summer and he pulled out a miracle. He's working his socks off to manage this team - why bother if the owners are actively working against you? He'll be off to the first open Championship gig in the summer and I wouldn't blame him. 6 Quote

Nothings changed my mind on that front now that he’s working for that lot and given us nothing but b*llocks in the early days. He's about as qualified as I am for the role - although I'd be sacked in the first week because I'd ship out Hedges, Dolan, Buckley and Pears as soon as I could. 2 Quote

This gig is the best he's ever had and he'd obviously not get anywhere near the equivalent elsewhere. Same applies to Gestede and the other invisible people. Yeah Eustace gets another Championship job after this, infact those employable elsewhere don't last here long - JDT, Lambert, even Broughton. 2 Quote

He'll be off to the first open Championship gig in the summer and I wouldn't blame him. He offered his resignation last summer, before they pacified him with a few incomings. If they make a mess of this window and that is looking more and more likely, he's almost certainly gone in the summer. This is looking like the JDT scenario all over again. Only, Eustace is managing to keep his cool before the press and isn't calling anybody out. His words though, are saying what JDT was saying. He's telling us repeatedly that he, his staff and the players want quality additions to come in. If they don't, it's not down to him or his staff. Just like under JDT, it's another case of us vs them. 'Us' consisting of Eustace, his staff, the players and the fans. 'Them' being the shameless hierarchy. Only one party in this equation is interested in the club truly succeeding and kicking on. The reason for the division is ALL down to the hierarchy. A hierarchy that is never on the same page with their managers or the fans of the club. I think Eustace will now be starting to understand why many of us can't stand these owners and their lapdogs. Anybody out there that is still defending 'them' or sympathising with 'them' is truly lost. I've seen some even go as far as trying to blame Uncle Jack for Rovers fans being unhappy and for calling this crap out. I find that truly disgusting. Such people cannot call themselves Rovers fans, IMO. One of the worst examples, IMO, of lost fans was last season when sporadic "Venky's out" chants broke out and some in the Riverside turned in bafflement towards others and said "eh, what's that all about?" and "eh, where's that come from?". WTF do you think it's about? What have you been watching for the last 15 years? Anybody still asking those questions deserves everything they are seeing right now. 20 Quote
Torgeir Posted January 22 Posted January 22 If Venky's were reluctant to invest in a promotion push prior to the transfer window opening then why should they invest now? Damage is already done and 2-3 new faces won't be enough, even if they hit the ground running. It's another season of 'what could've been'... At least I'll probably avoid the damage this club did to my health last season this time around. 3 Quote
