Last season I'd have happily said Cheerio. This season, in my opinion, he has been our player of the season along with Tronstad.

I would want at least 5 million for someone to take our first choice keeper.

I don't think "the rumour" is true, but we didn't get £5M for either Kaminski or Raya, so no chance of seeing that amount for Pears if it was true

I don't actually mind Markanday in all honesty.

Markanday wasn't impressive last year, but, after excelling for Chesterfield in L2 and now off to a great start with Leyton Orient in L1, we should obviously at least take up the option on his contract and reassess in the summer. Just had a look and he's already at 1,971 L1/L2 minutes this year (+62min in cups) vs only 765 min last year (+290min in cups). His loans have turned out exactly as you'd hope for a young player in need of starts, so surely the hope is he'll be much better on his return. If not, we can probably at least flog him off for a few hundred k based on his loan performances.

Similar to recent debate about Morton (not that I expect him to return...), I get that some weren't fond of him - he certainly had his inconsistencies/growing pains during his Rovers loan, but, on a macro level, 30 starts+10 subs on a 7th place team for a 20-year-old who JDT put in a very challenging MF role is pretty impressive - but surely he's since improved as a 22-year-old who made 35 starts+4 subs for a 7th place (ha) Hull last year (whose fans seem to rate him) and now often on Liverpool's bench (if somewhat stuck in purgatory at the moment).

I think there is a player in there with more end product than someone like Dolan. Chances are we will take up the option for an extra year because it'd be silly not to, especially as he will likely be 'the replacement' for Dolan anyway.

Will always be the same with Markandey, he always looked good and scored a few goals whenever we played league 1/2 clubs in the early league cup rounds.

Nowhere near good enough for this level though.

He's just not strong enough, abit like ACD, but does show flashes going forward. Much better output than Dolan  and has a pretty neat left foot.

Let's hope these loans builds his confidence.

Never say never... look at Hirst, Telelovic etc. Wouldn't mind seeing him getting a crack partnering Gueye up top. Classic little and large!

But obviously just a curiosity, not relevant to who we need to sign now!

I would happily hire a limo and drive him there myself.

Did you not watch him throw two into the back of his own net on Saturday?

So, 7 day's remaining of the window...

Other than this Kargbo fella and the daft relink to O'brien, has anyone seen anything relatively believable?

Not that I am expecting anything, whatsoever...

Probably the striker from St Johnstone that was mentioned the other day as being a name they'd heard. Apologies I can't remember who posted it originally.

Benjamin Mbunga Kimpioka. Has scored 11 goals in 27 appearances. 6 in the league. Not exactly prolific but then they are bottom of the league. Was an unused sub at the weekend. Probably cheap so wouldn't be surprised if it happens.

The standard of goalkeeping has fallen off a cliff in the last few years. I'd say you see a clanger every round of fixtures even in the Premier League this season.

I don't think Pears will be going anywhere but I'd also have said there is no chance on earth Christian Walton and Jason Steele would play in the Premier League. Shows what I know.

I agree - someone should do a compilation of every goal conceded from pissing around with the ball at the back in the last 2-3 years - it would be a collection of near carbon copies. I get the game evolves, and why teams do it to evade this new style of "pressing" we have now, but I'm personally bored of seeing nearly all teams letting the players with the worst touch and general ball control (ie the back 4 and keeper), having so much of the possession close to their own goal, it's just not easy on the eye. I have to watch old 90s games to remind myself of what football can look like.

Raya also through the ball into the back of the net for us on many occasions, he's now arguably the best GK in world football.

(I'm not saying Pears will ever get close to this for the record!)

100% this. Standards are so poor amongst goalkeepers. Even teams fighting for champions league places seem to have naff goalkeepers these days. Look at the fella in net for Chelsea. Raya who is supposedly the best keeper in the league atm also drops drops clangers. Gone are the days of Seaman, Friedel, Van Der Sar, Schwarzer, Given, etc.

Call me old fashioned but I feel like a big part of it has come down to playing out from the back as most teams in the top division seem to attempt, and most of them do it so badly. This has obviously started filtering down to the Championship as well. Keepers are suddenly having to focus just as much on their ability with the ball at their feet as they are at actually preventing the ball from going in the net.

On Pears. He's probably having his best season at Rovers, probably his career so far actually. I think he's been helped by having a much more solid back 4 in front of him as well.
