January Transfer window

Recommended Posts

Once again a January transfer window of utter tosh lets face facts

What direction is this going

Scouts what ARE  they actually looking AT  and looking  FOR ???

Look at the window  we have signed 1 good player in RIBEIRO good cover for owen beck and push beck forward ( better than hedges)

Sanderson is a headless chicken penalty red card waiting to happen must be on late hundreds rather than  thousands for wages.

Forshaw - Ruddy bailing out his old team mate once again i wouldn't like to think we are paying him a wage cause its robbery if we are id rather we had Jake garret playing who wants to prove a point  yeah might not be good enough for the level but he is 10 of forshaw.#

Kangbo - Everything eustace didnt want but yet everything waggot wanted due to pressure on the board i only see it as a panic buy spending ridicule's amounts like that for another project who really isn't young enough we would of been better keeping hold of Telovic at half the money and the lad had some movement about him which i could see but also needed some coaching - it got the pressure off Waggot n Pashas back again most of fans fell for it the big unveiling on a Friday night great plan - these eyes can see what they was doing.

Woodrow - what does he actually bring ???? ok record at Barnsley Yeah after that absolute failure - must be cheap but look what was available yesterday if your going to sign a player like that why didn't we get Rhodes back in bench warming - also coach for Leonard and Gueye best of 2 worlds surely and probably get you more goals and get fans on seats to see him again ???

Dennis the menace - Well yeah he as been a good player at some time yet gone well off the boil upset a lot at forest after hs massive 15m move - upset a few at watford aswell not had the greatest of records out on loan neither  - its another project the lad hasnt played a game for 9months so its going to take him so time to get upto speed with the game ect

I was told at the beginning of January we had the chance of signing Danns early in the window yet we failed once again the board clowns waffling around again.

Then i look at some players what was available ready to go and match fit ready then think to my self what is actualy going on with the scouting and boardroom ???

All these players was available to go out on loan

Connor Chaplin match fit proven

Oriely at man city young cb great player watched him academy level on bench for 1st team

Adam armstrong  we ll know he is match fit and what he does  on same wage as dennis

Ali Hamadi scored plenty in lower leagues also seen he scored now in championship

To much ambition ???

I just see this window as filling gaps cause we have some 17 year old lads on bench and these sort of players was the cheapest wages out there what we have brought in.

I want a full statement from the club as to what direction we are going - a full plan on scouting system - and the major lack of once again funds available to reinvest into the playing squad.

I' support the lads but it still stands

We need a new board

Whether we think it was a good window or not (not) it's beyond doubt that these bodies came in too late.

After the pompey win we had 4 winnable games that we could barely stitch a team together for. We should have been getting 9 points minimum instead we got 3. Those 6 points could be all the difference come the end of the season regardless of whether we had a good deadline day or not.

These are questions that the management need to answer (not that they'd give an honest reply)

Assuming the club has done forward planning (ha!) and these players were identified as targets before the window opened, because they were cheap and surplus to requirements at their clubs, why weren't they signed at the start of the window?

Or were they in fact desperation signings as the club fished around for any player at the bottom of the barrel who was still available and not wanted by anyone else on the very last day?

Really good point, well made.

I agree with you. But Venkys have NEVER come out and explained their plan or strategy and there is no way at all that a full and open statement will be issued by the club about these things.  Any statement will be as empty and meaningless as those that have come before.

Sadly, as a club, we are drifting through a process of dismantlement, with the levels of relative success we are currently 'enjoying' being down to a very good manager and a group of limited, but hardworking, players. The only way this changes is by somehow getting promoted or by Venkys selling. I don't think either is imminent.

The one thing that that the signings have delivered on is pace, experience and players who, albeit not currently, know where the back of the net is.

I feel that Eustace will be pretty content with what he has to work with. However, let’s hope that Tronstad gets back quicker than expected as it will tighten up our defensive situation, which is badly needed.
btw contrary to most people’s view on here, I think Woodrow playing as a no. 10 could be a master stroke. He was brilliant at Barnsley playing there and like many players who fare poorly when played in a football style not suited to their game, he could shine again playing under Eustace.

That's 3 things.... but I agree with your overall point!!

Tbf I didn’t like how we played when we had Armstrong , was all set up for him to be the only one shooting, I remember one game in particular he had about a million shots and all way off target

I remember that game well, but can't remember who it was against!

I'd just about say our window was passable in the end with the addition of Dennis yesterday. And we added some pace to the team with Kargbo, LB cover, and additional championship experience in Woodrow. I guess that ticks all the boxes of what we needed at the beginning of the window.

Look around at our competitors for the play off and they've blown us out water again. In fact, pretty much every club spent more than us. We just can't compete financially in this league under these owners.

The positive news is that something has to give at some point. Venkys don't want to put anymore money in and we have no assets left to sell. There's only so long the Wharton and Sammie money can keep the club going.

Pretty much all of our signings are oldies on short contracts and loan deals. We also don't seem to be handing out new contracts either.

And that goes back to Venkys not spending money on transfer fees. It’s always last minute with loans cos they are someone else’s cast offs.

I think the answer is:

If the forecast doesn’t anticipate a breach of P&S then events such as your example are of no relevance (in regard to P&S) as all it means is the club will stay within the limits  by an even wider margin.

If the forecast shows there is a risk of a breach then the following applies (with the club possibly having to sell a player by 30/6 to keep within the P&S limits):

IMG_2088.jpeg.bd115fccf71e2dcc11993ec5ed03434b.jpeg

I hope that all makes sense, and I’m sorry if I’ve bored anyone with this 😁

I would have sent this to  @Herbie6590 by DM but that facility still seems to be broken.

edited to add:

I believe there are two types of ‘punishment’

Those due to a potential breach (based on the projected accounts plus the previous two years final accounts)

Those due to an actual breach (based on the finalised accounts (EFL submission deadline 31/12) + the previous two years final accounts)

This would explain (and I know my example is PL) why:

* Man U have just announced they’re at risk of breaching the limits    for 24/25 but…

* The PL have only recently announced no one breached the rules for 23/24.

Fabulous work…thank you & the DM issue is on our snagging list post the weekend’s exciting unplanned upgrade…😁

He was great for the fact he scored goals in abundance but often that took away from the team, he never made the easy pass. Was selfish at times.

  • Backroom

This window is reliant on Kargbo and Dennis people Lacey and mobile enough to take advantage of balls from Cantwell or knock-downs from Gueye AND start putting them away.

It’s doable, but I fear 6 lost points in January (compared to my expectations) due to the lateness of these deals and an injury pile-up might just see us miss out.

It’s now up to Eustace to drive us up. When the engine room has Travis and Tronstad in it, we look as fighting fit as any side in the division.

IMO, a crock of shite.

Where or where is the addition, let alone additions, who is going to make a difference?  Sure as hell, Armstrong will at WBA.

Dennis who many are purring over hasn't played for an age and is probably 4 to 6 weeks off peak fitness - even then, will he really make a difference?

Kargbo who has hardly been ripping it up in Serie C and rated so highly we give him a 2.5 year deal!  It's a nonsense.

The rest are the unwanted, snatched from the scrap heap.

We will fall well short.

Good luck to those soon to post 'let's see how they perform first' - get a sense of reality and stop living on feckin fantasy island.

Just pure assumptions…you probably said the same about Gueye, Ohashi, Beck and Baker in the summer. Yet the team is 5th in the league, so honestly it’s just hot air!

What all of your babbling on never takes into account is that the sun of the parts is greater than the whole. Absolutely, we’d like premium players who have documented previous successes. But we’re not in that market, and in any case there’s no guarantees.

For me - the squad that is currently 5th in the league with 16 games to go is stronger. How much stronger, we will only know in a few weeks when these players begin to perform.

Anyone can lean on the negative narrative and find faults. I’m ready to leave all the excuses to one side and watch these lads push on.

What if they’re all shit, you ask?

Me - “And what if they’re all fuckin amazing?”

Not a bad window for me

I am not here for the doom & gloom of "oh he's crap, he's crap, yep he's crap too" - I have heard it all before, with practically every signing we make these days

Unfortunately, we haven't a pot to piss in. The recruitment team gets a fair bit of stick on here but I can never understand why. Of the past 4 seasons we have spent 3 of them operating in & around the top 10 places. Yet our budget sits comfortably within the bottom 10 - maybe even bottom 6?

I think the recruitment team has done an excellent job with the resource we have. Coupled with the issues around budget, we also have a senior team who just aren't pulling their weight - whether that's with accidents with paperwork or drive & ambition

Despite all of this, we once again find ourselves post-Christmas in the play off hunt. The additions of Dennis, Kargbo and Woodrow are extra competition up top whilst we have addressed some imbalance at the back. Ok, we may have downgraded Baker with Forshaw but that was largely out of our hands. It was a must to get somebody in quickly & cheaply.

I think we will see Kargbo tonight, with maybe Denis and Woodrow waiting until the cup game at the weekend
